For anyone who is wondering, this is 11km below sea level. The pressure here is equivalent to stacking 1,800 full-grown elephants on your back.

What would happen if these fish were brought up to surface level?

    • @poggerwhite

@@SpenceFR see the blobfish for a good example. It'd be very similar to that. When deep sea fish get brought up to the surface, the basically turn into a pile of goo. Even the blobfish looks completely normal when it's at the appropriate depth

The Mariana Snailfish 🥇🪙hold a special place in my heart ♡♡☆☆♥️♥️🥰😘😻🫀 They're my favorite, precious little angels it's incredible that they're fully alive active, healthy, thriving, sociable, happy & able🐟 to survive that deep down in the hadal zone ocean seafloor at the depth of 26,800 ft. In freezing temperatures & in complete pitch black darkness. The deepest trenches are lonely, dark, spooky, isolated, depressing at least for social, smart, big personality, gregarious, charismatic & lively snailfish that compared to non-descript, vegetable lifeless sedentary sea 🥒 cucumbers are super 🤷🏻‍♀️ idk, humanlike I'd say. They do have a spine like us. Anyway, they look so positive ✨️ minded, upbeat, happy & seem to make do the best they can out of what little they have given their sparse & scarce resources & limitations, surviving in the loneliest & most menacing part of the ocean without any daylight. They're inspiring💯❤️♥️
