    The bones didn't just deform during foot binding. They literally broke the bones in the foot and toes. Sometimes, they would even insert pieces of glass or pottery around the toes to induce infection to make them die and fall off, creating an even smaller foot.

    Hindus generally only avoid cow products that come from the death/harm of the cow. Dairy products are not only accepted they are regarded as sacred and vital to the diet (particularly among the Southern Indian groups who are often vegetarian.

    • @Sojoboscribe
      @Sojoboscribe Месяц назад

      @@Meggzilla No way. In fact to return their karma to normal after long trips abroad some really orthodox Hindus will swallow a pill made of the five sacred products of the cow; milk, ghee, curds, dung, and urine (at one time some Hindus would also consecrate the tables they ate at by covering them with cow dung and then covering that with mango leaves. I assume they no longer do that, for health and hygiene reasons.)
      But no beef, no leather, probably no cheese since you get rennet by slaughtering a calf and getting it from the stomach lining (maybe non animal rennet cheese is okay, same as it is for those who keep kosher.*) and (assuming anyone still uses it) no making gamboge (a kind of yellow brown pigment used in paint. The traditional way to get it was to feed a cow mango leaves (which it had a hard time digesting) then collect the pigment from the dung. Nowadays I think they use the vegetable form you can get from the sap of many trees in the Garcinia genus (including mangosteens.**)
      * Paneer, while it looks like a cheese, is actually coagulated with lemon or other citrus juice, so it is okay.
      **That sap is also poisonous, so if you see any bright yellow sap spots on the rind on a mangosteen, wash them off before eating (if you consume the rind for health reasons). And if there's any yellow inside the fruit, throw that one away.

    Some things to note about Hinduism:
    11:30 Polygamy was not at all encouraged. It was only okay in stories of Gods or if you're a King(for ensuring a successor) and not if you're a regular human.
    20:15 Cremation on open pyres is still practiced all over India. Although now there are specific cremation locations where this is done generally near a river as that's where you spread the ashes after.
    21:39 Cows are sacred but nobody avoids milk products in India. In fact it's the opposite. The reason why cows are sacred is because they provide milk/milk products and that's an integral part of Indian diet as well as all the edible offerings provided to the Gods in rituals. Indians are largely vegetarian but they'll be the last people to become vegan!
    23:14 Child marriage was just arranged marriage done prematurely. The guy would be slightly older as it was rightly believed that girls emotionally mature faster than boys but they were both underage and in a similar age range. I am sure in some cases there were guys who were 40 marrying girls who were 15 but that's not the norm and nobody even back then thought that was okay. It was rightfully banned obviously and now the legal age for marrying is 18 for girls and 21 for boys since it is still believed that boys are 3 years dumber than girls!
    I know this because my grandparents were married when they were 15 & 13 which I always thought was crazy.
    Bonus:
    A Hindu practice that was also rightfully banned centuries ago and is very famous is 'Sati.' It was similar to widow strangulation but worse because you had to sit in his funeral pyre with his head on your lap and get burned alive with him to ensure the whole "stay together for the next 7 lives" thing.

    If the vulture population hadn't decreased then Dakhma wouldn't be an issue since vulture's feces have antiseptic in it so it would prevent the spread of infections since it would essentially be sanitizing their living area.

    • @rsl08
      @rsl08 6 дней назад

      What the video failed to mention is the main reason why Dakhma was banned. It was directly causing the decline of vulture populations especially near the Towers of Silence were the ritual was in place.
      Basically the chemicals they mentioned were very much present in humans thus the consumption of their corpse lead to vultures getting poisoned as a result and dying.
      Basically, we got so full of chemicals that animals that ate us for millenniums, if they end up eating us now, get food poisoning.
      It goes to show how toxic we got in the last century due to diets, chemicals and pollution.

    Apart from showing social status and conforming to beauty standards, foot binding in women in China also aimed to limit their movement. Back in the days, aristocrat women were rarely allowed out their bedrooms, let alone houses, except on the day of their marriage, when they meet their husband for the first time and move to his house. The idea of a women being hidden away from society, and not needing to undergo labour work (for instance, peasants didn’t bind their feet’s because they had to do farm work) was the ideal for a upper-class lady, just shows how low women’s status was in ancient China.
    Also, foot binding was NOT affiliated with any religion in China, it was just a practice of the Han Chinese women. Though the actual origin is unclear, it’s often to have originated from an emperor’s fascination over small feet (as it made dancers look dainty), and grew to become the beauty standard of China, then associating the practice with the moral standards of an upper class lady

    • @therealspeedwagon1451
      @therealspeedwagon1451 15 дней назад +1

      It was never about beauty standards, it was about control. China was and still is a very patriarchal society. Binding the feet of a woman kept her shackled to the house and meant she was at the mercy of her husband, which mind you was also often an arranged marriage. These women were treated like the property of men.

Even if everyone else approves of the marriage, it would still be forbidden if the other woman that the man is married to doesn't approve of it. ONLY in some circumstances can it be favored to marry a second woman, and it's VERY rare to find one that doesn't require the first woman's approval, like for example: protecting a woman from being exploited.

      Islam doesn't promote it which is true but Islam sadly allows it and the criteria are basically as long as your first wife knows and you treat both equally in love, money protection etc then you're allowed. You need to love both equally which won't work because you can't like two people exactly the same you will always love one more than the other. And it's not true love if you love another woman while married. Plus you can protect a woman in a billion more ways than marrying her out of love. Have a great day and hopefully some people will realize that polygamy is wrong no matter what and that true marriage and true love can only be achieved by 2 people. Not three not four but two people only. One man one woman is true love not one man and 2 woman etc

    Another banned practice worthy of note was Sati. A practice in Hinduism where a widowed woman would throw themselves onto their husbands funeral pyre as a sacrifice.
    Once they were in power in the 19th century, the British began cracking down on the practice and made it punishable. Then in 1987, the Indian government passed the Sati (Prevention) Act, which banned glorification of the practice in the hope of shunning those thinking of engaging in such an act from doing it in the first place.

    6:06 there was also a Congolese man a couple months ago who set himself on fire in order to bring attention to the genocide occurring in the democratic republic of Congo.
    I can try my best to summarise, but I would advise looking up friends of the Congo. So many Congolese people are forced to work in dangerous and toxic mines in order to obtain minerals that are in our devices. They are paid so little it is akin to slavery. Children work in the mines. Sexual violence is often used as a weapon of war within the country. A lawsuit was filed a while ago to hold large tech companies such as Google, Apple, Dell accountable for profiting from the slave labour as the minerals such as Coltan are used in their products. They were sadly not held accountable at all.
    I would encourage anyone reading to read more on the conflict, I have a folder on my phone of posts and articles about it that I can also mention if that will help. We need to force these corporations to stop using minerals born of bloodshed and violence.

So they Objected her marital union with Lord Shiv.they would always insult her for marrying him.once at a yagna,they insulted her she had enough she gave up her mortal body by jumping into a fire,she was later reborn as Parvati.
      Widow remarriage was permitted in Hinduism.

    18:25 I actually jumped in my seat when he mentioned Kuru so here we go:
    Kuru is a degenerative brain disease caused by Prion Proteins (Misfolded Proteins) found exclusively in Papua New Guinea as recently as the 1960’s. Kuru, the same as other Prion diseases like CJD and FFI, is 100% fatal, the longest anyone has survived with a Prion disease was three years. Prions are only track able after death, the brain will have small holes or spongy parts in the middle. Prions cause cellular death in the brain, leading to conditions like memory loss or slurred speech. Kuru itself causes dramatic weight loss, rhythmic jerking of the body, loss of motor skills, difficulty swallowing, aches and pains and uncontrollable fits of laughter.

Like, I physically cringe from the tradition of the ransom on the wedding, but as long as it's just symbolic and the couple and the fiancée's family are all into it, it's none of my business. I can (and probably will if I ever encounter it for real) refuse the invitation to their wedding if I know that they are going to do it though.
