Idk why they sounded like that. But I saw them at warped tour and they were fucking amazing. Kellin apologized bc they didn't sound so good,they haven't play live in a long time, but everyone said they were awesome and they were. Maybe it's just one of those bad performances.

It's probably because all of the rich kids with the cool phones got VIP tickets so they got to the front, but spent most of the time videoing the performance rather than singing along. Leaving all the people who did want to sing and be energetic, at the back, where the mic can't pick up as much sound. :3

Kellin was most likely drunk, or was having issues with his vocal chords. He sounds amazing in concert, just not here. This performance doesn't describe who he is, he is better than this, so stop the criticism.

Singing that high isn't easy and requires full focus or it gets fucked up, and he was drunk/pretty high of narcotics(no one know for sure), and those drugs affect your senses and you can't focus on things.
But even with all that shit he still tried to go to the end, and that's an honor that only a few have.

Honestly, Kellin tried his best. Why are you guys even hating on him? At least he didn't fucking lip sync like Selena Gomez. the fact that he can still hit high notes even when he performs live means that he doesn't use a lot of autotune so that his voice will sound totally different. Overall, I think this performance was okay considering the amount of effort and energy that was needed to sing the 'I-' part in the chorus. In the end, you can tell that Kellin was getting tired from his voice, but still loved the performance. Great job Sleeping With Sirens & MGK.
The crowd was still depressing like when they sang If You Cant Hang. And Kellins voice sounds so different :( i think the problem is the microphone. And it seems that kellin was a bit sick, he didnt stop tapping his chest. They didnt perform in a year, and after 1 year without performing, now is like they are performing their first concert ever.

Mgk stays hyped and energetic even if this song wasn't so "heavy or hardcore" instead "soft" he gives one hell of a performance. Same does Kellin. He did good , gave it his all. When he did them vocals it looked like it was too out of breath but still did good no matter what anyone says. I saw him live and he performed PERFECTLY.

Idk if any of you have been in the studio but being in the studio is not a constant stream of singing like at a concert like you literally work on one song and different harmonies that aren't as hard to sing... So don't say that a studio is anything like a concert

If Kellin is going to keep singing like this, he needs constant vocal lessons. I understand he does warm ups before shows but that's not enough. He was so off key and definitely ran out of breath multiple times. He has the potential to sound amazing live, and it's no disrespect to him, he just needs to do a few things to fix his vocals up live.

Whatever you opinion is on this performance, it's just funny how when people say someone sucked live, you get people making up random excuses for them that they may or may not be able to prove. "He/she was sick", "They were drunk", "You try touring for months on end and singing every day of your life", "He just threw up". Are we serious right now? People have bad days and/or some people just aren't as good live as their studio recording, it's just fact. There isn't a need to inflate the reasoning as to why they're not on par.

This gives me a lot of respect for MGK because I honestly didn't like him since the only song I heard was his recent one with Camila Cabello but after knowing how involved he is with Warped Tour and this kind of music, it makes me respect him a lot.

Just throwing this out there for the pulled back mic on screams. Check out live videos of any metal, screamo or whatever band that doesn't use a processor on the vocals. Just about all of them have some technique of pulling the mic away as they scream because at a live show where your physically pretty maxed.
And this is also a little personal experience from my own punk rock band way back in the day although as vocals/rhythm guitars our style and my vocals at the time were closer to thrice and rise against so my singing was constantly strained and gritty escalating to shouts but rarely the outright screams these bands and their genre "screamo" are known for. Point being we played a lot of live shows, mostly house shows few at the local club, but when ur vocally maxing out pulling the mic from you as your sound fades helps it fade natural sounding especially if you can't hold as long as you can in studio when conditions are ideal and relaxed.
So most screamers did this slow pull with the mic from their mouth each time so it becomes ingrained because the last thing u want ppl to hear at the end of your scream or whatever is your voice giving out in a crack , shriek etc. cause that happens and it's not pretty and hard to come back from if everyone hears that loud as shit live with the mic touching ur lips. See where I'm going? You can minimize that risk and exert more control over what's heard that you're putting out plus when he and anyone sings softly they can hold the mic as close as can be but screaming into a mic that close does not sound great , I don't know why it's not that it's too loud it's just that it's such a controlled sound and isn't technically singing so doesn't follow all those rules, feedback, resonance, amplification are all gonna distort with a scream right into a mic try it if you have the time/ opportunity its interesting what it does to your voice, people think it just makes it louder, but there's a lot more to it then that.
for example for kicks I took a 1 on 1 vocal class in college cause like most vocalists in that scene (we'll just pop the umbrella of the label indie rock over it all. To avoid getting mired in the oh so important labels) had no formal training. Well my instructor was a super over qualified opera singer that had been on various recordings none of us have heard of. She was also relatively young passionate attractive and inspiring so perfect instructor right?. (No I did not crush on her, we flirted a little maybe...)
Well knowing my reasons for seeking some classical techniques or understandings of singing being my own role in singing in various "Indie rock". Bands she had me sing a bit from a piece I wrote for piano. So I could play and sing for her right there etc. she was really into until I hit the intense high end for a part of the chorus, now mind u this wasn't yelling or screaming, it's that pitch singers hit that's just shy of breaking into scream territory. Some artists are incredible at it and sing entire songs on that edge. Dashboard confessionals older stuff and the quite underground band he sung for before going solo called "further seems forever". Come to mind. Listen to dashboards "again I go unnoticed" and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about , he sings on that tense pre scream pitch for just about the entire song except for the bridge where he gets quieter.
Anyways my song where I sing like that she interrupted and like dead serious "I will murder you I'm not shitting you" eyes told me never to make that sound with my voice again before I could interject she said she could literally hear the vibrating tissue and tendons? Whatever... aka vocal cords tearing while I sung which prompted a snort and laugh from me which I tried to stifle when I saw her face. I pointed out a handful of bands that sung with similar techniques and she 1. said that's not singing (classically trained what do you expect oh but it was a wonderful thing when she mocked Britney spears nasal style that she imitated perfectly) and 2. said they'll be lucky to be able to reach middle C after 15 years of that. I almost responded with punk rocks mantra carpe Fukin diem but didn't see that going anywhere productive. So just shrugged and continued minus that pitch at that part of the song, she wanted me to hit it falsetto, show me how to transition which I appreciated, but she was missing the point, falsetto has its place, but it wasn't in my song. And maybe i missed hers, which is the kind of strained at the seams "again i go unnoticed" singing doesn't ever have its place. Agree to disagree. I've torn my throat enough hitting shouts/screams back in the day and I can quote Op Ivy's manifesto "no band is greater than the scene it represents" but I digress, again and again.
In fact the singer of the above band uses a type of falsetto also used by coheed and cambria wikpedia it or something its quite interesting because its using the nasal passage to attain the range, but still straining the throat so it sounds thick (relative to falsetto). In the classics its a rarely used technique kind of baritone to tenor , is this to falsetto. Range isn't quite as high and that's because you're not using just your head voice which is relatively effortless. Tangents and Tangents wow, sorry to anyone still reading.
So not to start another tangent, who am I kidding this whole post is tangents strung together and if 1 person makes it through the whole post ur awesome cause I don't know if my a.d.d would let me.
Anyways speaking of dashboard another example would be the band he was in prior to going solo(and calling it dashboard to be artsy or something, not talkin shit *hands raised*, bein funny and for any haters of dashboard, I'm not a fan but I will say this I saw that kid play at downtown Richmond va club twisters , opening for some punk show or whatever and the kid gets booed and keeps playing his songs and that wasn't once but several shows and he kept at it.
Obviously it's paid off but he earned my sustained respect if not fandom for enduring that (people endure taking shit and stuff all the time and not letting it affect them. But having something you've poured your heart and soul - hell everything you have -into. And have the balls to expose that to people you know won't receive it well (he's opening for a punk band playing acoustic love songs) that belittled, heckled and booed to your face, that's a little different especially if ur alone with a guitar and no band-mates to back you up/ take the punishment with you. But don't worry even though he was just starting out it wasn't long before he had a hypersensitive hyper protective legion of girl fans at his shows (and some boys too, guess they were just cautious to come out of the dashboard closet until they had more support) that looked murder at any naysayers to the point where they're stopped being any. That and he earned legitimate respect from self proclaimed bad ass hardcore/ punk rock types because how can you not respect that after the third or fourth show in the same tiny dingy club receiving the same abuse regardless of what headliner band vouched for them.
Anyways prior to dashboard he sung for a band called "further seems forever" long enough to release a single album called "the moon is down" and that album may very well be the finest example of musicianship indie rock/emo (before the dreaded/flaunted label "emo" was hijacked by a flood of pop punk bands crying (screaming is still crying depending on the subject matter) over mean girlfriends or nice ones they cheated on and slowing their tempo so they could draw out their crying more. I'm looking at you "taking back Sunday". Yes, you can call me a hypocrite as I'm at a band's you tube you could call a descendant of what Thursday and taking back sunday started but it comes with the territory when you're a music lover of some kind. (see what I did there? no shit talking to Thursday ... even though you could argue Sunday was a better band, but Thursday felt more honest and sincere and sung about Paris in Flames and Jet Blacks new years day. Tell me those songs don't strike a chord Sunday's cotton candy has yet to. Pun not intended... I don't think.
And many actual critics, not rambling u tube posters like myself, have credited that album *The Moon is Down* as being the most complete most perfect album and representation of that scene of that time way back before emo was a buzz word. I'm not even sure if the band considered themselves emo or if the scene did, we're talking around the birth of that genre so for a time no one knew what it was just, just some kids in texas screaming out their "emotions" in a reactionary movement to hardcore (post harcores?) politics and lack of well... feelings. So with bands that kinda broke the mold a bit they were just thrown under the go-to umbrella label of "rock n roll" can't go wrong calling a band with mean tempo changes creative base (doing something other then tracing the rhythm guitar chords) and heartfelt vocals that didn't make your ears bleed if nothing else its rock n roll right?: like hot water music and we loved it. You could almost say *the get up kids* (the sexual implication of their band name completely lost on me at that time) did for emo what's saves the day did for what pop punk bands that didn't wanna be Greenday
(nothing against Greenday their story is heartbreaking and even if their music gives me a headache I fucking love the guys who weren't welcome in their hometown for selling too many records and "selling out" because their brand of punk rock didn't fit with their scenes which was indulged by said scene until the records started going platinum and they even tried to harder on their follow up album for their scene and it got them more sales and more hate, not gonna lie the scene can be vicious, sometimes with reason sometimes without (at least a good one)) and wanted to dabble in this emo thing. Maybe it wasn't post then it was present hardcore lol, what do I know I'm 32 now. And not that hardcore or any of its off shoots aren't great but saves the day was a breathe of fresh air playing in a show with the bands hot water music back when they were amazing fuel for the hate game/Alachua era and strike anywhere who've always been amazing political punk rock/hardcore (whoever doesn't like strike anywhere must strangle puppies and drown cats in their free time cause they're amazing and their front man Thomas is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet) Yes... they're also from my hometown and I was at their first official show. What a show and we can go from rocking out/ hardcore dancing to the gleeful abandon of saves the day front mans opening melody of through being cool. Good times good times ... Musta been 15,16 years ago. I was 16 at the show so that adds up ... I think also best show I ever went to. Strike Anywhere, Hot Water Music in their prime when they still had voices and Saves the Day. Fukin awesome...
For anyone interested in hearing the only thing you could probably find today that was considered emo like original emo back in the day when the term was born (besides the album just listed "the moon is down") Would be "the get up kids". They're kind of responsible for bringing emo from a sub sub sub culture to more popular subculture that gets radio play from time to time. And to be fair they were considered pop emo, but emo nonetheless so for anyone interested in the genres roots check out the get up kids first lp and ep they get weird with synths more whine less rock in later later albums. First full length is "4 minute mile" and first ep is "Woodson" I believe which is also my favorite song of theirs.
Which brings us back to This band, but since I already made that initial point... I think It really doesn't bring us back anywhere it just ends.

I hate to say this, but Kellin didn't do good on this performance. I actually ripped my earphones out of my ears because it sounded so bad... Don't get me wrong, Kellin is an amazing singer and I'm a huge SWS fan, and I love Kellin's voice, but, if it's not good, it's not good. He didn't do it good on If you can't hang, either. But that doesn't mean Kellin is a bad singer, he just had a bad day, everybody has. He's only a human being, ok? He's allowed to do something wrong.
On the other hand, MGK was amazing on this performance.

The audience was so sleepy LOL, Kells was so up and they were so down.
Not their best performance. The whole night seemed to be filled with technical difficulties (MGK's mic...) and awkward moments in general... oh well, this was the first APMAs
He lost his voice lots of times but I will always live and support him
I've seen SWS live, and been lucky enough to meet them, and they sounded fab, so Kellin is obviously sick.
It was just one of those shows where things don't have the right chemistry. He seemed to have a hard time hitting the notes and the mix was way off. but they are still tight and I have seen this performed live and it was done well. Great band.
To me I liked this performance it may not be his best but I liked it and like he apologized for not being the best he was sick alright
kellin can't sing nor scream anymore. what a shame that playback was really evident
