    I know this video seems off beat but I truly do believe that if you’re starting to garden or have been for years and journals aren’t you’re idea of fun. Vlogging your journey is incredibly valuable to your progression as a gardener. Remembering what worked and what didn’t is SO important even if it’s just for yourselves.

      Yes I agree! I started my channel over a decade ago when there was not much here in Canada or Ontario. I was shocked when I got 100 subscribers on my channel the first few months with awful 480 p camcorder videos and dial up uploading. I started my channel to document for myself and see what worked or didn't from year to year. It was exciting to have a community with others doing the same thing, to chat with and watch each others videos. It was not for money back then. They had google adsense and even though I had an account, I didn't put ads on my videos. (they were banners back then). I restarted documenting my new garden in 2020 and I still go back and learn from some of my old videos. I like to see how things get established from year to year. We are gardeners helping gardeners (my new moto) and I was happy to find your channel. You help explain a lot! Thank you for your help with my tomatoes this year. I totally agree with your diagnosis and I will use that information to help my growing starts next year. I just hope my videos are encouraging for someone out there whatever that may be. Cheers!

    Such valuable observations! Vlogging garden progression is invaluable to both the gardener and new gardeners. This way they can set themselves up with the expectation that gardens take alot of time to build and lots of trial and error. Thanks for the helpful tips!

    1st Thank you for helping others. After losing my farm to a fire I decided to start my gardening channel- I think it was my therapy!!! So I do put out videos constantly I am up to roughly 200 videos. Mostly short videos, but I have very few views. RUclips changes my tags so just recently do they let me put gardening as a tag. But otherwise I will take any help!

      @@GardeningInCanada I guess I am an urban "homesteader" lite version. I live in a major city in the 'burbs, gardened on a larger scale years ago but now I have a postage stamp sized lot with big dreams. Essentially a garden diary with a lot of learnings! I can't have any animals so just working on growing as much as I can with the space I've got.

    Thank you so much for doing this video. I've recently started and I have been attending online classes through think media on how to start a RUclips channel. I have felt it's more geared towards tech channels or sales. It was refreshing to hear feom someone who started a garden RUclips channel, that had a strategy they were willing to share. I look forward to binge watching your videos!

    Firstly... Thank you , thank you, thank you for mentioning me on this video! I'm a total newbie in the youtube world and am having so much fun vlogging about life on the prairies. Secondly - thanks for the great advice on how to build up my followers - I have also been using facebook groups to share my gardening adventures but never thought to use my pinterest board - awesome idea! Thirdly - thanks for sharing some other Canadian youtube gardener channels - I also follow Prairie Plant Girl (we live in same zone!) and always looking to connect with more gardening canucks! thanks again! Keep on making great videos!

    I agree that it's a great way to archive your journey. When I look at my old videos I see what has changed in the garden and what still has to be done. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about starting a youtube channel on gardening 👍 I'm still busy to establish mine. I started the channel in German but there were not so many people speaking German. Now that I make an English version as well it's really happening. I should have done that right from the beginning.

    My biggest struggle is not knowing what I'm doing with the channel I want to start. It makes me think that I should frame it as a "learn with me" type of channel. Basically saying that I'm not an expert but I'm learning and sharing the journey. The topic is gardening and projects/topics around that.

    Thank you so much for making this video. The information that you've provided is very good and I really appreciate it. There are not very many people out there from what I can find that are actually telling you how to do a gardening channel. Every now and then you might see some that will talk about it, but as far as being able to search for it, yours was the only one that popped up for making a gardening channel. So, I really appreciate you providing your information. Your a gem definitely and you aren't just saying the information. In my opinion you care about our success which is really nice. Honestly I had never heard of you before and this is the first video that I've seen of yours. I subscribed to your channel and I am going to be looking at more of your videos. I know your video is 2 years old, but I still wanted to give a comment and say thank you for doing what you do and for helping us. 😊

    Oh wow, I had no idea you had a video like this until now. YT algo is scary with how it gets in your head sometimes.
    I had the same thinking on the comments actually. I tend to leave my thoughts or experiences on many videos.... every day haha. So that's a good exposure line for me by just switching to this name.
    I don't need to journal to remember, reflect, or be proud. However, the more I chat to IRL people the more I get sad that nobody is very interested. Especially because I like to impart wisdom more than just chat about things and get peeved with a lack of curiosity on the receiving end. So I can get some of that out and take people on a journey with me taking action on my IRL goals.
    I got some useful tips and encouragement out of this, so thank you!

  • @Ahomesteadersdream
    @Ahomesteadersdream 3 года назад +2

    Awesome advice - very encouraging! I took the shotgun approach with my first 20 videos to see what resonates and gets a bit of traction... the analytics are SOOO helpful... FB is also very damaging to getting the algorithm to work with RUclips... the viewer retention rates are insanely low from that source (I won’t be doing that anymore!, but FB groups are great for networking purposes). I’m going to try a few more short form videos and make them more valuable and less hokey. But Yes, it’s also a constant public experiment and can get a little embarrassing putting yourself out there!
