      It looks good. Kinda surprised the clear adhered to Goof Off though. Was that an exterior clear you sprayed on there? Has it held up in the water?

    • @joeypaesano
      @joeypaesano  4 года назад +1

      867 5309 - God’s honest truth, the paint has held up amazingly! No issues at all with the paint on the board, nothing has chipped, faded or discolored. It looks just as good as when I 1st painted it.
      Pro tip: Goof Off works great to remove wax from your surfboard once you remove the majority with a wax comb. Never, ever use acetone to remove paint from your board, it will eat through the fiberglass.
      I used Rust-Oleum Universal High-gloss Clear Spray Paint as a clear coat/top coat and it sealed the paint to the board with remarkable results. 🤙🏽

    24:00 wow! good job man. Looks like abstract painting on a board 🏄🎨 how is the hexatraction working so far?

    • @joeypaesano
      @joeypaesano  3 года назад +1

      Hi. Thank you so much for the question and watching my very 1st vlog. The Hexatraction is good, but not great. Aesthetically, Hexatraction looks amazing on the board, giving it a very appealing hexagon pattern incorporated with the art. I like the look a lot. I wanted to preserve the art on the board (as I'm sure you wouldn't want to smother it in wax either) and not have the art covered in wax, which btw I have put wax on the board and it didn't affect the paint job when it was removed.
      I use Fu Wax which is by far a pricey but a terrific surf wax to use, so I'm used to a very tacky glue under my feet. The Hexatraction doesn't stand up to that type of wax by far.
      It definitely gives you traction, I was surprised that the Hexatraction had some grip when in the water but, not to the type of grip you would expect from a higher grade wax (like Fu Wax).
      I made a 3 part series on the application and test/review of the Hexatraction.
      If you're interested in knowing more about my thoughts on the product I placed the url links in the description of this video of my 3 part series of vlogs revolving around the customization of the Slater Sci-Fi. However, I persevered and was overwhelmingly happy with the outcome. Thank you for taking time out to watch my video and commenting. I really appreciate it.

    that googone spray can really loosen the edges of the pads stickiness but i really liked the first time you got a run i think you should of stopped there. the paints are going to fail rub fade and scratch should really glass over because a delicate pattern like that if ruined cant be repaired but glad your happy with it

    • @joeypaesano
      @joeypaesano  2 года назад +1

      +kevin almeida It was a spontaneous decision painting the board.. also wanted to document it.
      The Goof-off didn’t effect my traction pad, though.
      Art is subjective, I had an idea in my head of how I wanted to see this board look. I wasn’t happy with the 1st attempt.
      It’s been close to 3 years since I’ve painted this board and the paint on the board looks the exact same as when I painted it.
      No fading, chipping or scratches.
      I used acrylic paint and then finished it with an acrylic clear coat and it’s still looking fresh and new. 🤙🏽 Appreciate your comment.

      This was my 1st time trying to record a vlog style video. Plus, my 1st surfboard customization. I actually have another custom surfboard video which I’ve done on a DHD Black Diamond. I got more into depth and also better instructions on “how to customize a surfboard” in that video.

    I know this is a unrelated question but you are the only pro surfer who really answers my questions but If I have a quad fin setup and want a thruster can I just get one on the take out 1 of my fins and put a big fin on the end and 2 small ones on the sides

    • @joeypaesano
      @joeypaesano  3 года назад

      In my opinion. You can try any style fin set up. There are no rules. Look at Kelly Slater, he’s constantly trying new styles and designs of surf boards and using different types of fin set ups.
      I have a friend who rides a twin fin but throws a smaller fin in the back for his thruster set up.
      I use large fins in my thruster (3 fin) set up, even though I’m “recommended” to use medium size fins revolving around my weight & height. I feel the board cut through the wave far better.
      So to answer your question; try different fin set ups. Experiment. It’s all about what feels good under your feet and what gives you better control. 🤙🏽

    Here's another tip with those markers if the tip of the point sinks in if you press down hard an does it hold it should drip down

    • @joeypaesano
      @joeypaesano  3 года назад

      Yes. I’ve tried that. It works. But, you have to make sure that it does not bead at the bottom as it runs down. It will make the paint on the board bumpy with little beads of paint where the running paint ends.

    How do you get it to run like that??

    • @joeypaesano
      @joeypaesano  3 года назад

      👋🏽 Hi. Thanks for the question. 1st I tried standing the surfboard upright, then by taking the paint pen I started blotching the very top (tip) of the board and wanted the paint to drip down to the tail. Unfortunately, as the paint (SLOWLY) began rolling down it left paint beads and uneven streaking. So I had to abort that method.
      However, while removing the uneven paint mess I created with the paint pens I found the solution. ‘Goof Off’ aerosol spray! As I began to spray the paint on my board to remove it the paint began running down the board (quickly) and it was a totally random fix. ‘Goof Off’ paint remover actually made the paint run quick and even.
      So to answer your question. It was a mixture of blotching the different color paint pens and then spraying the paint on the board with ‘Goof Off’ so the paint would get loose and run down nose to tail.
      Hope I was able to answer your question 🤙🏽

The paint is definitely not chipping off or cracking. It's sealed very well. It's been in the water, baking in the sun and I even have scraped wax off of it. @@shannondollie make sure to use acrylic paint & then when it’s dried use an acrylic clear coat spray. The process might take 1 or 2 days for the paint to dry.. I baked the paint in this Florida sun. on the 3rd day I gave it the clear coat to protect the paint and then let it sit in the sun for 1 extra day so the clear coat could bake in.. also, if you have a track pad on your board cover it up w/ a heavy towel.. the heat from the sun could make the traction pad come unglued.
