Table tennis need better quality umpires | Umpire shouldn't ask player what the score is

- During the WTT Contender Taiyuan 2024, the chair umpires lost focus and didn't saw who won the point. She asked the player on court what is the score. I think this is shows the lack of professionalism of an umpire and this certainly needs to be improved in the future.

you are right they are decoration only , thanks god if they don't disturb the match...
Interesting topic. Hopefully, technology and VAR can help reduce umpire mistakes and also empower umpires to make decisions. They are very passive atm
I don't think table tennis umpires get paid enough if they even get paid to begin with. Even the players' prize money is being delayed you think they'll take umpires seriously?
I have noticed the same with you too! Thanks for point it out! We need capable umpires!
Honestly the umpire not knowing it's a best of 7 is kinda WTT's fault. It even happens to players. They should just make every match best of 7
Wholeheartedly agree with this one. Why can't they just stick with BO7 for every match? They have a different system for every tournament. For Smash BO7 start from the quarterfinals, Champions start from semifinals, Contenders and star contenders only start from finals and feeders are BO5 for every match. Even Hina Hayata thought she won in Saudi Smash and Manika thought she lost as well.
Anyone can miss an incident. It happens. But that particular incident is pretty awful. And yes, I'd agree with you in general, the umpiring standard needs to improve, and younger umpires should be favoured. I mean look at that relic there and no clue what the score is, she probably got lost on the way home
As an umpire, i found this topic really interesting. The umpire between the Malaysian and Chinese is really insane... Even at a regional level i've never seen something as crazy as this. Was he drunk or in a bad physical condition this day ? I have nothing against these mistakes but once you're a certain level or umpiring, some mistakes should never be seen to the international matches
What makes it even worse she should've known it was 15 - 15 even if she didn't see anything because if otherwise Ma and Lin would've congratulated themselves and walked over to the towels since the set would've been over at 16 - 14. In this particular case due to the scoreline she could've actually assumed it by looking at the players behavior after the point in other words and just acted as nothing is wrong. All empires use this trick in club leagues that sleep on the job which makes this scenario rather odd. I would've just put in 15 - 15 and played it off as if i saw Everything. :D
this's why i refuse when players ask me to count scores for them. bro i don't even know my own score when i'm playing 😂
create a compilation wideo of these controversial calls 🎉
omg so this was the moment i heard at the end of the stream!! i agree that the moment was unprofessional of the umpire, i was thinking, there's 2 of them...like why can't they rely on each other to keep score? that was such a high stakes moment to be distracting to the players, even calling WCQ by name too. LJK looks so cute here, like a lost little brother even though he's the older one 😂 i was so confused watching the live, seeing 15-14 yet the players went to towel off. love how the players are at the top of it, knowing the scores themselves, not even noticing that there was something wrong cause i myself lose count of my score at times 😂
Poor old gramps, he needed to be resting at home 😂
i think i had seen some hawkeye weird video of edge in an ITTF match today only, but idk which one, i was shocked that it existed i will send the video link asap
ITTF World Tour Grand Finals 2019 had VAR technology but surprisingly it was only implemented once and then never again.
@@pansarbobo7477 yep i remember
yeay they (umpires) are suck ngl, but to use the advanced technology also not suitable as table tennis is not a high return sports. athletes dont get paid properly let alone to invest in this stuff
Nice video
Omg Wang Chuqin Evil Moment 😢
but you can't make complain about something is really difficult to see. Afterall, Umpires still has the authority to call whether incident did happen or not. Don't accuse a player chuqin without evidence that he is not acknowledging edge ball, the ball may have touched the side only or chuqin is not sure either. It is upto the umpire to call it. Lin yunju is only questioning whether it touches, and he is on the opposite edge. It is a must, to use a camera in this case. If the player is unsure of a certain case; net ball, edge ball, don't blame the umpire not seeing it. Umpire often had to check with the players.
I don't think the video was blaming or accusing anyone. Like the WCQ example was used to explain why it is crucial for technology like VAR and video reviews to be introduced into the sport ASAP to prevent of this difficulty to see situation from happening. The VAR can prove once and for all who is right and who is wrong without needing to continue the argument.
maybe they just attended a brief umpire 101 seminar 😂
Agreed
The umpire should play mahjong at the end of their age.. hahah
