For some reason the vegan options and vegetable pasty gives me heartburn. Been vegetarian a year so stick with the cheese and onion bakes or pizza. I miss the steak bakes 😋
@@ba55bar because it still tastes good cold, I love a steak bake, the texture of it cold is what I imagine dog meat to be like in your mouth, it kind of turns into a jelly.
You must try Greggs Cheese and Onion pasty. The Chicken bake is also one of my favourites as I just love the delicious creamy sauce inside. I totally agree with you guys about the Sausage roll and the pizza 🍕 very very tasty 😋 take care Dave
A Geordie and a Mackem are in Greggs, the Mackem puts two steak bakes in his pockets on the rob, the Geordie saw this and says to the lady behind the counter, " pass me two steak bakes pet, and I'll show you some magic ", the girl hands over the steak bakes and The Geordie proceeds to scoff them at full speed. When he'd finished, the lady behind the counter said " howay!, thats not magic ", the Geordie says, " check the Makems pockets! ". Much love from the UK X
You were spot on with the Pizza - they are EXACTLY like school pizzas! Yep sausage rolls and steak bakes are what most people like. If you see them, try the bacon and cheese turnovers which are very nice. Love your videos and think you’re both great so thank you 👍
The pizzas are crap because they aren't cooked fresh. Any place that sells pizza slices like this where they are left in a hot cabinet for too long, end up with a soggy base. It just doesn't work! School pizzas taste the same for exactly the same reason.
Next time try a sausage and bean melt, a steak bake and a chicken bake. If you were to visit the UK during the holidays you should definitely try a festive bake. They’re brilliant and you just have to have one at Christmas! 😃

The corned beef bake used to be quite good, but over the past few years they seem to have cut back on the amount of corned beef and onion that was originally in it.
Just to note, and I know I'm a year late with this, but Corned Beef Hash in the UK is basically mashed up Corned Beef mixed in Mash Potato. That's probably why the texture threw you guys off a bit.
I've eaten in restaurants all over the world and still maintain that given the choice my last meal would be a Greggs sausage, bean and cheese pastie with a Fentimans Dandelion and Burdock. You should try the Fentimans brands of soft drinks. They're quite posh and a little bit more pricey but are awesome. Their Cola and Lemonades are sold in most supermarkets. Great to see you both immersing yourself in our gourmet cuisine! 😆
I love the steak bakes, chicken bakes and at Christmas they do a lovely steak and Stilton cheese roll (like the sausage roll) which is the nicest tasting treat! 😋 Hope you are both enjoying your time here 💖

The vegan sausage rolls are gorgeous, little less greasy than the meat version. I actually preferred the vegan steak bake to the regular too. Hope they bring it back again in the future.
I recommend the "Apple Danish" from Greggs. Greggs is where everybody from office workers and building workers, to school children and shoppers go for a good value midday meal. I also avoid their corned beef bakes, as they give me heartburn. There is massive competition on the High Street for the midday meal trade. Since their are hardly and works canteens left now, and few people make packed lunches any more. My grandparents generation, seem to have been the last ones to think that eating in the street was a terrible thing to do. So just about every supermarket and gas station are doing sandwich based "Meal Deals" now. So Greggs have mainly switched from sandwiches to baguettes and wraps instead.
I’m from the UK and lived in California for the past 14 years. When I do go back first thing I get is the steak bake. Other items I crave are kebab and chips, pork sandwiches, carvery dinners, fish and chips (orange chips), Indian food, and pubs lol

My wife loves the Jammy Heart Biscuits, my daughter loves the sausage rolls. As for doughnuts, my favourite is to find a little fresh doughnut stall/shop that makes them to order. Fresh cooked with a little sugar is awesome. Also, I'd suggest trying a decent all butter or clotted cream Shortbread (not Shortcake, that's different). This is not actually bread, but a kind of biscuit. Two varieties I'd suggest is plain with sugar and what's called "Millionaire's Shortbread", which is shortbread topped with caramel and chocolate.
Love the channel for both of you! A late comment but just incase you were unaware I thought I would advise on the following: In case you wondered the reason why food isn't always hot at Greggs is the fact that they don't call themselves a hot bakery because with hot food they would have to charge tax on it. Therefore if you want your items to be hot such as the sausage rolls / bakes the best time is probably lunchtime or a busy time when demand is there so they'll be heating a fresh batch of bakes etc regularly.
you guys have to tray a traditional greasy spoon cafe........get a propper fry for breakfast and a pot of tea, ask a balck cab driver or the reception at the hotel, ask for a traditional greasy spoon cafe for a proper breakfast fry......you won't be disappointed.
I think with a lot of these videos it’s important to remember this is basically fast food. It’s never going to be amazing but for the price it’s incredible
Great video! As a meat-eater, the Vegan sausage roll from Greggs is pretty good. Other options you have to try when you next visit: Steak Bake and the Yum Yums are incredible. At Christmas they have a limited item called a festive bake which is also delicious - chicken breast pieces, sage and onion stuffing, bacon and a creamy sage and cranberry sauce. Superb in the cold weather!
In the early days of Greggs opening up the first store in Newcastle Upon Tyne, the food was ok, the sausage rolls, pies and pasties were full and crammed to the crust. Now, things are very different even down to the pastry, which seems to be very rich and buttery. The only thing I buy from there now, is ‘grab food’ in the way of a tuna crunch baguette and a toffee custard donut or a peach melba. And even the peach melba is a little short on peaches compared to years ago.
Choice from Greggs would be a Stottie cake. You can tell you're in the North of England when you see Greggs selling Stotties :-) somewhere around an east west line running through Doncaster. A stottie is a flat bread and if you are a tourist looking to make a sandwich to carry with you you so can't go wrong. Bacon/sausage or ham/pease pudding is well worth a go. Also bear in mind if you can't find something someone suggests, it might be because it's a regional item only sold in certain areas. Like the Stotties. They went from a bike delivery to one shop, Greggs of Gosforth to a national chain. Side fact, The Greggs on Northumberland street in Newcastle is the only shop that I know of that reverses the letters in it's name at Christmas :-) SGGERG. They do it because over the road is a dept store called Fenwicks which has a Christmas window display and when people take pictures, the name Greggs name appears the right way round in the window reflection:-)
Greggs, like you know, is a chain so their items are mass produced, the store heats them up. The sausage rolls and other food you tried in Camden, Borough Market etc are artisan products made in smaller sites or on the premises where you ate.
You got pizza at school? Wow. Lucky you. Surprised you didn't try the famous Greggs vegan sausage roll. Traditional sausage rolls were more like the Greggs ones just filled with sausage meat. But in recent years they've become much bigger and fancier with other added meats and ingredients like the ones you had in Cornwall. You're right about Starbucks coffee. It's like dishwater. You should try a coffee at Caffe Nero coffee chain next. I think it's the best. McDonalds coffee is supposedly pretty good also for the price which is only £1 I believe. You'll have to let us know if you agree.
Cool vid , Gregg's are amazing....I'd pretty much live on just the sausage rolls happily lol....... just subscribed looking forward to more of your vids 👍
The best pasty from Greggs is the sausage cheese and bean melt. Best sandwich is the mexican chicken baguette. Also, the peach melba tart and strawberry tart are amazing. And the vanilla slices.
Try a breakfast baguette with a latte. I love the sausage bean and cheese melt, but I am in my 40s, lived in the UK all my life and tried the chicken bake for the first time last week! Its now my favourite!
I love Burns the Bread! 🥖🍞💖 Always pop in there whenever I'm in Street, which used be a lot when I used to work in the area. I think there's one in Castle Cary too. They also have a Baking School in Glastonbury, where they do day courses in different aspects of Baking. Yum! 😋
krispy kreme donuts are just an overload of sugar, what I love about greggs is they're more balanced you get that sugar hit from the jam and icing but you don't feel sickly afterwards.
Our version of corned beef is very different to the US version. I found this out ordering a corned beef sandwich in the US. Yours is chunky pieces where as the UK version is made as a sort of sliced processed meat.
They do have our tinned corned beef too. My Texan girlfriend has used it when making my recipe for corned beef hash, which she and her family love now.
I’m sure others have suggested them but I’d recommend the Sausage & Bean Melt, the Cheese & Onion pasty and the Beef & Vegetable pasty (which used to be called a Cornish pasty until they had to rename it as it’s made in Newcastle). If they are still doing the sweet mince pies all year round, I’d recommend them too (they did them all year when I worked there but that was a long time ago so they may have changed).
I'm from Texas but was born & raised in England. Back then, Gregs used to be called Thurstons. I remember it well. Their cornish pasties and sausage rolls were my favorite.
I admittedly probably eat way too much from Greggs (it’s across the road from where I work) but if you visit one often you begin to know when the best time to go is. I find a lot of their items taste so much better when fresh out of the oven, if they’ve been sat there a while they just don’t hit the same. The chicken bake is a amazing when it’s hot, not so much when it’s cold. The cheese and onion bake is a must try, as well as the vegan sausage roll and steak bake.
I've never actually seen corned beef bakes in Greggs and I was in there today. Maybe it varies by what part of the country. Really want one of those doughnuts now. :)
as a greggs worker, yes, they are a regional item, mostly wales and the southwest stores sell them, there are many regional items, the north and scotland have quite a lot of different menu items compared to wales and the south
Yeah, lots of regional items. In the north east Greggs sell stotties and stottie sandwiches. Very disappointed when I moved down south and found they're not sold here.
Randomly clicked on this video and was surprised to see my home town! Hope you enjoyed Wells! But yeah the context of greggs is just that is super cheap and everywhere so you won’t get the best stuff ever but it’s reliable and sates a craving.
My favourite Gregg's items are: 1 Steak Bake 2 Corned beef bake (the one you just did not like, the first item you tried) 3 Their Christmas sandwiches at Christmad I cannot wait for them each year.
‘They’ said that “we all recommended that they try Gregg’s….” - not me! But I’m thinking that they were getting a taste of our brutal and sarcastic sense of humour 😉 thinking it would be funny to watch them taste testing factory produced fodder in the hope they thought they would be eating proper “home made” bakery goods… funny but not funny - we are soooo cruel! (🤣) (trying hard not to laugh)…
I'm sure this has been commented before, but: 1. Greggs is fast food, so don't go looking for gormet quality. 2. American corned beef is what we'd call salt beef. UK corned beef is a preserved minced beef (also salted) that usually comes in cans (much like spam does).
When you visit York you should visit Cooplands or Thomas the Baker, they are kind of like Gregg's but they are more local chains and the quality is MUCH Better!
Sausage and bean melt, chicken bake and sausage rolls can’t go wrong. Yum yums are fantastic from Greggs! The perfect not too sweet treat. Pizza yes they do look like from school! That crispy French bread crunch can’t beat it. Their breakfast sausage or bacon , even both on a bread roll or baguette with ketchup/ brown sauce yum they are to die for!
I think you worked Greggs out. It's not the best food, in fact far from it- but it's cheap and they are ubiquitous- you can find a Greggs anywhere and for grabbing a quick breakfast or lunch for very little expenditure they are extremely handy.
A recommendation is a vanilla or cream slice with its flaky puff pastry and custard filling. Elephants feet is another delight its choux pastry filled with fresh cream and dipped in Melted milk chocolate, this choux pastry can also be used for Chocolate eclairs and pofiteroles.
I'm totally baffled at what people see in Greggs? Virtually every high street baker has better warm savouries and a good local bakery will always trump Gregg's ' mass produced rubbish.
Agreed. We had a wonderful family-run bakery which made a wider range of vastly superior products, but it went to the wall after a branch of Greggs opened in our town.
@@paulelroy6650 I'm not convinced with that? Our local bakery is the same price and very good....Greggs came to my town quite recently and are not doing brilliant... Seems to be youngster's who have bought the marketing?
Steak Bake every time. Where I live, we call the Sausage Rolls ‘kiddies dummies’ - you would say ‘kiddies soothers’ because you see a lot of toddlers in buggies (strollers) with a Gregg’s Sausage Roll in their hands. They are given to the child to shut them up from mithering their mother and keep them happy. They probably also have a cookie, gingerbread man or cupcake for after, to keep them content for a lot longer.
I rarely buy Greggs baked goods because they are so fattening! But their bacon rolls and lunch baguettes are amazing, especially the chilli chicken with Jalapeno baguettes. The coffee is good too, it scratches your Costa itch without making you need to wee all the time. They are perfect for when you're on the road and slip in to the services.
Mmmmm beef paste.... I super appreciate this very honest review of Greggs! x) My favourite was probably the Christmas turkey/cranberry special! Hope it comes back for December 2022 ;__;
Oh you guys need to look up ladbaby on youtube. Those guys have had four consecutive Christmas number ones in a row singing about sausage rolls. They donated every penny to charity. They are youtubers and are hilarious.
I just found your channel. And was just thinking wow that really looks like my local greggs. Then you showed wells high street lol. I live in wells. 5 minutes from the town. What a small world
If you're staying in Wells, you must visit the next town along, Glastonbury ( where the famous music Festival is next week) and climb the tor. It will blow your minds.
Steak bake, sausage rolls (meat or vegetarian) and coffee are the only items I buy from Greggs... Not that the rest is bad, I just get stuck in a groove when I find something I like! Really enjoying seeing you in Britain!!

Steak bake & vanilla slice and the ginger bread men are nice too
In the early days of Greggs opening up the first store in Newcastle Upon Tyne, the food was ok, the sausage rolls, pies and pasties were full and crammed to the crust.
Also it depends if they are warm to how they taste, love cheese and onion bake when hot but soon as its cold its a no go 😂
Definitely this.
the best thing at greggs in my opinion is the caramel custard donut 😍 id never go for any other donut except the yum yums omg those are great too
It's so incredible there..love all the buildings... nice looks good..I'll take the box of donuts! ✌
Thank you Kreeper!😋
Should have done the Steak bakes and Chicken bakes! They are awesome!
Glad you're enjoying your stay with us 😘
Greg's sell 2.5 million sausage rolls a week and 1 million coffees. I love their Belgium buns.
Enjoying your videos
Thank you!
But how many people have heart attacks by eating them on a daily basis? It is basically fat disguised as food.
Ooooh I love Greggs steak bakes and yum yums, and their sausages rolls are also fab! You guys are great ❤
You should've tried Burns the bread in Wells. It's like Greggs but they only have a few stores in and around Glastonbury/Wells. It's amazing 😍
I love Burns the Bread! 🥖🍞💖 Always pop in there whenever I'm in Street, which used be a lot when I used to work in the area. I think there's one in Castle Cary too. They also have a Baking School in Glastonbury, where they do day courses in different aspects of Baking. Yum! 😋
Greggs sausage rolls are fantastic! Great value, great pastry, ideal for a light lunch.
I love their sausage, cheese and bean melts (especially warm) and like their chicken cardboard box things too
krispy kreme donuts are just an overload of sugar, what I love about greggs is they're more balanced you get that sugar hit from the jam and icing but you don't feel sickly afterwards.
Spot on
Sickly feelings from eating sugar is never a good thing !! I hate that !! 👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🇬🇧💞
@@lesleyfarrington4809 Good to know !! 👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶🇬🇧💞
Our version of corned beef is very different to the US version.
I found this out ordering a corned beef sandwich in the US.
Yours is chunky pieces where as the UK version is made as a sort of sliced processed meat.
Just came here to say the same thing! 😃
What made you move to Texas?
er no it wasn't...
Iceland sell greggs items,I eat vegan steak bakes and they are lovely.
Get them in Workington, Cumbria.
bad reviews online they should stop selling them
Randomly clicked on this video and was surprised to see my home town! Hope you enjoyed Wells! But yeah the context of greggs is just that is super cheap and everywhere so you won’t get the best stuff ever but it’s reliable and sates a craving.
Oh the cheese and onion pasty, and the sausage, bean & cheese pasty is also good. You gotta try the signature steak bake as well
I really like your travel blog, it's down to earth (not pretentious) and has interesting content. Travel safe and take care.
You guys missed out on the steak bake and the cheese and bacon turnovers
Totally forgot about their cheese & bacon turnover! That’s my second option if they are out of steak bakes.
We need to try those next
My favourite Gregg's items are:
1 Steak Bake
2 Corned beef bake (the one you just did not like, the first item you tried)
3 Their Christmas sandwiches at Christmad I cannot wait for them each year.
Which cruel bastards recommended greggs!?
😂😂😂
Yes, once you have experienced a real Cornish Pasty & other baked goodies from an in store bakery. I did try Greggs, my dog liked it though.
A lot of people. 😂😂😂
@@TheMagicGeekdom After eating all those gourmet pasties my heart sank seeing the title of this video.
I'm sure this has been commented before, but:
1. Greggs is fast food, so don't go looking for gormet quality.
2. American corned beef is what we'd call salt beef. UK corned beef is a preserved minced beef (also salted) that usually comes in cans (much like spam does).
Greggs has changed a lot in the last 20 years. I was a shop manager there for over 5 years until I left in 2002.
When you visit York you should visit Cooplands or Thomas the Baker, they are kind of like Gregg's but they are more local chains and the quality is MUCH Better!
That sounds good!
Favourite item- Sausage rolls, Dteak bake, Yum yum- and at Christmas time a festive bake.
The garlic dip is a GAME CHANGER. Get it with a bake of your choice
The vegan sausage roll is sooo good, they do a vegan cheese and bean melt too which is nice 😊
I had a vegan saus roll tasted like cardboard.
A recommendation is a vanilla or cream slice with its flaky puff pastry and custard filling. Elephants feet is another delight its choux pastry filled with fresh cream and dipped in Melted milk chocolate, this choux pastry can also be used for Chocolate eclairs and pofiteroles.
I'm a baker so I suppose it's a bit of professional pride at work but I bloody hate Gregg's
You don't have to be a Baker to understand what an abomination Greggs is
Nobody's forcing you. Just means there's more for me and friends.
Can you cook & sell your items for the same price as Greggs?
Grouts is better to be fair
Vegan sausage roll and Totteham cake cheese vegetable pasty . Plain glazed donuts 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️ loved the vid
I'm totally baffled at what people see in Greggs? Virtually every high street baker has better warm savouries and a good local bakery will always trump Gregg's ' mass produced rubbish.
Agreed. We had a wonderful family-run bakery which made a wider range of vastly superior products, but it went to the wall after a branch of Greggs opened in our town.
high street bakeries couldn't compete with supermarket bakeries. Greggs hasn't been a proper bakery since 2013-2015, bread etc.
They are nice and cheap. I dont think anyone I'm the uk will say theyvare the best bakers
Gotta love a warm sausage roll, hope you too are having a good time and the weather not depressing you too much lol
my favourite from greggs is a cheese and onion bake😩 I'm drooling😩😩
I rarely buy Greggs baked goods because they are so fattening! But their bacon rolls and lunch baguettes are amazing, especially the chilli chicken with Jalapeno baguettes. The coffee is good too, it scratches your Costa itch without making you need to wee all the time. They are perfect for when you're on the road and slip in to the services.
Must try Gregg's at Christmas time, their Festive Bake is mind blowing
Yum Yums
The cheese and bacon slice
Just wanted to shout out the city of Wells. I Lived there for many years, and love it.
The sausage and bean bake, tuna crunch baguette and their yum yums are my favourite 😍😍
Mmmmm beef paste.... I super appreciate this very honest review of Greggs! x) My favourite was probably the Christmas turkey/cranberry special! Hope it comes back for December 2022 ;__;
The thing I love about greggs is the regional side. There’s some items you can only find in certain places
Greggs is incredible value for the great taste.
