Love this for its simplicity and speed. Guilty admission....I made a rag quilt for my two-year-old greatgrand and his five-year-old big sister asked "What are you making for me?" I have made many things for her in the past and it was her little brother who got neglected during Covid. But of course she doesn't understand that! So I'm making her a hooded swim towel and she won't understand how easy it was compared to the quilt. Now that I see how easy it is will probably make more for other grands and great-grands.
Sounds like the adorable “what have you done for me lately?” Of a 5 year old! I’m sure she will love the beach towel, as will the others! Happy sewing!
I’ve been making them for years, maybe 2-3 per year, not enough that I don’t have to look at a few videos each time. (I’m old, that’s my excuse, lol). My g’son and g’daughter are in University this year and I made them some when little when we first moved down the street from them. Now, I’m making some for my 2 g’kids a few hours from here, and they’re 6 & 9 and they still want them even the 9 year old. It’s grey, and no fancy anything on his, just in case he gets teased, lol. Everyone loves them. I even put some pcs inside the towel for the ones when they go swimming, to be able to hold them onto themselves. Like a wing flap inside the 2 side edges…
Fun! I'll work on more but in the meantime you can get him ready if he celebrates Christmas with a Santa towel - ruclips.net/video/NYiZIAzkT34/видео.html
Thank you for sharing! It has been over 20 years since I was making these professionally for a lady who sold them at market. I couldn't quite remember the steps and needed a refresher course. I have a new grandson due in April, my daughter requested hooded towels for her baby shower next week, so I better get busy. Thanks again, happy sewing!
P.S. a bulky seam jumper is a great little tool to have for sewing over those thick spots and a serger with wooly nylon or wooly poly is perfect for the raw egdes of the hood. Obviously another option is to do a French seam to enclose the raw edge perfectly and neatly and give a true professional finish.
I am actually going to do mine by hand but this was helpful because I haven’t made these for a while. I do actually want to do this as a side hustle once I get my sewing machine set up in the house. But the ones I am making now are for a baby shower gift.
Thank you! I finally understand how to make this. I’ve watched many videos on this but just couldn’t get it but the way you did it it hit me lol I will make these as gifts to add to a baby shower or a young child’s birthday gift. Cause what kid doesn’t need a hooded towel?!😃
Help! I made 2 and both times the pretty side of the hood was on the wrong side of the towel. My grand daughter will love it anyway- but what am I missing?
I'm sure your grand daughter WILL love it anyway but also know how frustrating that would be! Make sure you fold the towel wrong sides together, then pin the hood into the hood. Here's a link for where I do it: ruclips.net/video/iIWQacGUydU/видео.html
I don’t know if this is how you designed, but when I overlapped the pretty side (embellished) face down on the wrong side of towel and sewed, the end result had the pretty side of hood on the pretty side of towel- with flat seam (from overlapping) over finished edges and sewing mostly just 2 layers of terry, my machine was also happy. Not sewing pretty sides facing each other was weird to get past. Thank you. 5 grandchildren will be pleased. Now on to a Velcro towel wrap wrapped for my school aged grandchildren…. Do you have a tutorial for that? Thanks so much. Merry Christmas. Grateful to be part of your sewing community
If you use a full size bath towel and half a hand towel for the hood, I would say till about 8 depending on the child’s size. For older kids use the full hand towel for the hood and an oversized or beach towel. Hope that helps!
Who will you make a hooded towel for? Baby? Toddler? Older kids? A gift or for your family?
For newborns and for older kids using a bath sheet and a whole hand towel for the hoods. Thanks for the instructions.

Cute little story. Yep, she has no idea but it should bring her happiness…

Love to see other towels ideas!
It's on my list - stay tuned!
❤ love your tutorial! Hopefully going to make a few for gifts!
I would love to see other ideas with the towels
Thanks for replying - I'm sure my great nephew would too! I'll work on some ideas. 🤓
Thank you for this. My grandson will be getting some of these very soon. I would love to see more ideas

I am making this for my great grandsons. Very good instructions. Thanks. Hope to make one for a 2year old & a baby
Enjoy those great grandsons and happy sewing! 🥰

Congratulations on the new baby and happy sewing to you too!
How could you make them smaller for a newborn?

I think these would sell really well - wishing you much success!
I've made these for my grandkids. And they loved them even until they became toddlers. They still use them
I’ve seen pre-teens embrace them as fun at the pool as long as the towel is big enough. 🥰 love a project they love for years!
This is cool, i'm about to become a first time grandmother so I will make a couple of these.
Congratulations & happy sewing!

I'm so glad and YES! What kid doesn't need a hooded towel? Honestly I'm beginning to think I might need a hooded towel 🤔🥰
Making these for my grand babies
So cute!!!
Thanks! I need to get a photo of him in it this year - he's quite a bit bigger! 🥰
Thanks so much!! I'm making for my granddaughter that will be born in April and my niece that will be born in May...I really appreciate you!!
You’re so welcome and congrats on the new babies coming into the family! 🥰
thank you for this very good tutorial. I am going to make this for a neighbor with a new baby and embroider her initial. Thanks again.
What a great gift ❤
❤ what a fun 🤩 project thank you for another amazing tutorial
Thank you! Any little cuties for you to make these for?
Your video was so helpful!! I’m going to embroider on the hoods for my grands!!
that will be so special - will you do designs or names or both?
Great tutorial! I'm going to do this for some baby showers! I would love to see the animal ones!
I’m hoping to get to an animal hood soon - make sure you subscribe and turn on the notification bell so you’ll know! Happy sewing!
I’m going to make this for my new grandchild coming in July.
It's a great baby gift - congratulations on the new addition to the family! 🥰
A friend gave my daughter a towel like this but put a cross stitch piece on it. I am going to make these! TY
There are so many fun ways to decorate these - happy sewing!
Love this as a gift! 😊
It's a perfect gift - made with love and sure to be used!
I love this. !!
Good idea. Thankyou
More fun tutorials please!!
That's my goal! Any suggestions for topics? Gift, Home, Kitchen, Baby, Dog, etc?
This is way cool! Thank you.❤
You're very welcome! I have to make that little guy another - his mom and grandmother keep stealing it from each other! 🤣
Do you wash the material & towels first?
Best case scenario yes - but I'll admit sometimes I don't. I didn't wash these first and they have held up well - phew!
@ ok, thank you! 🙂
I am a spray. Our well water has too many minerals to put in the iron. I just dislike buying water, when I can spend it on fabric. LOLOL
Fabric is definitely a more exciting way to spend money - I'm with you! 🧵
I’d love to try this, my girl outgrew all her baby ones but me and my sewing machine don’t get along 🥊
Well that’s a bummer! Tell that machine to behave. Maybe a friend or family member could help you out? 🤞🏻🤞🏻

@@gailanolik3276 Glad it worked well! The key is finding the way you like that your machine does too! 😉
Up to what age will this hood fit?

@@ArtistTaraReed oh ok perfect, thank you for replying 😊
I do please show me
First you showed pinning on the inside but when you started sewing, the pins are on the outside.
I believe I flipped it over to do the other side? Sorry if I didn't say it - do whatever works the best for you
More and an animal!
it's on the list! And this little cutie in the video is now running all over - he probably needs a new one! 🥰
@@ArtistTaraReed awwwww so sweet mine are all babies! 💜
So it's out in the list to do or it's on a tutorial already?
@@conniezapiain5153 sorry for the confusion - it's on my to-do list
@@ArtistTaraReed hahahaha!
Grandchild
I'm sure they will love it!
