Great stuff!!This stretch of line runs past where I use to live(around 2:04 mark on the Video)on the right about 1/4 mile from the ECML.You could always hear when one of these Deltic's was coming. Thanks for sharing this great video.Happy days!!
I came back from Carlisle down the WCML about 10 years ago behind D9000 and could tell it was doing over 100mph. After alighting in Stoke I had to walk up and ask the driver. 108mph wasn't bad for a 50 year old veteran!
You know its a fascinating video this, funny thing is when 22 approaches Doncaster, the compressor fires up, and it feels like 22 has a proud roar passing the plant, sort of like Look at me STILL GOIN!
Imagine back in the day after driving one of these for 3 or 4 hours straight by the time you got home and crawled into bed your body was still feeling every bump in the track and your ears were still ringing with Napier noise.....
Ha. I bet the driver of the unit at 2:12 was jealous lol. Wish I'd been on the train, or at least the platform to give a resounding, dare i say it, "My Lords"!
My Lords!!! ///// And I take great exception to your suggestion they were nazi salutes. You are disrespecting every enthusiast of that era with that crass comment.
Great stuff,it reminds me of when i secondmanned it on 22nd Feb 1997 King's Cross to Norwich, never did get to drive it,has anyone any footage from that trip??Also has anyone got footage of the 25th Sept 1999 'Last Chance' railtour,I'd love to see footage of 37109 on the stops at King's Cross on full power in neutral,I was the driver on it for the Donny KX bit, sorry it went a bit tits up but I got it sorted with some help eventually.
If the signal isn't green a hooter sounds instead of the bell, and the driver must press a button within a couple of seconds; otherwise the power will be shut off and the brakes applied. There is also a display in front of the driver that shows uniform black if the last signal passed was green and shows black and yellow segments (the yellow ones luminous in the dark) if it was not green. With this system if the driver is taken ill the train will be stopped without running into anything.
I don't know what the drivers are winging on about. Look at steam locos, even worse for visibility. And then there's American locos with their centre cabs
Our locos where properly designed and built unlike the yank designs we have now due to a certain government who destroyed our manufacturing base in the 1980,s
This is meant to be like a driver’s eye view, not a look around... the point of this is to show what the train went past. It would be pointless if he aimed the camera at the controls for the entirety of the video.
This has to be one of the best railway videos of all times. Magnificent!!
Brings back many memories of the good old days of rail travel! Brilliant!
This video brings back happy memories of the days I drove these beasts on the ECML
thanks for posting
Great footage! Love the cab bells (indicating the clear road ahead). Also seems like a relatively quiet cab too!

It brings back memories when there deltics ruled the east coast mainline from the 1970s and 1980s
Fantastic please add more!!

Darn fine peice of footage!!
Everyone loves a Deltic.
That is a good video! well done!

They rode very well. The template for all high speed traction. Wasn’t too nosey when the curtain was pulled shut.
Fantastic
thats mint i wish i had a cab ride
Its the same deltic that was on ITN when they went out of mainline service
awesome !!
Memories.
I liked it!!
Very very nice !!!

Did the driver had a good view out from the seat? Or did he have to stand up to see properly?
They sit down, this video shows a driver sat down driving one of these Deltics here

@paulbadger1
Yes it is
Looks like a rough ride, eh?
What with 3300 hp under the bonnet and a top speed of over 100 mph... Lovely Jubbly...
What is that bell that randomly rings?
bozerabc123 ....aws automatic warning system.

The warning bell is AWS,SIGNAL off.
Why do you thank yourself in the end credits?
ouch! electric wires!

I don’t mean to be too critical, but you really need to invest in a tripod!
You can’t really use a tripod in the cab I don’t think
American locos with centre cabs? Where have you been lately? Modern North American locos have end cabs.
Our locos where properly designed and built unlike the yank designs we have now due to a certain government who destroyed our manufacturing base in the 1980,s
Would have been nice to have some 'in cab' views, instrument gauges etc, rather than the entire 4 min shot through a window.
Pointless four minute video spent staring through one window at rail track and overhead cable......why? What about the INSIDE of the cab?
