  • Welcome to the Illinois Railway Museums 2016 Parade of Power. This is a yearly event that occurs at the museum show casing some of their diesel equipment. Some of the more popular locomotives they have are CB&Q 9911 and Nebraska Zephyr Consist, CNW 411 and Bi Level Commuter Cars, and Burlington Northern 1, 2 and 3. I hope you enjoy this video and if you do enjoy then please leave a comment, like, and subscribe!

    Love the crisp and clear sound of CB&Q 9911-A's Leslie A200 at 0:19. Couldn't be a better combination.

      @@StevenJam What were your favorites in the parade? If I had to choose, I'd choose Milwaukee Road 760, Commonwealth Edison 15, and the U.S. Army switcher.

    Awesome video. Too bad there was not that many people there. Need more folks to appreciate vintage things in general and all things railroad in particular. Most do not have any idea how important the railroad was/is to the United States

      NP never had E8s or E9s
      CBQ did.

      BN-3 was an ex CB&Q / BN Unit it was retired in Cascade Green from Chicago Commuter service in 1992. I believe it was 9919.

    I really wish we could have heard the announcer's commentary throughout. Nice seeing the locomotives, but some background on them would have been so much better.

      This year I plan on setting up an audio recorder near the speaker then having my camera further out. This way people can hear the announcements.

      That would be great! I worked on the Leslie S2M that's on the E5A many years ago. It sounds like it needs some attention again. The 44 bell is all but silent.

      With diesel days happening this weekend I will try and do the audio recording near the booth. Not 100% sure how I will do it but hoping to get some of the audio.

    If they ever fire up the turbine powered UP for a drive please post it.

    • @StevenJam
      @StevenJam  7 лет назад +3

      HandyManDan31 I think the FRA would not allow that. Possibly the 850Hp engine in the A unit. but the turbine is a thing of the past sadly.

      @blackbirdgaming8147 7 лет назад +3

      Steven Jam Plus the turbine burned a very specific fuel that today is likely very expensive and extremely difficult to find. The turbine also guzzled fuel like nobody's business and the fuel it burned was corrosive so yeah... definitely not getting fired up. Not to mention it was so loud it literally shattered windows when it passed, one of the reasons the turbines were banned from operating anywhere near civilization.

      And they called them bird burners for a reason. And the exhaust would probably melt the cantenary

      HandyManDan31 I agree, I would like to see that old work horse. But, we can't have everything sadly ☹️ just like we can't have all the old merger railroads still be major railroads

    Interesting that the BN 1 2 and 3 are in Grinstein paint, given that no F or E units were ever painted that scheme.

    Learn how to cut dead time out of your videos.

      If I were editing this video today I probably would have cut out the gaps between trains. As this video was filmed over two years ago now and was meant to showcase what the parade was like with gaps I think it serves its purpose.

      Go to the museum and pay them some much-needed admission money and watch them YOURSELF!!
