I've had a lot of respect for the military and have considered joining for a while. I am currently at uni and getting a degree that would let me work in the defence sector. I tried to join UOTC but was rejected on medical grounds (temporary inhaler use so I'm basically just waiting for the 3 year mark). I'm intrigued to hear your thoughts on if I should pursue a career in the military or just utilise the qualifications I am currently earning.
I’ve always wanted to join the military but over the last couple of months it’s really clicked in my mind that there’s no point since we’re not at war currently. There’s currently people who have been in the military for up to ten years, that joined to be soldiers, who have never actually took part in combat, even in a support role. And, if something does kick off, then there will always be the opportunity to join up and get involved. It seems like a waste of time to join up right now when nothing is happening. Would be curious to hear your thoughts on this.
@@Liam1991 I get that but isn’t being in the military in peace time just like being a professional athlete and training everyday but never getting to compete? That seems like a waste.
War is always going on. Maybe for the regular infantry there isn’t but for some units I.e SFSG, UKSF and potentially some regular units I.e 42 CDO boarding team, there’s constant action going on even if you don’t necessarily hear it on the news. But yeah for the general army/military there’s not much going on.
@@CompleteCommando Really? It seems like people are completely anti war at the moment after twenty years in the Middle East with nothing to show for it. I’d be really surprised if the British Government committed troops abroad in the next five to ten years.
I’m currently 14 and I know I definitely want to serve, but I can’t decide between the Army or the Marines I was wondering if you or anyone else who has served in either branch got help with out with this choice. Thanks!
A big thing for me is the amount I hear of ex military struggling once they've left the forces, finding a job settling back into civi street and just feeling empty etc etc is the quite common?
It can be common but my advice is to have a plan for leaving. Loads (including myself) think they’ll be able to cuff it outside. It took me a while to find my feet in civvy street but now feel I’m a lot further down the road than most because of service. 💪
If you have an issue with being away from your family, you can always join the reserves 🙂

@@James-mh4nn ? What kind of comment is that?
@@Liam1991 a comment expressing my opinion like all comments do. Duh
@@James-mh4nn And other people have the right to express how much of a dick comment that was.

There's more to military life than going to war. If you really want to be in the military, just join up, and see if it's for you or not 🙂

War is just around the corner, be careful what you wish for. 👍

Pretty much 0 rent or bills and they pretty much pay for whole qualifications. Invest all the money ffs. You will be fine.
