Is for Digital Audio could have used more ram but is all good. Witcher 3 and a few games still hold my interest. But saved $450 from above price and got an extra inch in screen size. The 4080 with 12GB was far more costly, and their highest end was nearly $2000 more with a 4090 with 16GB and 64GB RAM or go with a Titan.
I actually owned the GE78HX for all but a few days. Basically the bigger brother of this laptop. Initial impressions were not great, the box it comes in is super basic compared to similar priced Asus models, but whatever. The backlight bleed was instantly noticeable the second you turned the laptop on. Bottom right corner was glowing brighter than the rest. (many other reviewers had this issue) And the screen included just seemed to have huge sync issues to the point every game had frametime issues but fps was fine. (no g-sync either so can't test if this would fix it) MSI software/firmware is totally broken, the MSI centre feels extremely laggy and takes several seconds to respond to input, putting the laptop in anything over "Silent" mode caused performance to DROP. Also the laptop would just generally freeze and lock up during regular use. The 4080 in it felt like a minor upgrade over the 2060 in my Lenovo. Returned and cannot recommend MSI laptops to anyone.

This is a suped-up Vector on the MS-15M1 motherboard. The BIOS updates that MSI sends out, they come with a Release Notes text file that says this BIOS update is for a Raider. It can sometimes be difficult finding truthful information about these laptops, and i think it's because they are basically the same laptop but the Raider gets upgraded parts for an extra $400-700. Even the listings on MSI's own product page are confusing, because it claims that a Vector GP68HX 13v is available with the top-of-the-line i9-13980HX (which has a special extra 20W boost) but I could never find one available. The Raider GE68HX does come with this CPU though and I think adding 20W of additional boost on top of all the other types if Intel boost, that should make some noticeably impressive power.
I have the slightly older GE 66 with a 12700H and 3070 Ti from earlier in 2022 than the GE 67 HX and I still think that the upgrade is not as good as it could be, especially when it comes to the GPU.

Hey Jarrod. Should alot of people be concerned with gaming recent demand hike in Vram? I say this because I'm concerned if laptops with like 6 gb of vram will become obsolete faster than expected, especially for those who got them more recently and want to play the newer big titles. 8 Vram is what most are expecting now but I'm scared devs might push 10 in the next couple of years. 8 is the expected minimum now. CPUs don't seem to be the bottleneck but the Vram might be. I also say this because I have a gen 7(2022) Legion 5 pro with rtx 3060. I meet the requirements for alot of games for CPU and ram but the minimum is 8 vram and I'm wondering if I could still play them at solid rates. Maybe higher TGP and wattage helps this but it's still crazy. I'm just concerned because the Vram needed in these new games are getting out of hand and it might be getting out of hand for people who need Vram and power in other areas aside from gaming as well. This could also apply for people still getting 3000 series laptops as well. Maybe this could be a video
@@Solokid404 if anyone has the budget to pay for 12gbb vram or more graphic with same performance, he-she should buy it but if it's not affordable for them to buy, hey must accept whatever card is within their budget & lower their settings. intel graphics seems playable after driver updates according to the last video of linustechtips which has 12gb vram. 2nd hand hardware with vram over 12gb must also be considered for those users to let them be more future proof..

Nvidia 40 series has some large issues (burning cables, death by Hogwarts, low mobile performance) in general, but then their extremely expensive. I Would wait for the Ti and see if they could improve. Or maybe RDN3 or RDN4 is much better?
Only 4070 below are not great in performance, though. 4080 and 4090 laptop gpu are generational improvement from ampere. 3090 and 3080 desktop card performance are insane TbH.
"Low mobile performance" should be read as "dishonest mobile part naming". Every single mobile part is based on the desktop part a tier below it's name. Therefore, the laptop 4090 is really an 4080, the laptop 4080 is really a 4070, and the laptop 4070 is really a 4060. This has the unfortunate side effect of meaning that the lowest tier mobile part which actually has enough VRAM for modern games at 1440p is the very expensive "4080"
@@madcrowmaxwell absolutely agree, this is just dishonesty for the sake to fuck the customers. 3060 laptop was 20% slower than it's desktop counterpart, which meant they actually can name it right. but no.. they can't fill desktop tier 3090 so they stretch the GPUs which should've been tier below to fill that TOTL which they can't engineered or physicly impossible to make.

Well three weeks ago July 01, 2023 got the 17.3" version QHD+ 240Hz Laptop, i9-13950HX, RTX 4070 (8GB), 32GB DDR5 (only 4000), 2TB NVMe SSD, Thunderbolt 4, USB-C, Win 11 Pro was the MSI 13VG-020US for $2099 with no taxes delivered.
(many other reviewers had this issue)
And the screen included just seemed to have huge sync issues to the point every game had frametime issues but fps was fine. (no g-sync either so can't test if this would fix it)
MSI software/firmware is totally broken, the MSI centre feels extremely laggy and takes several seconds to respond to input, putting the laptop in anything over "Silent" mode caused performance to DROP.
Also the laptop would just generally freeze and lock up during regular use. The 4080 in it felt like a minor upgrade over the 2060 in my Lenovo.
Returned and cannot recommend MSI laptops to anyone.
I got this model at costco on sale for $1600, when i looked at other places online for it they were all several hundred dollars more expensive at least, so i got it since i've been using the same inspiron 15 7000 gaming laptop since 2016 and its got a cracked screen and keys that stick and i felt it was just time for a new one. i haven't opened it and started using it yet, but i think that i got a pretty good bang for my buck at least since online i can only find it for over $2000

This model seems to be part of Costco's gaming pc sale for $1599 - at that price does it become a no brainer over the Legion Pro i7 4080 (2023) at $2,299? But what about the GE68 4060 at $1,599 vs the Legion Pro 5i 16IRX8 4070 at $1,699?
It's $1499 at my Costco. At that price, it makes sense.

Got one at Costco with the refresh i9 14900HX, 32gb Ram, RTX 4070 on sale for 1299.99. The trade off however was the screen. The costco version has a 1080p 144hz with terrible color accuracy and light bleed.
Hey Jarrod, are you planning on reviewing the Omen 17 with the RTX4070 (or even any version of this year's Omen 17). I'm planning on buying something soon and the Omen 17 is the cheapest 4070 equipped laptop where I live and it comes at the same price as another laptop but with a 3070Ti.

typing this on my GE68 with an I9 13980HX and 4070, 2tb 16GB of RAM. Have been using it for a couple of months and I`m just so glad I bought it. the big centre placed touch pad + the numlock was a gamechanger for me as well has having the 16:10 screen. Was looking for a laptop with a centre placed macbook like touchpad + numlock, which is also able to run 99% games at good settings along with a lasting CPU for other purposes. This thing will definitely last me some years of quality computing :). A lenovo Legion would be my second choice, would probably be the best bang for your buck laptop for everyone else as well but I just had some personal preferences the GE68 Raider was more suited for.

The most ridiculous thing I met with laptop from msi ge 66 2022 with 3070ti was availability of 2 type-c ports, but noone of both could be used for charging device. So type-c charge is privilege of way more expensive options. But one of type-c is thunderbolt 4
@I killed that beard guy no, i tried. It doesn't work. I even asked support. They said that my option doesn't support charging. There is no any information about charging through type-c on official site

Quiet idle fans
Fan settings MSI Center
Features Tab, User Scenario
Go to the Extreme Box, click on settings cog
Select the advanced box
Fan Speed Tab
on Fan 1 drag 2nd circle from left or 2nd highest circle down to about 36%
On Fan 2 set about 43%
On Fan 2 raise 1st on far left to about 12%
Then save
At ambient room about 70deg the CPU temp should drop from 120deg to 113deg
Fan 2 should be spun up a bit from previous zero, Fan 1 should drop to about 2100 and much quieter
Basically Fan 1 is spinning all the time too high, so slow it down and run both.
Fan 2 wasn’t even running at idle. It should now run 500-1200 at idle and much quieter

This will be answered in an upcoming Q&A video with hardware unboxed on this channel.
