One of the best comedies ever on our screens,i remember watching it when i was a teenager with my parents,i wonder how many comedies today are watched by young and old ? i cant even titter at todays comedy,pc has killed good saucy yet clean fun.
I love this programme..i avidly watch it again all these years later..daily..takes me back to a happy time..brilliant..sad about richard..larry and yootha..please don.t let anyone remake this..it would ruin it....thanks..Ruth
Yeah and do you know why. Beacuse our actors were much better than your crappy knockoffs. The yankee shite was so unfunny and unrelatable with everyday life in the 70s. The actors in that knockoff show is fake and shite! Theres so much slap stick everywhere! I dont know why threes company was a big hit there! Thank god the crappy spinoff the ropers failed on its arse! While the original and much better spin off geogre and mildred was a big hit! And so it should be!
Me too. I'm currently re-watching it, (as I do pretty much every year!) Although I tend to not watch the final episode as it does my head in and I'm gutted for Robin!
Watching re-runs of MATH on ITV3. Such wonderful memories of these fresh-faced actors, and Paula Wilcox and Sally Thomsett have aged so gracefully. An iconic 70s comedy classic, alongside the hilarious spin-off, George and Mildred. How is it that 50 years ago, unlike now, women could be graceful and feminist at the same time?
This most have been recorded quite a few years ago, I've seen a more recent interview with Sally thomsett and sadly along with Richard o'sullivan she seemed to of aged quickly in a short space of time.
Back in early eighties, very lucky to take picture of the Thames tv studios in Euston rd with original capital radio tower next door, one place of tv comedy history
This show, On The Buses, Dad's Army, Fawlty Towers, Reggie Perrin, Sykes, etc etc etc.........just how spoiled for choice were we back in the 70s! And compare it to the arid wasteland of today.....
Just finished watching all of Man About The House (except for the movie which I might watch next). Cannot decide if I want to move onto Robin's Nest but will give George & Mildred a miss. What would have been cool is if Chrissy or Jo had gotten spin-off series too.
In the opening, O’Sullivan rides a motor scooter. You can tell he has never ridden one. He is pushing one, he releases the handle thus engages the clutch, and the manual transmission catches the dead motor. The end-produce is a rocking scooter!
The lovely Sally Thomsett. She's quite a lovely person. I'm a friend of hers on Twitter. I've always adored her, although I like Paula Wilcox too. :)As an American I have to say that 'Three's Company' wasn't half as good as 'Man About the House.' For the record both spin-offs resulted in American remakes. 'George & Mildred' was remade as 'The Ropers' and 'Robin's Nest' was remade as 'Three's a Crowd.'
Really, you had American versions of these classic old Brit-coms? I justcan't see American style of humour translating from our British originals. Our shows back then relied on a lot of sexual innuendo's. And from what Ihave read, the big US Networks back then were very strict on what couldbe said or done on shows made for tv. Here in Britain, we always had amore liberal approach to what we were allowed to see. Not so much thesedays of Political Correctness, which in my opinion, has killed off comedy.
I've seen both and I can say that for men studying English American option is much more understandable. First time I couldn't get a word when seing MAH despite of all the Friends show behind my back
Así que usted (Brian Cooke) fue el responsable de que Chrissy se casara con aquel tipo alto, elegante y lastimosamente educado. Odié el final durante años. Robin y Chris estaban hechos el uno para el otro. ¡¡ Comedia extraordinaria !!
Richard O'Sullivan was a brilliant comedy actor, not many could be accepted as an unlikeable character "Bingham" in Doctor series, then as the loveable "Robin" here and the dashing "Dick Turpin" later. As a teenager at the time of the show, my favourite character was Larry, sad to see Doug Fisher passed away in 2000.
it's funny, i do remember watching this when i was still primary school age, and nothing seemed particularly riské about the living situation to me, although it may have have been for the older adults, like your grandparents 😄 Richard was a good looking guy. i wasn't much of a fan of Robin's Nest though in the 80s
Yes, it's mandatory to give "Acknowledgment" when a Show is the inspiration for another Show. For example, All In The Family was based on the UK Sitcom Till Death Do Us Part, Too Close For Comfort was inspired by Keep It In The Family and What's Happening was inspired by The Movie Cooley High that one Critic called The Black American Graffitti.
This from Wikipedia: The show [Three's Company] has been in local syndication since 1982 (ABC aired back-to-back repeats during daytime in the summer of 1981) on local stations such as WNEW-TV in New York City and the sales on the project realized more than $150 million of which Thames (the studio that produced "Man Of the House") took 12.5% ($19 million).
+Maurice Upton Sadly, years of heavy drinking caught up with O'Sullivan and he suffered a debilitating stroke some years back. He now lives in a retirement home for former film and television performers. It's quite a lovely place. You would have serious difficulty recognizing him nowadays. He looks, walks and acts like a man in his eighties.
There are pictures of him in 2009 just after his stroke, (wearing a black jumper and jogging bottoms, using a walking stick), I'm pretty sure they were the last photographs taken of him. The poor guy is probably unrecognizable these days.

Great classic comedy. The 1970s had the best writers! Wish I was back there now, it was the best time ❤️💕
I've watched the movie today in honour for Sally Thomsett as it's her 70th birthday today, Happy Birthday, Sally! :) x

Yes i agree, leave these shows for the classics they were. They already tried to remake porridge and open all hours it was awful.
As an American I just found out our show Three's Company evolved from this show. I love it. The Roper landlords here are hysterical.

Best. Show. Ever. Its spin off George and Mildred was even better.
There is Poop on my Lollipop lol that doesn’t make sense ! contradicting yourself :)
The Ropers had a spin off from Three's Company too. I love it!
It’s a great show . Perfectly cast. WITTY and of course politically incorrect in some ways and that’s why I also love it . Life was simpler then!
So true 👏🙂👏
Richard O Sullivan was Gorgeous in this
sally thomsett back then..................oh yes gorgeous.
One of my favourite comedy's
Paula is so beautiful

Fantastic memories
Wow Paula Wilcox has aged well
Happy, happy days.
The two in one sitcom.😁
This was a fun show & it spun off Robins Nest & George & Mildred.

George and Mildred is funny u should watch it
Thought George and Mildred was better than both really funny show that was.

I'm currently re-watching the complete series box-set for the umpteenth time and have only just lately noticed the juddering scooter!
Paula Wilcox was so utterly delicious in this...!
She certainly was.
Beauty must say so was other lady fit blonde women back then nicer than ones today by far
Amazing

It's hard to believe that this was The Show that would be the inspiration for Three's Company.
A delightfully funny show.
I live in the USA this is one of my favorite shows.
When this programm was released? The girls are absolutaly recognizable' especially Sally.
1st series was recorded in 1973.

Did Three's Company ever give any credit to Man About The House?
