Yootha Joyce was such a gifted actress.
Real life for Yootha, who gave so much joy, wasnt so bright. Which is a great shame, yet for all of us who watched her, will never forget her! Rip YJ❤⭐️🇬🇧

Yootha was the best for the role in both Man About the House and George and Mildred. No one wouldve done better. Its just a shame that her character was a misandrist who felt good about belittling her husband. Would love to see a sitcom with the roles reversed and see how far it got.

I worked in the early 70’s at the then Thames Television in Teddington Lock on programmes such as Magpie, Paperplay with Itsy & Bitsy, Rock Follies, Quick On The Draw (with the now tainted Rolf Harris) and this programme. And l can honestly say Yootha Joyce and Brian Murphy were truly lovely humble
    people ❤️
The girls at that time were in their primes so were a bit up their own oneness and Richard O’ Sullivan was mostly quiet and never said much at all

At junior school in the days these series were shown. Perhaps the best ITV comedies on at the time. The "Doctors" series the best before that along with "On the Buses". "Robins Nest" was O'Sullivans other best series in the late '70's. Sally Thomsett perhaps the most attractive British actress on tv at the time. "George and Mildred" another classic, Mildred not someone to mess with. Admit I did not realise that were adapted for US TV. Great memories all the same.

Sally Thomsett didn’t play an intelligent character in Man about the house, quite the opposite! It was sad that Youtha Joyce died a lonely alcoholic but Brian Murphy remained her one true friend right until the end, he was the only one at the hospital with her when she died.

My family home was next door to Brian Murphy's house, in Caversham near Reading Berks, he was a notorious local alcoholic, often staggering around near the Church Street shopping area and making a nuisance of himself in the off license. He was regularly brought home by the police, and my Father once found Brian upside down in a garden bush next to our greenhouse, with urine and faeces trousers. Although I must say, that during periods of sobriety, Brian was the finest fellow you could ever have the pleasure of meeting.

There are so many incorrect facts in this video, so it's a thumbs down from me. 0:42 - Man About The House wasn't made in the 60's it started in 1973. 1:05 - Doctor in the House isn't a drama it's a sitcom and started in 1971 so BEFORE Man About the House. 1:27 he wasn't in Carry on Loving, I think you've mixed up Richard O'Sullivan with Richard O'Callaghan whose name appears in that poster you're showing. Richard O'Sullivan was in Carry on Teacher in 1959 but NOT in Carry on Loving, this is probably why he did a DVD commentary 1:49 for Carry on Teacher and that's the one he was actually in.

Surprised you didn't mention Robin's Nest, that ran for 6 series after O'Sullivan left MATH. Also Dick Turpin was successful for him. A family friend worked at Thames and knew the cast, he said they were all nice although Paula was more quiet than the others. Nobody guessed Yootha had a drink problem. He was also very fond of Tony Britton, George Layton and David Kelly from Robin's Nest. The press were causing O'Sullivan and Tessa Wyatt a lot of stress, they only came out as a couple when she was pregnant with their baby. A lot of Spanish media were interested in MATH and the spin offs and the cast were often invited to Spain.
