Listening to the Ventures never gets old.
Jeeee gooo🎸🎸
Classy showmanship. LOVE IT!
Don Wilson was the last of the original members ..simply the best instrumental group of all time.
Better than the Shadows
their Tunes will be played for ever ! Timeless....RIP DON WILSON....you were SURFTASTIC !!
It is a picture of the 1990 Japanese tour. The concert hall is Matsudo Municipal Hall in Chiba Prefecture. This picture was broadcasted all over Japan by the national broadcast "NHK" of Japan.
I have listened to the Ventures heavily the last 6 months. Really getting into them. I just learned from watching this video and seeing what people were saying that Don Wilson had passed. At this moment I'm hurting. What a great man and band.In alot of ways I loved his rhythm guitar just as much as lead. Each instrument had such quality. I was also very proud of the band being mostly fellow Washington st people. If you can hear me Don, Thanks for the great tunes. We will be listening forever.
They were "crisp" when they played their instruments...all of them!
hey no feeling bad, such guys are immortal, their music lives on and they also live on. Of course God must be having a fantastic array of musicians at His place.
This will never get old, But I will. Thanks Ventures for so many great tunes.
Forgot how much I loved these back in the day. They will never get old.
Rest In Peace Don. I've loved this song since it came out, back when I was 3. My 6 year old son loves it too.
Yeah , I was 8 🎸!
Godspeed brother !
The Ventures...one of the best ! love these guys.
This picture is a Japanese performance in 1990. It was broadcast nationwide by the national broadcast NHK, after which video and CD were released. The location is Matsudo Municipal Hall in Chiba Prefecture.
Thank you for clarifying. First thing I noticed was the blocks and binding jazzmaster and I'm thinking; hang on a minute that guitar couldn't be earlier than a '68 or '69 then I see the hotrails in the stratocaster and losing my mind...
64 is my preferred version as I love that reverb. just amazing
The original also has reverb. I like the slide. Really like both versions. And both versions of Pipeline. Go Ventures!
Bob Bogle, Nokie Edwards, Don Wilson, and Mel Taylor.... one of the happiest bands on the planet.
My family started purchasing Ventures vinyl LP records around 1963. Their blue Telstar LP record had 12 beautiful songs, especially Apeche, and purculator.
At 75+, I still have Several LP's Plus those " Pay Guitar with the Ventures LPs" !!!
Has Visual playing Instructions for Fret !
These guys are the stuff of legend. We have seen the end of real rock 'n roll, and they were in the thick of it.
The first album I ever bought was the Ventures. Love them still.
2022 and they still rock..I'm 43 and grew up listening to this..
Rachel Olvera Ortiz, "Walk Don't Run" song is 58 years old. It was already old music when you were born.
RIP Don, thanks for the memories. Started surfing in 64'.
Don Wilson was one helluva rhythm guitarist.
Tengo 76. RIP.
gotta love Walk Don't Run 64. I love the fade in.
The Ventures initially played on Mosrite Guitars. Then they started using the Fender guitars later. Mostites were manufactured in Southern California.
Sorry, Charles, but that is incorrect! They started with Fenders and later, after Nokie hooked up with Semie Mosley, converted to Mosrites and all became partners in distribution. Just look at them in their very early album covers and promotional shots and you will see the Jazzmasters. I even saw them in the later 90's and they were back playing Fenders. You might look around and find the biography on The Ventures - search Google... It's out of print but can still be found in some libraries and thru the InterLibrary Loan system.. Lots of great details and stories. RUclips has a TON of videos from over the years and all around the world - mostly Japan - that features them and their equipment plus various members, from startup to the current lineup since all the original members have passed away. Note Don's brand "Wilson Brothers" guitars (Google that, too) in later years, somewhat Mosrite like and I believe still available today! I am 62 and I still love Ventures ♥️

I looks like these four gents were genuinely enjoying performing this.
Absolutely Love the Ventures and always have.
I'm 69 and play bass and guitar, these guys were Gods to me when I was a kid, I can still play all these tunes.
This track is a take-out from the Ventures in Japan 1990 Laserdisc and VHS tape release

Love the Ventures, they along with other surf music groups were inspirational in our surfing days. The music still brings back memories of summer days when we surfed our Malibus at Narrabeen beach Australia. Thanks for sharing....God Bless.
The legendary Don Wilson handling lead here. Magnificent. We were immeasurably blessed to have had the Ventures with us for as long as we did.
Don is playing the rhythm guitar here. The other guitarist, probably Jerry McGee,
is playing lead.
@@bigbass421 Yes, I was going to say the same.
@@bigbass421 They appear to be trading off. And that is definitely Jerry McGee in the video.
@@MikeBlitzMag Just a note, I have two of my basses autographed by The Late Nokie Edwards- I met him at a gig we were both playing up in Florence, Oregon - he was a very nice man.
The greatest band to ever grace our planet! Musical Perfection! 🎸
Got to meet these guys when I was in a band that opened for them in Milford, De. in the '80s. Very nice people. Great band!!
Espectacular!
Sí que fueron buenos tiempos.
Escena agradable con los originales The Ventures.
Gerry McGee is phenomenal, don & bob are amazing & Mel Taylor just kickin'
The Ventures..The best of the best instrumental group in the World....!!!!!!!!!!
Try listening to the Shadows of Great Britain. They are awesome too.
@@ernestogalura97 YES I AGREE ? BUT WHEN THEY SING I DONT LIKE AT ALL
So many memories from junior high and high school. They will rock on forever.
I m 66 and still have my dad’s original copy ! I remember it on the hi-fi st 8 years old !
R.I.P. to all the band members who are no longer with us in this life.
Great version..love it thx
Thank you for sharing. Brought back old memories. We had a set of records.
Someone correct me but don't they have one of the most distinct sounds in rock history.
I was only a little kid in a late sixties when my brothers played these albums and 50 years later I'm still enjoying the music
Love these guys. They sound even better than ever here.
I first heard this when I visited my cousins in Canada in 1969.....picked up a guitar that evening and had the licks down pat in a day or so.....always preferred this version to the other one. Interesting that Bob Bogle is playing bass in this one, and I have seen clips of them playing the other version and he is the one playing the lead guitar. RIP Bob Bogle
It turned out the ex-bass player Nokie Edwards was better on lead guitar, so he took the lead guitarist.
Great music, brings back many memories Alan
I ditched elementary school a few times and remember one of them dancing to the ventures like the bad baby i was being so damn happy to have the house to myself doing my own thing.
Lucky enough to have seen them twice… fantastic band!
One cannot imagine how many guitar players were inspired by these men,,,and Fender guitars
Grew up on the Ventures and other groups like the Fireballs. Still as good today as when they came out with walk Don't Run.
I started like this song in 1959. the girls across the street had the record.
I bought the Hawii Five-O 45 in the 8th grade and I have my dad ‘s original 64 mono copy of Walk don’t run!🎸!
I don't know why the radio stations Don't play more of this music today! It is so great!
TELL THEM!
To play the song when I was a kid!
When myself and some mates formed a band in tech collage, this and Apache were the first two things we learnt.
the original and best version of Walk don't run wow
Don Wilson absolutely loving what he was doing!!
Awesome always will be forever
Soundtrack of my youth 🎼🖤
I finally found this on vinyl.
I jave my Dad’s 64 copy!
This is super rare. I'm a mega-fan and I didn't even know they had ever played this live. Thanks for sharing.
Wut. why would you think that. It's literally on the first video if you search "ventures live"
Timeless, Endless, A Prayer of the universe for the future
Timeless, magical... ♥
Master class.
bring back the good times..........
I know🎸
Cruising speed with the roof off and the windows down. And into the sunset we go.
so glad I got to see then in2013 in Newton nj with a meet n greet
Love them guys best band 👍 out there will stop like them forever 😎👍
Glad to know this youtube video is "very rare". That is rare, as in anyone can see it anytime.
The good old Dentures will never fade away.
Was that comment tongue in cheek or a keyboard slip?
@@thomasbain9241 ... A true joke ! It seems appropriate for one of the oldest r & r band. And one of my favorites.
@@catholiccowboy8545 I enjoyed your joke. A friend of mine plays in a band that features songs from the 1960s. They are called Silver Hair. I loved the Ventures (dentures) in the 1960s and still do. They were inspirational in our surfing days . I still surf now at 74. God Bless.
@@thomasbain9241 .. Ok but the Ventures were not a surfing band at all ... They tack that nickname to them now because they used to record an album of surf music once in 1961 or 62. But they had nothing to do with surfing.
Una de las primeras canciones de the ventures que escuché gracias a mi padre que gustaba de buena música. Excelentes músicos. Gracias por compartir. Dice un fragmento de una canción mexicana, ( no es mejor el que va aprisa para caminar distancias).... Camina, no corras.
I grew up to these guys. They have always been epic.
They were why I took up the 12-string in the 60’s.
Fantstico I've played this song many times in guitar 🎸
TOP CLASS GUITAR ARTISTRY
Chciałbym być na występie tego wspaniałego zespołu cudowna relaksujaca muzyka uwielbiam takie klimaty cudo
Wow, flashbacks to my High School years.
Gotta love the Ventures! I heard that they were about as big in Japan as the Beatles were here in the states. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!
Yep, there are even tribute bands: Strawberry Parfait (though I don't know if they're currently on hiatus or disbanded) and HotStyle. Here's a 9 yr. old Chicchi with HotStyle who became the lead guitarist of Strawberry Parfait. ruclips.net/video/tzNajPghYrI/видео.html and here's Strawberry Parfait ruclips.net/video/CQ4J36quoJk/видео.html and their cover/interpretation of House of the Rising Sun ruclips.net/video/LtjHGsfXVmw/видео.html
I just learned that in Japan Nokie is know as "The Guitar King" 🎸 👑
I think it must be blowing the RUclips censorship collective that younger people could be diggin this music in 2021
Zabardast, cheers from Toronto...
The Music I have ever loved in my life....THE VENTURES....Music of my dream 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!!!
This was a hit when I was 3! 😊
I wasn't happy with 64 when it came out but eventually warmed to it.
I prefer this to the original recorded version, it's more fluid. Bless the Ventures.
This is GREAT!
Someone once told me to ride the wave and chill still riding that wave to the tune of this song
In Perú Ventures áre an institution. Most of peruvians learned the guitar with them. I AM really a fan.
Long Live The Ventures
I still listen to them
FANTASTIC!!!!!!
Super performance
Thanks
When Nokie Edwards left the band, rhythm guitarist, Don Wilson, slid seamlessly into the lead guitar slot and knocked it out of the park. That was great!!!!
As with Charles above, this is, at least somewhat, incorrect! I'm not at all familiar with Don playing lead - though he might have for a short time. Bob Bogle was the original lead player and in my opinion always better that any of the other lead guys, including Nokie and Gerry McGee. Nokie and Gerry were finger pickers while, as far as I have witnessed, Bob was a straight picker. Nokie could do fancy stuff at times, but, again to me, just didn't have quite the direct feel for the original material that Bod did. And he was the guy who played the original hits in the early 60's before Nokie switched to lead. You can see him play the originals in a few RUclips videos where he steps up and digs in - but you have to search. Nokie was originally hired to play bass but eventually made his way to lead with Bob's agreement. Check to see if you can find the BOOK on the Ventures.. It will take a bit of looking but I've read part of it...
@@BURTBROWN -- Easy there, BURTSY. I believe you are, at least, somewhat incorrect. If that isn't Don WIlson up there, then he lent his face out to someone. Nokie was a much better lead player than Bob Bogle. Bob's muffled sound was nowhere near Nokie's sharp, crisp way of playing. Nokie suggested Bob's guitar ability was being stretched in leads and Bob agreed and traded places on bass. The Ventures took off after that.
@@ricenglish4556 LOL!!! You are using a MUCH LATER video in their evolvement and INCORRECTLY pointing out a song WHERE GERRY McGEE IS CLEARLY PLAYING LEAD!!! LOL!! Watch after Don does the INTRO BUT IS NOT PLAYING LEAD, GERRY IS! Yes, that IS DON, no doubt, BUT HE AIN'T PLAYING LEAD!!!!!!! How could you even THINK THAT???? First off, I CLEARLY STATED "IN MY OPINION" ABOUT BOB! You THEN state "The Ventures took off after that." meaning after Nokie took up lead.... THE FIRST HITS WERE WITH BOB, NOT NOKIE!!! (See included photo from early promotional shots) I don't know where you are getting you incorrect information from, BUT it's WRONG!!!! NOKIE WAS ORIGINALLY HIRED AS A BASS PLAYER although when they saw him in a club he was playing lead. YES, HE TECHNICALLY MAY HAVE BEEN A BETTER PLAYER, I just personally feel BOB'S PLAYING ON THE ORIGINALS SOUNDED BETTER - YOU MAY DIFFER, WHICH IS FINE - that's OPINION AND TASTES! Yes, Nokie "suggested Bob's guitar ability was being stretched in leads and Bob agreed and traded places on bass." I have no argument on that... I HAVE STOOD IN FRONT OF THE GROUP - LIVE AND IN PERSON - ON NUMEROUS OCCASION WITH SEVERAL OF THE LEAD PLAYERS INCLUDING BOB, NOKIE, & GERRY. You seem to have come along much later in their careers and are disconnected from when they first started! Here is the early promo picture with Bob On lead and Nokie on bass: duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=promotional+photos+of+%22the+Ventures%22&iax=images&ia=images&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.britannica.com%2F99%2F23199-050-EF2120C4%2FVentures.jpg
@@ricenglish4556 And "BOB's MUFFLED SOUND????"""" That makes no sense at all WHEN BOB'S LEAD IN "WALK DON'T RUN" ARE WHAT MADE THEM FAMOUS!!!!! LOL!!!!!
@@BURTBROWN -- You're a scary guy, BURTSTER. Woah Nellie, hold your horses, cowboy. First of all, your LOL's are absolutely precious. What are you, 4 years old? Second, your CAPITALIZING is either terrifying, or just plain sad. Finally, if you ever get challenged in a dark alley, just tell your would be attackers that you use a lot of exclamation points. That'll get 'em. Don Wilson is playing his usual rhythm and also collaborating in unison on some of the lead with Gerry. Didn't your partner point that out? You probably don't realize that Walk Don't Run 64 was a remake of their original hit, but with Nokie now playing lead instead of Bob. You better tell your partner to fill you in or he gets nothing tonight. Yes, they took off in album sales and had another hit in 1968 with Hawaii 5-0 with Nokie before he left. I'm 69 years old and have been a Ventures fan since I was 6. I'll bet they thought you were a stalker at their shows. There are a lot of innocent people walking around who are not aware of you. For their safety, please get Professional Help. Adios, Amigo.
Live in Japan 1990
Amazing....🙂🙂🙂🙂
Great version
Fantastic music.
I‘m fucking in tears , watching this awesome set …,oh my !
A lot of talent was here this was a great piece of music these guys didn't have artificial things to make their sound they knew it and they did it all
One of the groups whose music will long outlive them. Beatles, Ventures, Beach Boys etc.
Love this song
Walk don't Run perhaps the best rock instrumental of all time.... have the original on my iPod
Have my dad ‘s original 64 copy!🎸
Hmmm.. wonder when that was, can't have been that long ago. Been a fan for 50 years.. I have *every* ventures album.. and maybe 80 of their cassettes (the original issues).. plus I have one autographed by all 4 original members..
Yet I've never seen them live before now..
God Speed Don Wilson an Bless You Ventures....
Fantastic. Mel Taylor actually switches grip at 0:45.
How fascinating that the director seems to have thought it was Don Wilson playing the melody, when it was actually Gerry McGee on the white Strat! Poor old Gerry barely gets a look-in on camera.
One of the greatest ‘64 instrumentals ever!
Hermosa música las guitarras y la batería excelente transportan al viejo Oeste 2023.
