  • Driving down to Bahía de Los Ángeles has been a bucket list fishing trip of mine for a long long time! Fishing aboard the Tony Reyes Mothership was an amazing trip and a great way to get my feet wet in the Sea of Cortez.
    Actually staying in a small fishing village and seeing the culture first hand is a whole different experience!
    From the road trip there, to the scenery, the amazing food, and everything that comes with the journey there! The incredible fishing, is just a bonus!
    Such a fun day of fishing with Captain Joel Jr for Cabrilla and Yellowtail!
    Ended up running into a handful of decent stops for yellowtail fishing on surface irons and stickbaits!
    Broke my PB with my first fish of the day with a 14.5 lb Cabrilla.
    Can't believe this was only day 1 on the Panga, and we had a full 2 more days of panga fishing to look forward to! Can't wait to see what else is in store for us on this little trip to Los Angeles Bay!

    The fishing look bomb 💣 there. Micro bait is a common thing. Elephants eat peanuts 🥜

      They really key in on micro baits out there!
      Elephants do indeed eat peanuts.

    What month was this, and where exactly in BOLA was it? Were you at the offshore islands?
    This place is awesome, ive been out here a few times, and we killed the yellows. We got em down in 300ft of water though, not surface fish.

      Not sure where exactly, as this was the first time I ever fished out of BOLA.
      I do recall us being coastal though, and it was in May.
      Surface yellows throughout Baja, usually May and June are pretty good months. Even July too, but july could end up being a yoyo bite based on temperature

    Do you have any tips on guiding the braid onto the reel my braid keeps cutting into my thumb when leveling it back in

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  7 месяцев назад +1

      Maybe don’t apply as much pressure. You just need to direct the line by touch really, shouldn’t be applying any kind of real pressure.
      Only time I’ve had any kind of cutting into my thumb was from applying too much pressure during a fight.

    How do you suggest I set up my reel for a first time baitcasting? I bought a tranx500 and Trinidad 20a for Black Friday to pair up with my UC reaper E9 rod.

    • @miguelh3940
      @miguelh3940 8 месяцев назад +1

      I have my tranx topped off with 80lb PP my Trini 20 80lb pp with room for 75yrds of mono

      @Dirty.Hookers  8 месяцев назад

      If you plan on casting your tranx 500 at foaming bluefin, I’d definitely fill it up with 80#.
      If you don’t plan to fish foamers, but wanna do surface irons, snipers, and poppers I’d go 65# braid.
      If you do Power Pro Maxcuatro, 80# will maybe get about 180+ yds.
      65# maxcuatro, maybe about 350+ yds

    Did you guys use the daiwa lexa TW?
    It is a bit smaller than the lexa so i am wondering if I should use it for yellowtail

    • @BananaAfterlife
      @BananaAfterlife 8 месяцев назад +2

      300 and 400 sizes are good enough for yellows IMO

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  8 месяцев назад

      @Halibuto yeah that was the lexa TW 400. The TW is much smaller and compact than the previous lexas, but still has same size spools and gives off same amount of power.
      Definitely capable of yellowtail!

    What clamp is on your saltiga?

      @Dirty.Hookers  8 месяцев назад

      Steel Baits tell clamp. Most comfortable aftermarket clamp I’ve used so far
