    Just after 10-pm in NZ Mike , this is a lovely wind-down before bed . Even my modern W650 was transformed by a good going-over . Cable-lube made a huge-difference and i 'future-proofed' the underside of the chrome-mudguards along-with other hard-to-get-to places . A large-robust shoe-lace is excellent for polishing spokes and upper fork-stanchions etc while a stainless wire-brush (must be stainless) works wonders on alloy fins and rougher-castings . Silvo is a great 'final' polish on shiney-alloy bits . I find $2-shop nail-polish (colour-matched of-course ) is excellent for minor stone-chips etc. White-vinegar is equal to your tank-cleaner and very-cheap , I slosh a generous-amount of diesel , covering the inside (reduces 'flash-rust' ) until I'm ready to re-fit and fill with gas (real petrol over 'Blend' if possible ) . I always learn-something by watching your vids , every-bit helps to keep great-bikes alive Dave

    The tennis balls on the end of the levers is smart... you could lose an eye on those if you're not careful. Or just hit your head. I don't have a lift in my garage, so they usually get me as I'm standing up from a crouched position.
    It's always nice when the reason something isn't working turns out to be an obvious and easy fix...like a broken tach cable.

      @TheMightyGarage  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks Dave, yes, I have had a couple of stabbed heads in the past! Thanks a lot for your note. Yes, I took the other end of the tachometer cable off and it’s definitely missing the inner cable. Best wishes, Mike

    @mitchburk5112 5 месяцев назад +1

    You can check the tach with an electic drill and a bit of cable. Be sure and turn it anti-clockwise.

    How about using Aerotight Nuts to fit the Carburettor to the Barrel ?

    Give those stubborn screws a sharp tap on the end of a screwdriver with a metal cap on the end will you Michael?. It helps to break the oxidisation on the threads.

    • @TheMightyGarage
      @TheMightyGarage  5 месяцев назад

      Many thanks for the tip! I think he is actually used the wrong screws. Both are different and the threads look a little damaged so I’ll give them a closer inspection for sure. Best wishes, Mike.

    If the missing inner cable turns out to be the sole reason the rev counter doesn’t work, then that’s a real bonus. Can’t help but think,with how tight some of the screws were, if it were JIS, the force needed to unscrew would have just chewed them up. Well at least with me on the screwdriver! lol.

    • @richardbartlett6932
      @richardbartlett6932 5 месяцев назад +1

      Obviously never JIS on a British bike and everything needs to be very tight to slow everything shaking itself to bits 😊

      Thanks a lot Martin, yes, I remove the other end of the rev counter cable, and there’s definitely nothing in there! Hopefully there’s nothing else wrong with the drive and the instrument is good. I’m going to take them to my friend to inspect. Best wishes, Mike.

      😃😃 thanks Richard, thankfully, many of the nuts and bolts have not been touched so they are tightened just right. I think unfortunately, the previous owner had used the wrong screws on those handlebar levers, so we will see what they look like on the bench. Best wishes, Mike
