Captain hears Towser down from Withermarsch in London. So he wakes Sgt. Tibs to go get the Colnel. (The only one in the barking range!) They found out it was 15 spotted puppies stolen. Buy the DVD here:

Always loved how, in this dog-centric movie, the sole cat is such a great little guy.
In the live action version “Sargent Tibbs” is a dog named Kipper who gets all of the puppies out of the mansion
@@LucyLovettLestrangeand it’s funny because we still see Sargent tibbs as a cat still in the live action film too
@@johnmichael2692 Really? I don’t ( recall). Been awhile since ive seen the 1996 version
@@johnmichael2692 Really? Where? I don't remember seeing a cat in the live action version...
1:49 I've always liked this scenic background. Beautiful animation.
Yeah, those backgrounds are among my favorite ever too; it perfectly captures the beauty and the peace of rural meadows at night. iirc Ernest Nordli was the main man behind that particular style. He did some great stuff for Chuck Jones too, even if more surreal.
me as a kid: "oh, some dogs barking!"
me, as an adult: "oh, some war veterans sharing coded messages!"
.....gotta love disney XD
same here
These guys have been through a lot. The Colonel first saw action during the Great War in The Somme in 1916 and was wounded near Cambrai during the Hundred Days Offensive. When the Second War broke out, The Colonel met the Captain in France before having to evacuate from Dunkirk in 1940 and then were sent to North Africa where they met Sargent Tibbs shortly after Operation Compass. They fought their way from North Africa to Normandy before entering Germany at the end of the war.
+ackbarfan5556 lol are you forreal
@@ackbarfan5556 how'd they meet Towzer?
@@jodyrussell4969 Towser was stationed at an RAF field during the Battle of Britain while the army was regrouping. (I love this backstory I've made up.)
What I always loved about this movie was how all the animals not just other dogs banded together to help find the puppies
I like how when the decoded message doesn't make sense, instead of doubling down on the faulty translation he just gave, the Colonel is clearly sure that isn't right, doesn't posture to look infallible in front of his subordinates, and when Tibs suggests asking for a repeat message to make sure they get it right he immediately agrees and requests a repeat. And then when Tibs makes the correction to 'puppies' he doesn't blow Tibs off, pretend he figured it out without Tibs, or get huffish and offended at the correction. He just agrees that makes more sense and is likely correct.
You can tell they're a team and value each other greatly, have worked with one another a long time, and care much more about getting the message about the emergency right than the chain of command or their own egos.
I agree, and that also makes their personalities and relationships more subtle and "real", which is something you won't see anymore in comedies, both animated and live.
It should also be noted, as mentioned by Perdita earlier in the film, that the Twilight Bark is seen as more of a "Gossip Chain" rather than a serious message system between dogs. Therefore, it was only natural for the Colonel to blow the whole thing off as some stupid joke that originated from London.
@infinitlycool Except he doesn't, he takes it seriously from the start. He is just confused at first.
@ Didn't say he didn't, he just made that assumption based on how the Twilight Bark is generally viewed.
@infinitlycool I agree, I just feel it reinforces what I originally said.
Colonel has every reason to brush it off as a joke. But Tibs says they maybe should listen again just in case they got it wrong. Colonel then immediately agrees, implying that he agrees he could just be goofing it up, he would rather be sure it is just a joke than wrong about it being something serious.
That implies a massive amount of trust and comradery between them all.
I love the goose holding the dogs ear up
2:16 "Fifteen spotted puddles stolen -- OHHH, BALDERDASH!"
Haha
Such an old quack of a dog!!!!
adamzanzie better double check it
adamzanzie LOL
Judged it when I was 10, understand it at 45
Better double check it sir
55 years later, still great Disney movie
The Colonel, Captain and Sgt. Tibs were always my favorite characters.
15 spotted puddles stolen? Awww balder dash! lol love that part
i practically know this scene off by heart and always cracked up at that part
yeah it's one of my favorite parts as well
Ryan Burgers it still makes me laugh and i have seen this movie 100x
Ryan Burgers it still makes me laugh and i have seen this movie 100x
Ryan Burgers “Puddles, Sir?”
Man, I wish I listened to words more as a kid. This is some great dialogue.
My favorite part of the film. Love these guys.
skibidido A movie, story, series, and so on is only good if the side characters reflect the likable quality that matches to the main cast.
They were the ones who saved the day!
It's not in this scene but I love when they see the car drive up to the house and the Colonel goes "Don't be ridiculous Tibbs! They wouldn't be driving!" 😂
I love Sgt Tibbs's reaction when he starts to go up lol
OHHH, BALDERDASH!!!!!!!! 🎶badum-damdum-dum🎶
My favorite part
All of the dogs in my neighborhood were just barking & my dog had to get in on it when I let him outside. I found myself asking my dog if there were 15 spotted puddles stolen? He spread the word... Whatever it was! 😂😂 Funny the things we remember so clearly from childhood. Such a great movie. ❤
The part when Colonel misinterprets puppies as puddles is funny.
He need a hearing aid, right!
🎞📹📹
2:20 The best failure sound in the world
Thats awèsome i love it i laughed so hard
That sound was the real Fail horn before Price is Right did it.
Bankrupt
Every time I hear dogs barking, I say "Hey, it's the Twilight Bark!" Ever since I saw 101 Dalmatians, I now understand that the Twilight Bark is a way for dogs to talk to other dogs.
Sgt. Tibbs is the most adorable animal i'v ever seen in any film..So much i named my kitten after him :3
I like him and puss in boots from shrek
I watched this movie so much as a kid that I know every word of this scene, years later. Love it!
If i ever get a cat I'm totally naming it Sgt. Tibbs
Turbo9987 👥💄m
I actually named my teachers cat that matched him with the marking ST on the hip.❤
"The beacons! The beacons are barking! London calls for aid!"
"..........................And The Colonel will answer!"
Hahah lotr
This has been one of my favorite Disney scenes ever for like 15 years! :D
"Fifteen spotted puddles stolen -- Oh Bolderdash" Makes me laugh probably way to hard to this day. 😂
Sgt. Tibbs is the goat imo
lol Yeah Tibbs always takes care of business
one of my favorite movie's. One of my favorite things about this movie is the scenery, just beautiful.
I've been to England before and I've seen this scenery in person, during my stay in London and the English countryside. I got to see the countryside on my way to Stonehenge, and Bath, and during my stay in Alfriston, a small town south of London. When I was there I definitely thought of "101 Dalmatians," "Peter Pan," and "The Great Mouse Detective."
@@evanhalsey1844 sounds amazing, England is a place i would love to visit
Like how the Captains rug is emblazoned with the insignia of the 5th Royal Irish Lancers great attention to detail from Disney.

Such a timeless scene. It comes back to me even as an adult. Vintage kiddie classic movie.
I always really liked this scene as a kid. It just fascinated me how the dogs were communicating with each other from so far away with no phones or anything like that.
2:03 to 2:23 that's how it's like when your phone signal is choppy 😂
Love the goose wagging hee tail like an excited dog. The little details in Disney films are wonderful!
2:16 Puddles 😂😂😂😂
I named my cat after Sgt. Tibbs! Awesome movie from my childhood
I was watching videos of wolves howling in the wilderness and this crept in as a weird faint nostalgia, had to look it up. Something about the dark lighting and the rural country side being so empty coupled with the desperate barking of poor stolen puppies, haven't watched this movie in years but it absolutely holds up, what a feeling.
"15 spotted puddles missing. Oh, balderdash!"
XD
''...15...of course it's 15.''
That look he gives sgt. Tibs at that part always makes me laugh.
It's quite a travesty that these characters weren't included in "101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure."
I've seen a couple of these clips in the past few days and it makes me wanna watch this movie again
Im latino, this movie has always made me want to live in London or France.
The fact so many animals, not even in the same species, were doing all they could to find and rescue puppies they didn’t even know.
I like the idea of all the animals looking out for each other and having a kinda secret society and sacred code lmao.
I love the nod they made to Sgt Tibbs' hell hall in the live action Cruella movie!
Hell Hall is actually what it was called in the original book.
Spotted, spotted puddings?
No puddles
Puddles sir?
15 spotted puddles stolen. Oh balderdash
I don't think I knew of Morse Code when I first watched this movie, so it's a little funny recognizing it now.
One of my top five favorite disney movies and one of my favorite scenes
Ohh Balderdash! Still makes laugh as an adult.
I saw The Jungle Book on Disney Jr. last Saturday and I saw 101 Dalmatians today on Disney Jr. and I thought Colonel the dog sounded like Colonel Hathi the elephant. Their voices sound similar.
That's because it's J. Pat O'Malley. He did both Colonel Hathi and Colonel.
That’s because it was James Patrick O’Malley. He voiced 2 colonels.
DarkMagicalYoshi yep
@Ruth Gray what
@Ruth Grayok
"Fifteen spotted puddles stolen? Oh, BALDERDASH. " hilarious!!
I love this movie so much.
ppppp🎃
Tibbs is the greatest Disney animal of all time.
thank you
I say Judy Hopps.
why on earth did this seane just pop into my head when i was eating dinner
Maybe you thought you were being served balderdash for dinner that night.
“Puddles, sir?”
😂
15 spotted puddles stolen? Oh, balderdash!
The expression on the cat's face during the barking communication used to kind of haunt my nightmares because it kind of looks like his eyes are rolled into the back of his head.
Favorite scene in the movie
@0:29 Find The Colonel in the haystack.
The colonel reminds me of my dog. like an old male version of her
One of my favorite scenes from 101 dalmatians
This is truly fantastic. Thank you for the upload.
"101 Dalmatians " is probably my favorite of the classic Disney Animated Movies. The original animated "Lion King" is my 2nd.
I love how the Colonel sounds like Colonel Hati from Jungle Book his voice is meant for the military
Yes; both the Colonel & Colonel Hati were voiced by J. Pat O'Malley.
Dog like it 101 dalmatians the twilight bark
Yes, sir. Right-o, sir, right away sir. LOL
Thurl as Captain is amazing
Wait, you're saying that's Tony the Tiger/"You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" singer voicing the Captain?
@ yup that’s right
Sgt. Tibbs!
Captain the horse was voiced by thurl Ravenscroft and Colonel the sheep dog was voiced by Jay Pat o'malley and sergeant Tibbs was by some man don't recall his name
David Frankham voiced Sergant Tibbs. J Pat O'Malley also voiced Jasper Baden.
The twilight bark/morse code scenes would bore me as a child but I love them now.
I used to think he said "Sergeant Chips" instead of "Sergeant Tibbs" when I was younger.
This is one of my favorite Disney movies.
THE CAT IS SMARTER THAN THE DOGG!!!
The Cat is friendly enough to aid his colonel.
The voices and animations in this movie constantly have my dying 🤣🤣🤣🤣
And that's how we beat the Germans apparently...a network of dogs operating a covert intelligence operation.
The Colonel does Colonel Haithi from The Jungle Book!
Same voice actor
Same goes for Jasper Bauden and Buzzie (Bald Vulture).
the cat is too cute
15 spotted puddles stolen? Aww Balder dash! LOL
Being old The Colonel is hearing impaired.
In live action they should put Brian blessed as colonel while with Hugh Laurie, mark Williams & Glen close one .
Forgot how British af this movie was lol
I was thinking the same thing. It's very much post WW2 Britain.
1961
Why does the Colonel translate the Twilight Bark for Tibs and the Captain? They both speak dog.
The cat does all the work, gets none of the credit and is a cat trying to rescue dogs.
Since they tossed in a Jock and Napoleon/Trusty cameo, why not add Nana, Bowser and Chief while they're at it?
ppp✒
Colonel: It's from London.
I always thought Colonel was funny.
Had to look this up while watching a Stargate Atlantis episode which referenced it...
Maybe my favorite scene in the whole movie.
Would be wonderful with more Danish spoken scenes from the movie, like there is from other movies. Just small clips and sequences. Like the twilight bark, and this, when it reaches colonel's stable, or more like a bahn
A cat taking orders from a horse and dog? Oh Balderdash!
"15 spotted puddles stolen...awww, balderdash!" 🧐😂
Did the Colonel faint after he said that? I was never sure...
Alert, alert!! 15 puddles stolen, lol lol
Oh, balderdash!
It's really interesting reading the auto translated version of this. Some things are translated very well but others lose some meaning.
Cruella had a spooky mansion for sure
If you think about it, a dogs bark would be the loudest way it could communicate due to the location of where the sound comes from.
Sometimes it takes a Disney movie to get our voices heard!!! Especially after victims of crimes, survivors are told to shut up..and the magnitude of the corruption is threating to kill, hurt us if we try to fight and stand our ground!
Her name is Cruella DeVil and she lives in Hell Hall? Jeez, could they get more on the nose?
old animation is gold
Please stand by
The colonel is literally me 😂
1:14 Am I the only one who always thought the hill in the distance was a bit oddly shaped? Like the leftmost part is like some sort of blanced rock?
It's Colonel Hathi in dog form!
Actually it would be the other way around. 101 Dalmations came out in 1961 and Jungle Book came out in 1967.
Also Jasper and Buzzie The Bald Vulture are voiced by that exact same guy!
Top Gear has gone in an interesting direction.
Guess this would seem like the “animal version” or equivalent of Morse Code, ha ha. This was re-released at least twice in theaters in my lifetime-summer 1979(at a drive in), when I was 10, just finished fourth grade and early January 1986, when I was 16 and a high school junior. Saw it both times. Always liked seeing Cruella get her well deserved comeuppance in the end, where even Horace and Jasper have had enough of her: “AW, SHUT UP!!!”
