Every time I watch this scene, I'm "Why did you bring this wooden board to this fight?" Surly the intimidation did not work. Already had a death sentence.
That is one of the best lines in the whole movie. I also like the one in the very beginning when he is asked by his teacher: And what technique do you hope to achieve? And Bruce replies, "to have no technique."

That first punch at 0:50 is my favorite attack in any media.
Don't know how Bruce Lee did it, but he was able to inject such raw visceral emotion into a single punch.

It is neither a punch nor a grab. It is a movement called "check and backfist" in traditional Chinese martial arts. You dont grab but "check" the opponent's lead arm downward (keeping contact) then throw a backfist. Your opponent can block your backfist and return the same technique back to you. In Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story that very sequence I'm describing is performed by a young Bruce. This is a basic (often first) technique in what is called "trapping." Trapping is a range of fighting somewhere between punchung and grappling. Think of Wing Chun chi-sao.

Bruce lee a myth wasn’t never good at martial arys
This fight is a good example of how important it is to control your emotions during a fight. Lee is face to face with the man responsible for his sister's death but he remains disciplined enough to stay focused and in control. Meanwhile O'Hara gets too angry when being on the losing end and he fights more and more carelessly as Lee easily counters his attacks.

I seen this film in 1983 and the funny thing was l couldn't remember it until years later. Great stuff watching "the master" at work. My hero.
Lee did not want to kill Ohara, but he had no choice. Ohara was determined to fight until one of them was dead.
I remember showing this movie to my girlfriend years ago. She'd never seen a Bruce Lee movie before and she thought it was going to be some cheesy action thing to laugh at. She came away with this total sense of surprise at how great it was and this newfound respect for Bruce Lee.
Almost 50 years later, no one can't appreciate him.

I’m in my 50’s. I first saw this movie when i was about 10 years old. Shortly after i enrolled in martial arts school. My sole purpose was to be like Bruce. When i entered tournaments, i imitated the sounds he made. To say he was my hero is such an understatement. My eyes are totally blurred with tears as i type these words. I am a traditional man and tears don’t come easily for me… unless i’m watching Bruce Lee in action. RIP legend!
Same here. Started in the playground. The movie enjoyed re-release all through 1978 and still it was standing room only especially when double billed with "Five Fingers of Death". I had the fortune of a group of us being at my instructor's house one day in 1977 rehearsing a demo routine for a tournament when we got into discussing this scene. Did Lee really possess that speed in the opening technique and how in the heck did Bob Wall time it the way he did. It got loud. We finally asked sensei what he thought. He was on the phone. He waved us off. After a few minutes, he hung up and made another call saying, " Whats happening Bob?" He handed us the phone and said, " Ask him yourself."

Love this fight scene because it truly shows how amazingly fast Bruce Lee's punches were.
Bruce's screen presence and ability to project emotion was simply incredible. I liken it to how Jimi Hendrix projected so much emotion through the guitar.

My mother took me to see this movie when I was eleven years old, and what was so surprising to me was how mesmerized my mother was by Bruce Lee’s screen presence. When the movie ended she said he is a lethal weapon. I had the biggest smile on my face. Fond memories.

You can watch this scene one, twice, or a thousand times. It's pretty much the epitome of 'badass' in a fight sequence. This 2:15 sequence alone lives in history.

The fact Bruce didn't want to kill the man who's responsible for his sisters death showed he had great discipline!
Han warning O'Hara a few times showed he did care for his own bodyguard and doesn't want him to get kimself killed.
But O'Hara letted his rage get the better of him and ignored not only Han but shook off another guy trying to stop him from using the bottles and it costed him his life

Back in those days people trained with great intention. Martial arts was a way of life for people like Bruce Lee. It wasn't about competition only or just for fighting. It was a socially significant philosophy fostered with conditioning and a disciplined way of life. His contribution will never be forgotten.

He therefore showed he had no decency to accept defeat and live, or to follow the code of martial arts which is why Lee killed him - albeit reluctantly.
Even Han gets upset by O'Haras actions and later states:"O'Hara's treachery has disgraced us."
Lee is bound by a code of honor and respect. Earlier in the film he visits his mother's grave before departing for Hong Kong: "You will not agree with what I'm going to do. It is contrary to all that you have taught me, and all that Su Lin believed. I must leave. Please try to find a way to forgive me."
Lee is a self-reflecting man and knows what he is about to do would make his own mother very disappointed and he therefore hopes she can forgive him. (To the Chinese the spirits of our dead ancestors or with us and dishonoring them is a great sin)

What makes this fight so great is the realism. No wires or histrionics, just real athleticism and speed. That flip kick looked effortless.
Honestly, Bruce was a very underrated actor. You can really feel the emotions in Lee as he deals the BRUTAL killing blow to O'hara. A mix of pleasure and horror.

Thats why I loved Bruce Lee. He dealt well with emotional content. His fighting scenes themselves were like conversations whereas Lee would offer his contrarical objection would then turn out to be respected. Very powerful. You can see he threw all of his Chi into that death blow, crushing Oharas chest cavity.

One can never get tired of this movie, we discovered it in the 80s as like most kids, we went through a phase of doing a doctorate on Bruce Lee, watching every Lee movie, then Bruce Li movies and then renting anything to do with martial arts (the worst being "They Call me Bruce"). One of the most memorable documentaries running around at the time was "The Man and the Myth" (starring Bruce Li), when Bruce Li had those sun glasses on, he was Bruce Lee. Everyone had a Bruce Lee poster at home, the Bruce Lee game on the C64 was one of the best, if anyone saw a Nunchucka in the shops (normally plastic ones because it was a banned item) you'd run to buy it. The worst attempt I saw was someone practicing with and old phone (1980s phone with the cord on the hand set). The O'Hara fight scene sounds were the most memorable punch sounds that we ever heard. The second punch is almost a symbol sound for Bruce Lee's enter the dragon, together with that slow motion kick (which they sampled and used in the C64 game The Way of the Exploding Fist). This fight scene is the turning point in this movie, silence of the audience watching Lee vs O'Hara says it all. I remember kids mimicking this scene and having the name as Oldhara (instead of O'Hara).
O'hara is alive today also at 81 years old. Bruce lee would be 80 if alive today. Both of them were very friendly to each other in real life even though this scene shows them as enemy.

Something I don't see discussed as often as everything else... but worth comment.... is Bruce's incredible footwork. Not just here but in all of his legacy... he literally floats like a butterfly. That Cha Cha champion status carried over into his martial art big time. Just watching him control the distance with such grace is awe inspiring

Mine and my dad's hero. Went to Bruce and Brandon's grave in Seattle to pay respects and it was emotional. Just introduced my four year old daughter to this video and have signed her up for lessons, very proud moment for me. Just shows that Bruce went beyond life. Bruce Lee had such intensity and raw emotion! They'll never be another like him. They way he jumped in the air and landed on that guy and then turns around to look at Han. He put everything he had in to that final blow, all the pain he felt u can see it in his face.
The actor Robert Wall who received that kick that sent him into the chairs, was an actual martial artist himself, trained by Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis and Gene LaBell. He said he told Bruce to make the kick real. Do not hold back. Robert suggested they do it that way to give it authenticity. Robert suffered two broken ribs. There was no wire to pull him back. That was the actual force of Bruce's kick. He was right, it did give the true feel.
That face of emotions after Bruce Lee jumped on his neck was priceless, Bruce had the complete package, thats what made him different...a true legend, unmatched
Imagine if Bruce had been at Sharon Tate's house the night Tex Watson and the girls came to kill them... I have a feeling Bruce would have killed Tex, I have little doubt... Bruce might have died that day but not before trying to kill Tex and maybe the girls also.

In my late fifties. I saw the premiere back in August of 73 inside a packed theater. When i say packed, I mean people standing in the isles back through the doors spilling into the lobby, sitting on the arm rests of the end seats, and sitting on the balcony stairs and railings. Some people opened the side fire doors to the alley and people leaned in from outside. The ushers didn't even try. They understood. But the critics didn't. They saw a James Bond imitation kung fu movie with a TV actor with one series under his black belt. I saw a crowd like that again later in the year with "The Exorcist" and in 75 with "Jaws". But "Enter" was the action film that did business like that. Had Bruce lived, the movie would have been a franchise like "Shaft" " Dirty Harry" and planet of the apes. If nothing else, every time "Enter " was re-released through the years , it lined people around the block at night in the rain for the midnight showing.

I wanted to be like him and at the age of 15, I said one day I'll spar against him to learn from him personally, only to find out that he died right after this movie was filmed. Everything about this scene is perfect, steaks super high and emotional catharsis going on inside Lee's character. Nothing will bring his sister back, which is why he is almost disinterested in reclaiming Vengeance;
O'Hara had no idea of how personal this fight was for Lee, and that's why he didn't know that he had absolutely no way to win.
I will always remember this fight sequence - the two opening strikes in particular. It’s one thing to be caught off guard for that first punch but then Bruce does it again immediately afterwards - amazing speed combined with power. It’s one thing to be fast and another to deliver power - it’s altogether a lot more challenging to be able to deliver both!

Bruce Lee started the revolution. He pave the way that nobody thought about it he unified the martial arts in a modern way. He started something 45 to 50 years ago. He was not bias nor Prejudice and he saw what needed to be done in the world way before somebody else did. Enter the Dragon (1973), released a month after Bruce Lee's death, was the only film I would hear Bruce's actual voice. This was my favorite Bruce Lee film.
This is the film that changed the entire direction of my formerly bullied life! This guy was my God, back when I was 17. When somebody told me that he had died a year before I left school, I was inconsolable!

Great "revenge" scene from one of the best action movies of all time.
Best scene ever. Gotta give credit to Bob Wall also because his timing was so good that it looked like he was actually being hit (and kicked). The last flying kick to the chest (that sent him flying into the spotters) actually resulted in an injury to one of the spotters. Looking at it closely, Bruce really does connect but it's more of a push (with his foot) expertly disguised as a kick. That's shows immense technique as well as power.
I read somewhere that Bruce’s kick that sent Bob Wall flying backwards also fractured a couple of his ribs and broke one of the arms of the stuntman Wall fell on..... 😂 Classic Master Lee
@@vincentamadio9350 True - As most now know, Bob Wall passed at age 82. Sources , (e.g. TMZ) are quoting him about this fight sequence wherein he confirms that his ribs were broken. The quote given had Bruce saying, ""Bob, I wanna hit you, and I wanna hit you hard".

At the very beginning of this clip is some low-key good acting. Bruce Lee’s facial expression changes when he realizes he must fight O’Hara. You could almost feel his eagerness to punish O’Hara, and when he does, it’s one of the most satisfying scenes in martial arts movie history.
