If you're waiting for Mr. George to finish his books any time soon, good luck. People would wait 1000 years for Mr. George to finish his work or there to be a new season. It's clear the creators worked as best as they could and they clearly expected a writer like Mr. George to finish his work by the time they reached a certain point on the show. The issue is that a writer can't get involved when their own work isn't done yet, meaning, no spoilers, so the creators had to invent anything that came to mind.

The show allowed the showrunners to show their style and exhibit full creative freedom as there was nothing to adapt. They failed abysmally and scored a measly 0.3 points out of 10. No fan of the books would ever butcher the story the way these idiots did. For a character-driven story they failed to understand any of the characters they were trying to portray and decided to throw their entire character development out the window to move forward a narrative that was nonsensical at best and lazy fanfiction at worst. I can tell you way more about characters' ambitions, motivations and personalities than D&D and I don't even get paid. I do it because I'm passionate about the masterpiece that is ASOIAF. I doubt the showrunners are and I reckon I could write better than them. These imbeciles don't even get an E for Effort. I learned a valuable lesson in never rushing things so I'll be looking forward to TWOW when it finally comes out in 2026.

But the women who had their own chapters are completely different and their development focuses on comletely differe traits of themselvs - Cersei, Arya, Denerys, Ketlin, Sansa, Brienne (oh i love Brienne so much..)

I firmly believe it only takes a few minutes of him discussing his work to convince most people of what he can still accomplish.
    Writing a book takes time.
Wrapping up a series of books more so, especially when we're already as far in as we are.
One day, we might see the entirety of the SoIaF books, and i don't mind that day being as far away as it is, because i don't want the series ruined through a conclusion that seems rushed, or doesn't fit in line with the rest of the story so far.

@@TheJester39 the problem with season 7 and 8 is that its just plot points with no substance in between. D and D have proven that without source material they are incompetent. even if the last 2 books take a similar direction, it will have better pacing and more explanation to the characters actions. and although the books can take a similar direction to the show, they cant take the exact direction. there are major characters in the book who arent even in the show at all, and there are characters who died a long time ago that lived far longer in the show. all of this has a great impact on the actual story and in the end makes it far different from what is portrayed on film. for example in the books, daenerys isnt the only targaryen. aegon targaryen turns out to still be alive and invades westeros with the golden company. thats a pretty game changing event that doesnt happen in the show what so ever. the differences from book and tv from the second book on are immense. to suggest the books will play out an ending thats identical or extremely similar to the show is just ludicrous.

The entire Game of Thrones world is a brutal world, the books aren’t advocating that kind of brutality, they are just exploring a world where it exists. And the ramifications of that brutality. The way the books treat women come straight out of our own feudal system that didn’t really end that long ago in historical timeframes. Women were Hostages, or past around for alliances to seal contracts between families, hell Some of that shit still happens today. If anything, I think the books shine a great lens on just how twisted and barbaric it was for everybody in those kind of systems, particularly poor people and women.

I dont think a book series or show should be categorized as feminist just because they have strong female characters. From a writing perspective, it's lazy to add a character that's incredibly skilled/powerful, make them female, and say "Look we appeased the masses." The best characters, female or otherwise, are the ones that are well written and have time to grow and/or evolve. I always go back to the example of Katara from avatar the last airbender. When she's first introduced she's a helpless girl from an isolated tribe. As the show progresses, we see her grow increasingly powerful and confident in her ability, and that is what makes her a compelling character.

I wouldn't say there is a huge market in tv and movies for 'epic fantasy' per se, but fantasy as a whole, absolutely. The vast majority of movies which make the biggest money are within the fantasy genre. Harry Potter, Hobbit and LOTR, Star Wars, Marvel, Disney, DC Comics, Avatar, Pirates of the Caribbean, it's all fantasy. As for television i'm not exactly sure. I know that sports, reality television/sitcoms and music dominate a lot of the television market, Super Bowl, NFL, Eastenders, World Cup, Olympics, Wimbledon, Big Bang Theory, MTV, American Idol, NCIS, Grace and Frankie, Friends from College, The Voice, Dancing With the Stars.

  • @nadjak3410

I don't think the scene is particularily problematic. What is problematic is the discussion, whether this scene in the real world would be received as rape or not. In my book, forcing someone into a situation for sex that they don't want (even if they are down for sex in general) is rape. If you penetrate a woman somewhere she doesn't want, even if she previously was down for it, is rape. Pulling the condom off or forcing someone to have sex without it without their consent is rape. Forcing someone to have sex in front of their son's dead body after they repeatedly said no is rape, even if they eventually give in. It started with rape.
