They take actual brain development into account as well, and life stages and childhood milestones have been extremely well studied. If it was me I'd say 18 across the board minimum. I'm a RN and this is what I'm basing my comment off. We don't make rules based on outliers, it is based on what is typically expected. Those things have been learned through long term studies, data collection, anatomical structure observation and identification, and years of scientific research. Adulthood in the Western world is typically 18. Just because our governments may have some idiotic marriage or consent laws making it earlier in some states or places doesn't mean the brain is suddenly an adult at that age now. Politics and science don't often agree. Let's not pretend this is about religion anymore in 2024.
I mean, you generally can symbolically do anything, as long as everyone involved is consenting. Like, I physically cringe from the tradition of the ransom on the wedding, but as long as it's just symbolic and the couple and the fiancée's family are all into it, it's none of my business. Hindus generally only avoid cow products that come from the death/harm of the cow. Dairy products are not only accepted they are regarded as sacred and vital to the diet (particularly among the Southern Indian groups who are often vegetarian.

Some things to note about Hinduism:

Honestly cow slaughtering have more serious consequences in Nepal than India. I mean nobody can slaughter the cows in Nepal. You can’t find any beef dish in most of the restaurants in the country. @Actually_insane_af only 13 states have ban on underage marriage. 4 states have no age limit. If parents sign off on it, minors can marry adults (happens 86% of underage marriages). For many it's a way of trafficking (the R. Kelly case for example)
The last I checked, this was banned in the U.S., parental consent or not. There might be one state that still allows marriage at the age of 15 if a judge approves with parental consent, but that is hardly child marriage as per history, which involves prepubescent children.

I always believed child marriage was a cultural thing rather than religious. It was something that happened everywhere so… Christian’s, Jews, Hindu, Muslims and Sikh all practiced it at some point. Didn’t Muhammad marry a 6 year old, and consummate the marriage when she was 9? By all accounts I would say a 6-9 year-old is definitely a child and not mature enough or developed to be considered an adult.
They take actual brain development into account as well, and life stages and childhood milestones have been extremely well studied. If it was me I'd say 18 across the board minimum. I'm a RN and this is what I'm basing my comment off. We don't make rules based on outliers, it is based on what is typically expected. Those things have been learned through long term studies, data collection, anatomical structure observation and identification, and years of scientific research. Adulthood in the Western world is typically 18. Just because our governments may have some idiotic marriage or consent laws making it earlier in some states or places doesn't mean the brain is suddenly an adult at that age now. Politics and science don't often agree. Let's not pretend this is about religion anymore in 2024.

I mean, you generally can symbolically do anything, as long as everyone involved is consenting. Like, I physically cringe from the tradition of the ransom on the wedding, but as long as it's just symbolic and the couple and the fiancée's family are all into it, it's none of my business. I can (and probably will if I ever encounter it for real) refuse the invitation to their wedding if I know that they are going to do it though.

In India, there used to be a practice very similar to widow strangulation named 'Sati' where they used to burn the womens alive.British colonial rulers luckily banned that too. Some of our noble mens advocated for the ban.
