I went to a garage sale in September. The gentleman who was having the sale was a retired Marine. He had alot of military surplus items for sale. I got two ponchos with liners, three cots, four wool blankets, four canteens with cups and pouches, but the best thing was I got three cases of First Strike Rations for $2.00 a ration. They were packed in 2021 so very fresh. My two sons and I have taken a few out with us while sitting in the deer stands and blinds. We have coolers in our individual blinds and have a couple Rations each in them. My favorite items in this ration is the Cranberry First Strike Energy Bar, Pound Cake, Zapple sauce and the Peanut butter. Great Video as always Nathan
Picked up two or three from a local gun store several years ago, pretty much same as you described. Paid $18 a piece at the time. There was no "US Property" labeling, supposedly so they could be legally handed out in disaster areas. The energy bars still turn up in standard MREs, make sure you don't have any loose teeth.
FSR = caffeine, protein, calories & constipation 😂. Keep the soldier awake and functioning while making them not need to poop. Enough little treats to keep them motivated too.
Looks and sounds like a civilian made ration pack made of odds and ends, given a fancy name, and picked up by the case by old vets to sell to wannabes because the vet says "It's GENUINE! Honest! $2.00" While they smile quietly to themselves.
You need to put the name of the MRE in the title of the video, because a lot of people randomly search MRE names on youtube. You'll get more views. FSRs are awesome. Anyway, glad you are back.
Thank you again for posting these MRE info-reviews. I recognize a lot of time and effort go into these reviews and we appreciate all your work!! Great video!
I had first strike MREs when I was i Afghanistan. It is basically a 24-hour ration. There are stuff added to Striker meals that are not put in the regular MREs. There used to be Hilal and Kosher meals, too. Those would probably hard to find because all those items in it were off the shelf, food, and snacks and looked like it was made hastily for Jewish and muslim soldiers or given to local contractors, not quit sure though.
Nathan there is a lot of food in that one.. if i see one or a box i would pick one up. Never seen one of them before. THANKS for showing and glad you have more coming !!! RUSTY
Maybe get a pair of Leatherman Raptor Shears to open the MREs? I got a pair of those and a pair of Amazon Brand Rip-Offs and both work really well at cutting everything.
Ah yes, The results of heat fluctuations in storage . What ? You Dont like garlic? I didnt know that was possible. More for me then! I'll drop a vampire at 100 paces from my garlic love.
You were saying if you don't put the paper no one would watch it.😅 i would watch if you reviewed a toddle MRE for kindergarten play dates lol i love how you do videoes, and so happy you are back !
The Army "pogie bait" ration. They also have cold and hot weather supplemental packs. (calories in cold and more drinks in the hot) The lemonade powder was basically supposed to be poured into a big disposable water bottle.
Good ration , great video , got to be a little more creative w the food , like chocolate on cracker combo and potato on cracker , ate this stuff for 6 months in "operation desert storm". Had to look forward to eat these. Ate a mre last week w potatoes au gratin , it still tastes like potatoes all rotten, but w hot sauce it goes down! Lol, glad ur back!
Those protein shakes have a lot of calories. That's how the Hurricane Katrina Era mre's got a bad rap of being high caloric and unhealthy it was because of them. I miss those mre's because you had candy and other snacks plus plenty sides and mains.
I have heard of the First Strike Ration while I was still in the Pa. Guard before I retired in 2011. I can't remember how far back I first heard of it, I want to say 2005 but I'm not really sure.
I'm happy to see you still making ration videos. So many have gone away, thank you RUclips and our Federal Government. It almost looks like you could make a meal out of just the shake, cinnamon bun, and the chocolate "frosting." Come to think of it, I wonder how the chocolate would taste on the cinnamon bun?
I'm subbed, but this is the first of your videos I've been recommended in very a long time. I did click because of the title and the cricket bill, but I don't think the video would've been recommended to me at all without the clickbait. I'm part of the problem, sorry. lol
Nothing in this MRE fits with the concept of eating while on the move, except the corn nuts and the beef strips. Things you eat on the move are items that you can squeeze like a tube of tooth paste. The have just enough flavor to get them down but can be swallowed without much chewing. This is a sit down meal.
You should look up the British WW2 24 hour assault ration. Very similar concept of food that could be eaten on the go in the first 1-2 days of assaults. High in calories low in weight and space.
Heartburn ❤️🔥 is why I take omeprazole everyday I can’t even do anything spicy anymore every since I had gastric sleeve surgery I’ve been enjoying the reviews and welcome back
I am thinking shelf stable doesn't mean keep it for too long. I hear you saying most of it tasted old. I am not sure the date on that if you mentioned it. I have had several MRE's back when I taught young marines. They were all pretty current concerning dates, nothing ancient. I guess if you are starving, flavor may not matter as much. I have already decided First Strike would be my last choice for an MRE.
The FSR was only issued downrange during the later part of the GWOT. So if you didn't go out on any extended patrols in OIF/OEF. You probably never did see this ration.
I'm an old, old Navy Reservist. Living in Western Canada now, I'd more than love to do some videos of rations, both old and new. Trouble is, I'm broke and can't afford. Any thoughts?
We ate these daily in Afghanistan on patrol. The problem with First Strikes is that they give you heart burn. Caffein gum is money though. This is made for extended missions.
Came accross this vid after watching one of Steves vids seems like RUclips unsubed me a while ago and until now I thought you just quit as everything MRE seems to be going to Ukraine. Anyway glad to see you back in the game.
Can someone explain how you obtain the manufacture date of two hundred eighteenth day of year 2020 from the state "FSR9 0218"? How is year 2020 determined?
Very interesting. My son is a Marine. He never saw one f these. They train with the regular crappy MREs. You would think during training they would issue these. But he told me that they use the regular MREs so they have the heaters for warmth at night. Great review.
@@kevinmoore2929 Oh, they'll get used for training...eventually...as they near the limits of their shelf life / the inspection bullseye starts changing color.
Yep someone that doesn't mind garlic doesn't realize how many food items it's in hey that could be your intro song I can't get away from garlic the pain you drive into my taste buds ...
Yeah....as the name suggests these rations were meant to be consumed on the battlefield during the first 72 hours of intense combat. Probably why your military people ever heard of them. Not many military folks get involved in those types of activities, thank God.

Great deal
back when I was in the 82nd, we would call it field strip the MRE to what we wanted and either trade or dispose of the rest

Who remembers MRE videos from 2019??? That was MRE heyday.
God bless 🙏🙏🙏
FSR = caffeine, protein, calories & constipation 😂. Keep the soldier awake and functioning while making them not need to poop. Enough little treats to keep them motivated too.
I'm glad to see videos from you again and I've never seen a spread like that in a first strike ration before.

It was deliberate. He says why in the video.

We had those in 2009-10. They were good.

It's getting really ridiculous when you can't use the knife you want to open an MRE packet.
Utility snips work like a charm
beautiful damascus patterning on that knife
They should include Prevacid with that MRE. lol

I want to acknowledge that Nate still tastes and eats these things while knowingly having a giant case of digestive agita and with concurrent shpilkis

Soldiers had these all the time in Afghanistan.
"Torteelas", huh? Interesting
Jaja ganz sieger 🙂
That sandwich was all bread
These are not actual military rations lol they're for regular consumers
Great Review. Its a good thing that its a well kept secret. I wouldn't want to eat that one.

The vanilla shakes are the best
First strike is a commerial company selling to civilian / non military customers
Shake comes out better when shaken in pouch because it froths up making it thicker. That doesn't happen when just stirred.
So...where do civilians purchase these?

Excellent trolling sir.
I've seen some of those on Facebook marketplace by the case ( not cheap but not overly expensive ). Edit : I stand corrected , 120 per case of 12
Case of 9
I like watching your MRE reviews but next time you have tortillas on your menu, please pronounce it as "tor-tee-us."
Sometimes a mil vs a civ is different In combat anything I can eat I was running carbs and fat and sugar keep me going in high combat
Well good one Nate, keep on keep in’ on with it………

Nice.

almost could be a 24hr ration
This is a sniper ration

They're for the first few days of combat.
These aren't for training. They are meant for the first 72 hrs of operations. They get field stripped just like regular MREs.
@@kevinmoore2929 Oh, they'll get used for training...eventually...as they near the limits of their shelf life / the inspection bullseye starts changing color.
This is not a training MRE it's for multiday patrols in Afghanistan.
Funny. I never said they were for training. I said that you would think they would use them for training. As well.
... It's a soup ... not spread ...
dude, bread knife :DDD nice video
I thought I had it bad hating the smell, texture and taste of cheese. Not liking garlic sounds worse.

A little messy presentation. But I got the idea
Strange , no tea or coffee in that ration !
Not something to be consumed on the march.

Wasn't thrilled about the first strike ration. A funny aftertaste.
Pepperoni Ketchup mustard sausage all are heartburn arama?
