I can't stand watching Fang Bo tosses in some recent match against Boll - starts at middle of table ends in the corner or even further, barely 50cm up. The match would be so unexciting if I were to call faults on him. I always find it funny that the high-toss-guys make also the ones most compliant to this rule.
You're right, we forgot to insert slo mo, Sorry. Butler think it is side, because Wesleyan student Zhang Yahao played FH from wide rightside, and ball hit side. But Umpire is the closest one to see that ball, so Umpire's say is final.
Most cheaters in serving are the higher levels in table tennis, because they think they are untouchables. But everytime I umpire, i don't give a damn who they are.. Some of these guys reach high levels and yet, they don't know how to serve properly?
Albert Garcia As umpire it’s also your job to understand the spirit of the rules. They are meant to establish a level playing field. If the violation isn’t giving the player a discernible advantage, and you still call it, you’re just being pedantic and contributing negatively to the competition and the sport.
In my last post, I typed mm. I meant cm. centimeters, not millimeteres. Bad metrics. That mistake is probably a fault, not just a let. Yellow card anyone?
According to the rules I've read, the ball must be tossed 16mm above the hand. Some of the faults looked like twice that. 16mm is just under 6-1/2 inches. I'm seeing over 1 foot. that's nearly 35mm. I just don't get it.
2:e Enoyed that he never tossed the ball RIGHT UP! 7:e one was just SAD! And that Tossup at 7.25 was like TWICE the hight you need to toss... The dude that serve right after toss the EXACT same distance from hand and nothing... 10.42. That was not an edge... He hit from the OUTSIDE of the table. It need to bounce UPWORDS if counted as an Edge from that point of impact. So sorry but Umpire WRONG :) Understand why he conplain I would do the same. And ask for a new Judge or refuse to play since umpire clearly don't know the rules. 13.10.. She call false on that but NOT the serve after that is ALOT worse :O That's just wierd... hahahaha 14.15. DID NOT NOW THAT! XD
The video quality is too bad to use any of the examples as prooves for correct decisions. Except maybe the bad wording or kicking the ball... ^^ It's hard to be at the empire's mercy: height of toss - I want to see if a ref can detect the difference between 15 (too low) or 16 (legal) height. Or hiding the ball when serving: when the ref cannot see the ball it doesn't necessarily mean that it was hidden to the other player. It's good to have the Hawkeye system at important events so players have the opportunity to challenge questionable decisions of the umpire. Honestly: using this video in this resolution for umpire training is borderline. Only of value to show how convinced the umpire is - and hinding how doubting he/she is in real.
All your points are valid, and WTT is trying to improve the system too. You might not know, but being umpire is very stressful, have to use his/her experience for some judgement too. And, whatever umpires can not see, they depend on Assistant Umpire to catch it. There is a reason to have umpires, you haven't seen some crazy players!

This is excellent and should be seen by every new umpire! Thanks.
6:40 it looked like the umpire flicked that dude off
People work long and hard to get proper serves. These guys should be called out.
Tbh the throw the ball almost straight up rules is unclear, for some umpire, a little curve is a problem, for some a big curve is ok

11:39 There's no slo-mo. The sequences are both ~13 seconds from service to end.

How many umpires supervises the table tennis match?
Can anyboody tell us with detail
Normally 2 on court. Principal Umpire and Assistant Umpire. And The Referee outside the court.

These are actually faults. There are cases where faults are called for obscure reasons, but in these cases, they are indeed legitimate faults.

Thus the rules said when umpire is in doubt shall give a warning, if it happened again shall give a fault.

You mean cm, not mm.
13:08 where can I watch the full game?
no I think the umpire faulted him because he served over the table
Still can't beat Ishikawa kasumi's umpire!
wait so u can't give a warning when the umpire knows its an illegal serve? wtf
the rule said when umpire is in doubt shall give a warning, but when umpire undoubtedly an illegal serve, a direct fault.
