this is not a light sonata especially for a 7th grade child. I know this sonata is playing at the conservatory even at high school. I'm doing it right now
There are no particular novel aspects in his interpretation. I am afraid, Dinu Lipattis old recording of this masterpiece stands unique in its singularity and legendary musicianship. His fingers simply let the music flow, naturally, aristocratically, dramtically , and simply in a fascinating fashion of divine artistry, providing the sensation that this is THE way it should be interpreted. I am not saying, of course, that this legendary recording should be copied or imitated; I am saying that no pianist so far has matched Lipatti's level of artistry (apart... perhaps... from another legendary pianist: Emil Gilels)...
Disagree, Lipatti's performance will not come even close to this, heard, I know that performance very well, 100% disagree!!! But you got right to have your opinion about which we disagree and one more thing, Fingers do not let the music flow, it comes from the head and hearing!!!
The first movement strangely lacks drama; I say strangely because drama is Sokolov's stock in trade. It sounds like a 'technical rehearsal'. And that coy ending is simply bizarre! The second movement is almost prettified and even the finale sounds 'functional', and again, why end mf?? As for the constant rustling of newpapers or whatever it is ... Most disappointing. Now going to listen to Ms Novistkaya ... Thanks for posting!
Joseph, so good that we do not share your opinion with 100%. Whatever you wrote is "drama" for you!!! bizarre, technical and the rest. In this terrible epoh for the classical music where there is complete absense of serious and clever audiences and there is show businesses made out of classical music, sokolov is a priceless dimond!!! Legend already alive!!! You write whatever you want, this is an amazing performance and your opinions only makes you look strange!!! Today there are no better musicians than Sokolov and Zimerman! Sorry, you are talking about geniuse's one of the excellent performances!!!
Excellent assessment. D'accordo. I'd add: synthetic interpretation, inhibitting the natural flow of the stream with some odd attempts to divert its path. The changing dynamics and use of diminuendos are unusual but a matter of gusto. Light-years away from legendary performances of Dinu Lipatti and Emil Gillels (on an old original, hard to detect, Russian Label) which I adore and admire for their timelessness and their sincere and profound understanding of the score and its composer .
@@rubensiedner4584 I grew up in Russia and perfetcly know all of those recordings. Also I grew up on Emil Gilels's live performances. All I can say is that Sokolov's this performances stands out as brilliant. Whatever you are writing does not make sense for any performance on this earth as they are not expressed professionally, but when they are pointed towards Sokolov, then it becomes so funny that the best way is to ignore. Anyway, you can write your opinions about Argerich, she sure plays Bach and Mozart terribly but Sokolov's sound in impaccable, second movement is jaw dropping, so good luck, write and write!!! When people can not come close to Sokolov's genius, then thats all they can do!!! Write whatever!!!
Brilliant performance!!! Always coming back!!!

I LIKE EKATERINA NOVITSKAYA PLAYING THIS MOZART 310 SONATA MORE THAN THE GIANT OF THE PIANO GRIGORY SOKOLOV
d2d4e6 vous n'y comprenez décidément rien!Sokolov est le plus grand de la terre.
heard novitskaya, very good, different, but I like Sokolov much more and are you Laredo?
