Hey I'm loving your videos. I have a question. Can you cover maybe in another video some things to prevent getting sick. I feel like I'm sick all the time. Every other week. I'm catching a cold or a flu now. I have two kids. One is a baby that doesn't sleep through the night. I also have a high stress job with a constantly changing schedule so I know sleep and stress are big factors. But what can I do to stop being sick all the time? I'm trying to eat better. I'm trying to exercise. I'm washing my hands
Thanks for the kind words and for sharing your situation! I’m not a doctor, so I recommend consulting a healthcare professional for personalized advice, but I can share some helpful, science-backed tips that might be useful. First, it’s great that you’re focusing on improving your diet and staying active-those are key factors for a strong immune system. I’m not sure how much you are working out or how hard you’re going. But just in case, I want to mention it’s important to not overtrain, especially with a high-stress job and little sleep. Overtraining combined with stress can actually weaken your immune system, so aim for balanced, moderate workouts rather than pushing too hard. 2nd you’re not alone in feeling like you’re getting sick more often. There’s some evidence that people have been experiencing more frequent colds and illnesses after the lockdowns during the pandemic. This could be due to reduced exposure to everyday pathogens during isolation, which may have temporarily lowered our immune “fitness.” I know I’ve certainly gotten more colds post lockdowns. Here’s a few science-backed tips to help prevent colds and flus, I’m sure you’re already trying to do some of these but I’ll list them all as a reminder: 1. Sleep: Sleep is crucial for immune health. Try to prioritize at least 7-8 hours if possible, or catch up with naps if your baby isn’t sleeping through the night yet. 2. Manage Stress: Chronic stress can weaken your immune system. Practices deep breathing, yoga, or even 5-10 minutes of mindfulness daily can help. 3. Nutrition: Focus on a whole-food diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables for vitamins and antioxidants. Citrus fruits, leafy greens, and berries are great for boosting immune function. 4. Supplements: if not getting from diet certain ones can help: Vitamin D: Low levels are linked to increased susceptibility to colds and flus (get sunlight is the best). Vitamin C: It may not stop you from getting sick, but could reduce the severity and duration of colds. Zinc: Has been shown to shorten the duration of colds if taken at the onset of symptoms. Probiotics: A healthy gut microbiome is linked to a stronger immune system. Ashwagandha: An adaptogenic herb that can help improve sleep, reduce stress, improve mood. This one’s best to cycle with. 5. I like to drink a special tea passed down from a longtime friend from Brazil. It’s boiled onion, garlic, cloves, cinnamon stick, ginger and then when ready to serve add fresh squeezed lime juice and 1 serving of manuka honey. This has been my go to for flus. Drink multiple cups a day. 6. Stay Active but Balanced: Regular moderate exercise boosts immunity, but as I mentioned, overtraining can have the opposite effect. Lastly, it’s a tough season with little ones, work stress, and everything else, so be kind to yourself and focus on small, consistent changes. You’re doing a great job staying proactive! Hope this helps and wishing you good health! 😊
Crawling for distance with a weight vest has really made a big change in my core. It also challenges your ability to breathe behind the shield, in a compressed position.
