I'm more of a fan of the gaming towers but in the future when I'm older and get a job I imagine this thing with 2 monitors and a nice keyboard , overall a really clean and nice setup.
that moment when your PC is smaller than your modem. This is great though! I'm currently fascinated with the move toward small form factor with a view to seeing retro style gaming "computers" that hark back to the Micro-computer era of the 80's and 90's.

The dual ethernet ports are for link aggregation to increase bandwidth on the local network. Many professionals access documents on a local server which may be connected with link aggregation so this can double file transfer speeds on the local network. The use case you mentioned is very unlikely.
@asad asd Where are you getting that info from? Thunderbolt 3 is 40 Gbps or 5GB/s. An x16 PCIe 3.0 is 15.75 GB/s. For a small plug and play cable you're not losing a whole lot. I've ran GPUs on x4 and x8 with little to no performance loss depending on the workload. I think most people looking at thunderbolt solutions are going for convenience anyway.
@asad asd Why? It sits in between x4 and x8 speeds which you can look up benchmarks for yourself. You're not getting the full GPU speed but you're not getting near half of it either.
@asad asd your a fucking idot I've used thunderbolt 3 for an external gpu and yeah I dont get the full performance of it, but I get about 80% of it. Stop talking about something you know nothing about.
I bought one that already had the storage and RAM set up for me ahead of shipping! It also came with the Windows 10 Pro disc, so I didn't even need to buy anything else separately or build it myself! Quite pleased!
A nice glowing Intel logo would have topped this off nicely instead of the skull, because there maybe people out there that just want a decent computer with great graphics capabilities and aren't necessarily gamers. 🤔
I’ve got this computer. I’m 40yo and until u see it in person don’t judge the Skull! It’s actually really cool because it has depth in the eyes like 2.5d. It’s really cool.
This NUC (Hades Canyon) makes a great home theater PC. Plenty fast, dual drives, a plethora of ports, AC wireless, QUIET, small form factor, etc. Also makes a great portable gaming rig. Can install Ubuntu to make it a hack box, or dual boot Ubuntu/Windows. It has dual gigabit NICs which can be teamed via Intel NIC team aggregation for increased throughput. I'm probably going to buy more of these, give them as gifts ;-)
The cost of Windows license is a bit of a setback - they should include an OEM license. But this is a great solution to attached to ur living room PC, options for streaming etc are much better with Windoze.
It is referred to a lot as VR capable, but oddly enough almost no reviewer ever tries to actually play any VR games on it. Is there ANY review ANYWHERE on playing actual VR games on this?
How much did that damn thing cost after all shenanigans ? If it is going to cost more than $1200 than I will pass , my Mac mini 2014 still works really awesome .
Apple may have created this product form factor category with their Mac Mini back in the day, but Intel definitely now owns it with their NUC line of products. Am waiting for a line of processors that definitively address (in the CPU hardware architecture) the Spectre and Meltdown threats or otherwise would be in the market for a new PC right now. The software work arounds to these threats incur performance hits on the Linux kernel.
been looking a lot into mini computers and such, when watching this i heard "bla bla bla, overpriced minicomputer" but then out of nowhere i heard "supports vr headsets" . . . you got my attention Hades Canyon!
I’m not good with computers but you said you could hook up a external graphics card to beef it up. I have a gtx 1070 in my pc right now and I would like to hook that up with the nuc. Could that be possible and what would I need to do that
Eh eh, maybe the "every" part of the comment was actually far stretched, but I personally have assembled the NUC with 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM (not the cheapest ones) and still staid under $800. Here in Switzerland were I live is a steal.
one feature of this unit is never mentioned in unboxing or reviews. I know this NUC8 is getting old now, but one of the rear ports is labelled "optical" but does not look like a port that any TOSLink cable would fit. So could someone please explain, what is it????
What do you mean you have to install Windows? I'm not that techie. Don't sell versions of this thing with that already installed? How much would the Windows operating system cost if I had to buy it separately?
Is this PC fanless ? I had the Intel Nuc Skull Barebone NUC6i7KYK2 and that thing was not a computer, was an airplane! I placed it in the living room and i could still hear it in my bedroom. It is the most noisy pc i ever heard in my life.
if I buy an IntelNUC in USA (120W)....and then take it to Bhutan (250W) and change the power cord (for the difference in electrical outlet) only....will this work?
Hmm... i would take this for home-lab routing, Firewall, DHCP/DNS stuff... 2xRJ45 is a neat thing to have there. :) Bit a overkill, but... why not if you have a deep pockets. :)
i saw on amazon on what is bought frequently. if i bought them intel nuc + ssd + ram will it come pre-installed? i see the pre-installed cost 100 dollar but it has less storage

With so many useful ports, you know it is NOT an Apple product.

The key it's The Thunderbolt ports.. You can put easy a external GPU, never got out of date
Yes, you can take it without the external Gpu to a friend's house for example and when you return home connect to an external Gpu.

Wow that skull is SOOOOO amazing! That should make everybody realise just what an individual rebel you are!
very good video, thank you
Can I connect an external graphics card to the device?
A nice glowing Intel logo would have topped this off nicely instead of the skull, because there maybe people out there that just want a decent computer with great graphics capabilities and aren't necessarily gamers. 🤔
yeah thats what i want. Glowing Skull looks like a 14 year olds computers
He didn’t show but if you turn the rgb off you can’t even see where the skull was, it’s really clean. Pretty clever stuff 👌
the provoked prawn channel sent me here, the device looks interesting !
Thanks for the overview. I think it would be worth it at half the price.
Wish this thing would replace ECU in vehicles someday and replace those OEM CAN and LIN bus for an easy vehicle mods.
You didn't answer the biggest question we all have. What games can it play? Is that graphics card still viable today? Also can the GPU be replaced?
I’ve got this computer. I’m 40yo and until u see it in person don’t judge the Skull! It’s actually really cool because it has depth in the eyes like 2.5d. It’s really cool.
This can make a very good HTPC. It is very small to place around TV.
The Tech Chap question🤔 is the cpu is upgradable ?

Fun little PC so many screen. Much better then laptop.
Nice video! I would prefer this over a laptop any day.
You should use the other RAM slot first, it makes putting in a second one later easier.
Tom, I really like your watch!
thanks dude! I did a quick instareview on my instagram (@thetechchap)
Nice and clean video, love the style!
Nice video Tom. Portable PC. 👍
That is a nice office chair, what is it called?
Nice little box of tricks. Shame I just bought back my old gaming pc from a friend if not I would have given this is a go. When I get some free cash.
The cost of Windows license is a bit of a setback - they should include an OEM license. But this is a great solution to attached to ur living room PC, options for streaming etc are much better with Windoze.
can you explain to me do you need to buy more stuff? is it good for gaming?
I use it as a home theater pc
(btw I bought a long time ago and it does really well).
"A lot of people don't really know what NUC stands for. It doesn't really matter."
Tom:
That is frickin awesome and I like the skull ...... matches my phone theme ...... lol
You should always populate both ram channels. Otherwise you have half the memory bandwith which nerfs your performance.
Oh you mean exactly like he says at 5:33?
Hi there! Great review. Which watch are you wearing? Love it !
What smart watch you wearing ? Looks nice
So you're telling me tom that that little thing can replace the pc that i don't have in my living room

So it does not come with Windows (10 Pro hopefully) pre-installed?
Meaning you have to buy a separate copy of Windows, is that it.
Would this be suitable as a video editing workstation?
Bluetooth keyboard and mouse? Does it lag? Can you do a review regarding gaming on it?
It would have been nice if they had made it a bit thicker and integrated the PSU.
Great video!
I think you guys in the UK pay a premium for most everything. This thing is available here in the USA for about $850.

So does this only work with the RAM and SSD from the manufacturer or could I just use any??
Where are the links to the RAM and SSD?
You can see them at 4:10
Well, ‘ssd Intel 512gb or 16 gb ram from Intel’ .... is not exact of what YOU are sayng in the video ... i put link and type ... in description ...

Shame it's not hot swapable to switch HD Linux or Windows
Do they also have that weird fan failures after some time, as previous Canyon ?
Quite interested in one of those, whats the cooling like?
I'm a proud, happy owner of a 8805G model. They're a bit expensive, but with good RAM and SSD discounts, it beats every bigger desktop competitor
