I loved shadow of the Erdtree but it just doesn’t top the old hunters for me. I get that might be unpopular but old hunters just felt so much more polished and memorable with some of my favorite bosses and areas. I get it’s a bit of an unfair comparison with how massive SOTE is compared to old hunters but when looking at quality over quantity I think old hunters has it beat.

I have noticed that the more times I play the ringed city the less I like the Ringed City area. The Ringed City area just screams wasted potential to me. We could have gotten a massive beautiful city to explore, but instaed we get a overly linear level that is largely taken up by another pointless swamp area, which is like the 5th Swamp in DS3 alone. The enemy placement is also mostly pretty questionable and many of the enemies aside from the Ringed Knights are mostly meh or really bad

    • @JoseViktor4099
      @JoseViktor4099 4 дня назад +8

Ringed City is both DS3 at It best and at It worst Imo. DS3 level design can be very uninteresting with lots of Big almost empty areas with enemies scattered around, Elden Ring Central Liurnia like Imo, which I feel is very contraproducent for how linear and overall straightfoward the Game is.
And I think that Ringed City wasn't excent of that.

    • @someweeb8145
      @someweeb8145 3 дня назад

Yeah, I just got done playing through the DLC myself and the Ringed City area feels like a chore. The initial bowmen sequence is cool but the run from the 2nd bonfire to the 3rd is ridiculous. It introduces two new enemy types (chanting priests and Ringed City knights), has two separate scripted invasions, has some of the worst enemy spam in the entire game and there's nothing interesting going on with the level design. It's a shame because Midir, Gael and the Twin Demons are some of the best boss fights in the entire game but the areas themselves are just not fun to play through.

  • @KindredFenrir

    I'll do mine
8 Ashes of Ariandel (one good fight can't save everything else being bad)
7 Mid Hunters (2 good fights can't save the rest from being bad)
6 Sunken King (it's fine but kinda like Old Hunters the last 2 fights can't save the base area but at least it's aesthetic is cooler
5 Artorias (it's age is showing and while I like Manus, Artorias, and Kalameet there is a few things that hold it back)
4 Ringed City (The Ringed City itself is great and awesome bosses but the first half with the angels is always a very slow boring section)
3 Iron King (peak vertical design in gaming. Great bosses, Great aesthetic and a good amount of content to boot)
2 Ivory King (I love this area so much despite Frigid Outskirts being whatever. [It's not that bad] the bosses the design of replaying a level but everything changed. It's like ng+ without going into ng+. It's peak Dark Souls 2)

Before SotE dropped, The Old Hunters was my absolute favorite of them all. What you said about The Ringed City is probably one of my biggest complaints, despite it having some of my most favorite bosses in the trilogy. The city itself feels like wasted potential after initially seeing the entire city from above during that cutscene after beating Demon Prince.
SotE has my favorite boss roster when it comes to its heavy hitters, and even some side bosses, which is really nice. The armosphere is great, and I adore the art direction, but I definitely agree that it did feel very isolated from the rest of the game, though. The gameplay keeps me coming back, however. I think the best aspect of the Old Hunters is that it legitimately fixes every single problem with the base game of Bloodborne. The weapon roster is expanded so that you aren't restricted to such a limiting pool of options, farming for blood vials becomes incredibly quick and efficient (the boss runback to Ludwig basically gives you five of them for free, and you can kill the two octopus monstrosities nearby for another eleven or twelve, if I remember correctly), the bosses are all top-tier (Living Failures isn't, but I still enjoy slapping the shit out of them, so they're at least fun, and not frustrating), the areas, while linear, are all quite complex and frankly, pretty ambitious too (Research Hall's vertical level design is only matched by Shadow Keep, in my opinion)...it's just consistently a 10/10.
On a side note, while it doesn't "fix" any issues that the base game might have had, the Old Hunters also has the best atmosphere in Bloodborne for me. Like, Bloodborne as a whole is eerie and almost horror-like, but if you're just playing casually, it's hard to really get scared or worried by what you see. Shocked? Sure. Plenty of "what the fuck was that" moments in Bloodborne. But the Old Hunters is geniunely disturbing. The area in the Research Hall with all the mad patients strapped to their bloodsoaked beds, twisted, broken and deformed, while still crying out for their Lady is the one time Bloodborne actually felt like a horror game to me. It's the one time I couldn't crack a joke or smile. Some other areas attempt to have similar kind of disturbing enemy, like the Forbidden Woods, Byrgenworth or the Nightmare of Mergo, but I just couldn't take them seriously: comically large snake balls, flies that look like Halloween costumes, and even the Winter Lanterns, while creepy, are frankly a bit too annoying for me to actually fear them. But yeah, the Old Hunters is just unmatched when it comes to the horror element of Bloodborne.

I just wanna point out something i noticed on my last run of Dark Souls 2. Frigid outskirts isnt hard at all compared to other run backs especially the one to blue smelter. All you need to do is take all the summons, run to first building you see, wait for storm to end then run to next one and so on, on the way to each you will encounter 1 raindeer and whenever you hear it coming you just hide behind NPCs and youre good. On best runs i only had 2 reindeers. It is very boring and time consuming but i don't think it is hard.

The ideal DLC really would be something in between SOTE and OTH. I very much appreciate how the Shadowrealm was constructed as like one giant dungeon layered with a bunch of smaller dungeons with some SOTC vibes in between. It did that perfectly and the bosses are brutal and I love the Curseblades, Black Knights, Horned Warriors and Fire Knights. But I can imagine something that's like the size of Shadow Keep, Rauh Ruins, Enir Ilim and Belurat, but it's just as dense and traversable as the Hunter's Nightmare, Ashina Castle, and Leyndell. That would be the greatest DLC ever with FromSoftware signature combat.

In regards to the size of SotE: I am someone who can't afford too many games, and as someone working full time, I don't have as much time to play as I would like. So, for me, of the games I do play are big and keep me busy for a good while, the better for me. Given that traversal and navigation are done well (I like challenges and can be patient, but I don't wanna waste time searching things for hours) But I can understand if such huge games can scare off some people. It's not for everyone.

I kinda have to disagree with the first comment, Elden ring is great but it has some glaring issues such as boss fights not lining up with the game mechanics and a lot of asset reuse. The exploration and build variety hard carry the game. It has a few standout bosses (Rykard, Mogh, Placidusax, Messmer, Fire giant, etc) but most of them feel designed purely to be difficult without putting quality first which is a mistake IMO. The bosses feel way too gimmicky, in terms of having copious amounts of delayed attacks and annoying AOEs. Why are there so many AOEs with obscure dodge timings, that is just annoying. I still love the game but these flaws knock it down from taking the top souls title for me.

I feel like SOTE is in a league of its own, so much so that the best way to compare them is to use a price point comparison. Legitimately there is no way to compare them without this metric.
Therefore, my list would go something like this:
    1. Shadow of the Erdtree
Holy fuck this dlc was near perfect, but definitely not without flaws. I don't want more items in the open world like some others would, but more field bosses would greatly give more of a sense of this world feeling alive. The legacy dungeons are damn near perfect, belurat is really well done for how small it is. Midras manse would have been on the levels of DS1 level design if they just got rid of the two graces that aren't the main one. Enir ilim (how the fuck do you spell that) is a really interesting enemy gauntlet style of level, with some extremely impressive secrets (Euporia) and the less we talk about castle Ensis the better. Shadow Keep might be the best legacy dungeon in souls borne, its verticality and secrets are so much fun to explore. The boss quality is insanely high Rellana, Midra, Divine beast Dancing Lion, Scadu tree avatar, Putrescent knight, and Romina are all A tier fights. While, the S tier fights of Bayle, Messmer, PCR (current), and Midra are all in my running for best bosses in soulsborne. Its insane how high quality all these bosses were and how diverse they all felt. Now there were some really unfortunate bosses: Gaius doesn't have a OST for some reason, like genuinely why doesn't he get an OST, but some random flower gets one, and Meytr is really mediocre mechanically, but she still has a banger of a presentation, and a solid questline attached to it. Now I want to continue this by saying that SOTE is definitely the best value in terms of Bang for your buck due to all the side content, but this all doesn't really matter if the side content isn't what you like. Some argue that the map is too empty, and while I agree the fact that people are saying that throwing around random items in the map would fix that is absurd. There has never been a need to do that, we just needed some more field bosses to complete the world.
    2. Old Hunters
The old hunters is my 2nd favorite dlc that they have ever done, because as a dlc it is the bets one. It fixes everything that was problematic about the base game. Even though its bosses are still kind of meh. Comparatively the best ones are both Maria and Ludwig, but both are still limited by problems that are fundamental to bloodborne. Ludwig fucks with the blood cause the fps to dip frequently (not to dissimilar to miquellas orbital laser), but he is so fun mechanically its fine. I would also argue that Ludwigs charge is another example of bloodborne giving bosses charges with oversized hitboxes. Maria suffers from atrocious hit boxes in phase 2 and 3, along with her being a hunter fight which are common to having problems with stun locking. Orphan is great, but he suffers from a massive amount of having a really meh to bad phase 2. In phase 2 he gets mainly charging moves, which aren't that fun to deal with, and his projectiles are used way too often. Plus, the lightning, the worst move in bloodborne time to roll the dice of when hes going to do it in the water or on the shore, if it's in the water your fucked and if it's not have some free damage. OST is also kind of meh considering what led up to it with Maria, and Ludwig having arguably the top 2 ost's in soulsborne. Laurence is actually the worst boss in Bloodborne, imagine being the most important character in the lore, given a banger OST and then we get this reskinned fight with a sloppy phase 2. I'm pissed because if it was just the same model with some different move it would feel intentional, but because he is such a sloppy fight he feels lazy. Why is his phase 2 so unpolished, like actually. This isn't a boss that could be a throwaway as some random nobody, so it doesn't matter if it's that good, this is the guy who is responsible for it all. Living failures exist. Overall area's are phenomenal, but the bosses feel like a mixed bag, this DLC had the most potential to be something else, but it has some sloppy execution and some inexcusable boss decisions.
    3. The Ringed City
The best overall boss quality in a Dlc, but with one of the worst areas of any dlc. Instead of exploring this massive city that had the entirety of humanity in it we cling to a small part of it and go through a swamp. Midir is good, Gael is perfect, and Deamon prince is a really fun fight.
    4. Artorias of the Abyss
First great dlc for its price, out of the four fights 2 are really good (Artorias and Manus) with some phenomenal atmosphere involved in it. The areas are also very solid, but it could be better.
    5. Crown of the Ivory king
Ok, while we have 2 absolutely shit boss fights in this one, it might have the best fight in DS2. The best version of a boss with normal enemies and freeing the knights is super fun and a great way to encourage exploration. This one can be swapped 6 and I would not complain.
    6. Crown of the (I forgot the one with fume knight)
Really good area like holy shit this one is so much more interesting than the ones below, but the boss fights are a Reskin, Sir Alonne (a solid fight nothing that special), and Fume knight. Out of all these the Fume knight is a solid A tier fight because he has no run back and has a solid move set. Comparatively Sir alonne's run back is bottom three of all time.
    7. Crown of the sunken
Kind of disappointing with 2 mid boss fights, but the area is kind of good and much more interesting than usual with the dlc areas.
    8. Ashes of Mid
In terms of value this has to be the worst, you get two bosses, and one is a shit Gank fight. The area is kind of shit, like you run through a forest till you get to the church and hopefully you figure out where to go and all of this just to fight Friede. Friede herself is a pretty good fight. Out of her three phases the third one is the best followed by the second. However, the first phase is mid (you just stun lock the shit out of her) and by the time you reach the last phase your tired of it already.

Old hunters is definitely the best. I was hoping the final boss of shadow of the urdtree would be as awesome as orphan is both in gameplay and lore, but it’s just a mess on both accounts. Also there isn’t a single area as baron and dead as the frenzy forest is in any other dlc in this series. Even fridgid outskirts in ds2 has a couple items and enemy spawns in it even if it is more offensive. I’d honestly say if you take both ds3 dlcs together as one package they’re better than shadow of the urdtree too

Why dont ya try do a video on the best and worst boss in each catagories, i know a while ago ya ranked the dragon bosses, maybe a video could be best and work Knight bosses,Demon boss, female, beast type, magic, inscet etc either each its own video or put all in one video and just do no.1 best/wosrt of each

    4: Ivory King
    3: Ringed City

My personal rankings of the Souls DLC's is this:
    #1. Bloodborne Old Hunters
    #2. DS3 The Ringed City
#3. ER Shadow of the Erdtree
#4. DS2 Crown of the Burnt Ivory King
    #5. DS3 Ashes of Ariandel
#6. DS2 Crown of the Old Iron King
#7. DS1 Artorias of the Abyss
#8. DS2 Crown of the Sunken King
While Shadow of the Erdtree is really good it's lore and overall narrative isn't as compelling to me as much as The Ringed City nor Old Hunters. I also personally like the maps of The Ringed City and The Hunters Nightmare more than The Land of Shadows. Shadow of the Erdtree does have a lot of really good content though and because it's more Elden Ring it can't be any lower than #3 for me.
I also really love Ashes of Ariandel and Ivory King DLC's because I just generally love snowy maps. The story and visuals in Ariandel were so cool to me, but Ivory King DLC was so much fun to explore and just play through. DS1 DLC is just too small, but does have really good content. Sunken King while fun is just my least favorite DLC and I share opinions with Billy as to why that is. Then lastly Iron King is where it is because while I like its bosses and maps I just don't vibe with it as much as I do the ones I placed above it. They're all really good tho.

Old Hunters is Bloodborne, but much much MUCH better!!
Shadow of the Erdtree is not Elden Ring but better, it's just as good in a lot of parts, a bit better in others and worse on some others. That's where it lacked the most imo, the impact of "holy shit this is another level" that all the other dlcs had, it did that in difficulty, but thats not it. Dancing Lion and Rellana and Shadow Keep I'd argue are the ones who delivered it the most, but still too little for its size....

Without SOTE ER is still a good game. However without Old Hunters BB is just an average game with average bosses, OH made BB while SOTE is just a good expansion for ER.

@@AndrewAung1992 Elden ring is great but overrated, amazing exploration but annoying gimmicky bosses. The overly delayed attacks and reliance on AOEs and artificial difficulty doesn’t just ruin the balance, it also just makes the bosses kinda unfun to fight. Of course it still has some amazing bosses, I still love fights like Messmer, Mogh and Rykard, but most of the bosses feel like Bloodborne bosses dumped in a souls game. It just makes bosses feel annoying and sucks all the fun out of fighting them. They may have bigger movesets but most of the movesets feel like they didn’t actually think much when designing individual moves. I’m not a huge Bloodborne stan, I think it’s also pretty overrated, but it definitely has better bosses. SOTE was great but with some bosses, like PCR, it felt like they made them difficult for the sake of being difficult rather than making a quality boss. PCR isn’t just bad for being an imbalanced mess of a boss, even after the patch his phase 2 is still super annoying btw, he’s also just boring and bland. He is flashy but his moveset is basic and not in a good way. He just feels rushed and slapped together to give the DLC a finale. Also bosses like Commander Gaius and Romina had some of the worst hitboxes I’ve ever seen in these game, and that includes DS2. As much as I’m not a Bloodborne stan, I get why he put it where he did. It isn’t my favourite but it’s one of the best DLCs and has both great quality areas and bosses, while SOTE only has the areas, some of which are actually kinda bad like Enir Illim and castle Ensis, and a few pretty good bosses like Messmer and Bayle. I don’t think it’s rage bait to put it high, it’s clearly his favourite dlc so maybe calm down your own clear biases. And don’t even try commenting the whole ‘I’m not reading that much’ nonsense. If you’re not gonna read my argument then I’ve made my point. I’m trying to be neutral here but I’m honestly so fed up of the ER stans saying that the game is perfect, no game is perfect. ER has pretty major flaws, and I do still love it but wouldn’t put it as my top souls game (nor would I put Bloodborne btw). The bosses are just too reliant on delayed attacks and AOEs and it is not fun, even most of the DLC bosses rely on them. Anyway, just a general criticism of that argument. Have a nice day :)

Each one has a horrible area that we all agree to kind of overlook now. And if Fume Knight was in any other game he wouldn’t be so highly praised.
For me Old Hunters would be at the top, followed by Ringed City, and Artorias in the top 3.
