The Road to Hickman's Ultimate Invasion (2023)! Marvel's Ultimate Universe Returns!

- Ultimate Comics return with Ultimate Invasion by Jonathan Hickman and original Ultimates artist Bryan Hitch. The four issue event launching summer 2023 marks Marvel's first official return to the "Ultimate" line of comics since 2015's Secret Wars ended the universe.
We know from Marvel's announcement that the event will focus on Miles Morales and The Maker, two Ultimate Universe favorites who've continued their stories in Marvel's "prime" Earth-616, as well as the Illuminati, aka Iron Man, Black Panther, Reed Richards, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, Namor, and a returning Professor X (throughout Hickman's use of the Illuminati in New Avengers, Beast filled this role). The return of the Ultimate Universe has been a long time coming (although I've been advocating for it, I honestly assumed Marvel would wait for the 25th anniversary!), and this is one of the most exciting ways it could come back.

I miss Jimmy Hudson so much. It’s a shame he’s not welcome on Krakoa and no one in the X-Office has touched him since he became Poison. If Hulkverine can become a thing Venomverine should, too.

If the ultimate marvel universe does return with a vengeance j am just hoping the return opens the door for ultimate Peter Parker and ultimate Mary Jane and ultimate spiderwoman return because honestly all three versions of these characters were fantastic in my opinion.

I know the Ultimate Universe ceased during events leading into Secret Wars but wasn’t the universe already left in shambles due to Magneto and the events of Ultimatum?
It did. And in Donny Cates Venom run The Maker manages to travel back to the 1610 ultimate world and it was in an apocalyptic state
I remember a time when Quesada said if they ever crossed the Ultimate universe with the 616 they were officially creatively bankrupt, that ended well lol.
I don't expect him to do anything that would effect Krakoa directly. But I would be surprised if he didn't have a few panels between Xavier Reed and/or Namor to add some tension to both stories.
I wish we could see Ultimate Cable again!

letting a bunch of creators have a go at making their own marvel universe sounds great, i hope the "ultimate multiverse" is direction they go in!
marvel could give extended runs to universes which are well received, forget about the ones that aren't and even merge the very best parts of all of them into 616 eventually?
it's in the spirit of the original ultimate universe but without putting all your eggs in one basket with a single new universe that could just as easily flop as take off?

Soon as I heard your theory I remembered that thought.
I think the Ultimate Universe will be a series of Demon Wars style Ultimates stories that can freely conflict with each other. And when it's run its course, Hickman will pick his favorite stories and pen the conclusion.
I 'member a time at the beginning of the Hickman era X-men where everyone thought the Maker was secretly behind Xaviers new self. I'm curious to see how Xavier is used here.

Yay! Of all the problems with Marvel post secret wars 2015, I always thought the lack of cannibalism stuck out as the biggest.
I think krakoa doesn't need a reboot. The introduction of new characters like Rasputin and that guy with Storm
Hopefully it means Fall of krakoa like the season
your theory at the end reminds me of what grant Morrison tried to do over at DC with the Multiversity i hope it works out this time if that's the case

Do we believe Marvel will have Hickman return to the New Universe characters for a HoX/PoX style reinvention? I think that's the way we'd see them readied for the Marvel Studios treatment if they ever decide to do anything with them.
Not what I was expecting to see today, really excited though! Definitely can't wait for confirmation on Hickman's main project of 2023, the universe/multiverse-y thing :), love the video :D

Ultimate invasion fun
funnily enough i have just been reading the whole ultimate universe starting with the ultimates, spiderman, ff and xmen up to ultimatum. After ultimatum i went on to ultimate enemy , the ultimates, etc and all the miniseries up till then and then went back to post ultimatum spidey and xmen and thats where i am right now, nearly finished. awesome. I could have happily read those 100 issues of Hickman's ultimates.
Dave do you think we will see an ultimate universe reboot or a 2020's equivalent I would love to see what would happen if the marvel universe started in the last decade
Not gonna lie I'm kinda scared of the ultimate universe coming back. I mean this is the same universe that has a page where the wasp flashes a violently horny hulk and that's not even mentioning scarlet witch and quicksilver incest while wolverine watches from behind a bush

Imagine if the ultimate x-men meet the x-men in krakoa, imagine Charles' reaction when he sees himself walking and continuing his union with magneto, Imagine cyclops and Jean seeing themselves married and with children, Imagine wolverine seeing himself with his childrens, imagine magneto vs ultimate magneto, Imagine the funny reaction of colossus finding out that ultimate colossus is gay,Imagine the reaction of the ultimate nightcrawler discovering that his other self is the child of mystique,ultimate sabertooth vs ultimate wolverine and wolverine, Ultimate Magneto might want to take Krakoa as a new and better genosha to use to exterminate humans but Magneto and Charles will team up to stop him.

I honestly didn't enjoy House of X/House of M mainly because it promised something epic in a similar way to Hickman's work in the Avengers titles, and instead became so large and sprawling it was hard to piece it all together coherently. Maybe I missed the point somewhere. Regardless, looking forward to this next outing. The Ultimate Universe was always edgy and intriguing when it was well-written.
Brand it as "Ultimate Marvels: (insert sub title)"
I'm excited about this but when they started teasing for this project I thought it was going to be about Doctor Strange.

Thanks for this vid read the original ultimates loved the cinematic style so looking forward to ultimate invasion but I'm a backstory nerd so my brain needs to read what comes before , before I read invasion wish I wasn't wired like that it's annoying I can't just jump in to issue 3 I gotta read 1,2
But didnt we learn at the end of spider men 2 that the ultimate universe does in fact still exist?

So basically... Read everything Ultimates, everything Miles, the Cates/Stegman Venom run, and everything Hickman. I have all of Hickman's Marvel stuff in singles, as well as Miles in singles and omnibus... Need to collect Ultimates and Venom. I will disagree with you a teeny bit with regard to Spider-Men 2. We still don't know when Marvel is going to bring a live-action Miles to the big screen, but it will happen at some point. We're going to have a live-action Champions at some point as well. Lastly, Hickman's Avengers/New Avengers work has figured prominently in the MCU epic storylines. As X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Miles enter the live-action MCU how much you want to bet Hickman's work on Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and (now upcoming) the Ultimates will play a significant role in the post multiverse MCU?
Your theory is basically what the Marvel Multiverse was before Hickman ruined it.

I completely disagreed with making universes for specific writers on the helm.
We already saw what happen with you giving one writer and artist the ability to make a completely new universe,

It was a cynicism universe with 500 Original Characters and all of them were Batman.
