One thing You need to understand about Godzilla. He's not just an oversized dinosaur like some people seem to think. Not just a large monster. He's a Kaiju!!. A super beast. Sort of like superman in Monster form. That's were the 1998 American zilla went wrong. Not only it didn't look like Godzilla. It didn't have the invincible power of Godzilla. It also ran from gunfire. This Godzilla shows the essence of The character. If you mess with him ,he's coming for you none stop. King Kaiju!
my grand parents survived the fire bombings of Tokyo and watched the original Gojira in 1954 at the Nichigeki theater and were around to see Shin Gojira and both my grandparents passed away in 2019. I know if they saw this one it would be both nostalgia and sadness because both of them had to restart after WW2.
At that point in time, most of Takaos' fire control equipment would have been stripped off in anticipation of scrapping. So the fact that the main turrets more or less hip fired and successfully scored several hits on godzilla was a testament to the gun crews. I suspect godzilla might have been outright killed if the 18.1 inch guns from Musashi would have hit him in the neck.
@michaellynes3540 Takao's main battery was a set of 10 inch guns. If those where enough to stun godzilla for a moment, then I suspect the larger much heavier 18.1 inch shell would out and out kill it due to the greater velocity and obscene mass.
I doubt it. Considering at the end of the movie even Deep Sea Pressure was shown not to be able to fully prevent the regeneration factor. It probably would've just put Goji out of comission for a long while to regenerate.
@telephonepole8366 a 18 inch HE shell detonation inside godzillas neck/upper chest region, would most likely decapitate him. That is if the shells fuse was engaged after it hit and didn't pimp walk its way thru the soft flesh. It doesn't matter anyway. He's like a bigger angriest Jason Voorhees, you know damn well homie will be back on his feet for the next movie.

@SpyroGoji9000 maybe but there's a youtube channel that live streams Toho films 24/7 without any skipping or obvious weird tricks so I wonder how they do it.
You realize they cant just be shot and explode right? They have safety feature that require them to arm after a finite distance, cuz they would damage the ship exploding too closely.... they dont have a button for Godzilla close proximity usage... lol nevermind that they were top side launchers, so likely wouldnt even have made it into the water to approach the actual target... does it even look like it would have mattered? No... no it wouldnt. Stop tryin to be "that guy"
Takao was a sort of wreck. It was supposed to be scrapped so it was never really repaired or re-armed until the mission to go home to protect the islands from Godzilla. Plus, the only place they could have loaded torpedoes or other ammo made for their weapons was Japan. Good question, though.
Man what a missed opportunity, to have the Pacific Fleet engage Godzilla in all its might and glory. If there was anyone to throw American Naval, might around and not give an F about what the Soviet thinks. Its fucking MacArthur.
Yeah. Easily weakest world building part of the movie. Mostly worked for the theme of the movie of it being only up to volunteers, wide contrast to previous Godzilla movie which was all about government solving problem with international help.
@michaellynes3540 The soviets may have the largest army in the East. But I doubt they were gonna do shit. If the Pacific Fleet decided to concentrate their forces to deal with Godzilla. If anything They have a better chance at slugging it out with Godzilla and actually winning vs. the Lone Takao, making one final stand against Godzilla. That alot of fire power when you look at the size of the Pacific Fleet at the end of the war.
@michaellynes3540 Movement or not, if a fleet of shipyard ships was able to contain and trap Godzilla. The US Naval power at 6,000 some ship, 8 Battleship and 18 Aircraft Carriers is probably more than enough firepower to dunk on Godzilla. I'm just saying... That alot of firepower.
Ok, but like, even with his impenetrable skin and healing factor.....those are fucking Battleship cannons being fired at close range. Even if he can tank them, that's still a lot of force, and at the very least that has to hurt like Hell. Really shows not only Godzilla's strength but also his refusal to back down even when in major pain.

Finally someone who gets it.
This shin and Heisei are the real Godzillas
As Honda once described it, Gojira is an atomic explosion in slow motion.
The God of Destruction
Unless we have Dr. Serizawa's Oxygen Destroyah
When Godzilla's healing factor heals his wound, it leaves a scar on his left cheek
It Sure Does
The scar was caused by the nucleat blast iirc. Thats why no matter how it heals it will leave always that scar
kind of like humans does too , just 100x more faster
Honda and Tanaka would be so proud.
Yes
The funny thing about this was every time they said, "Did we get him?" Every answer was no with Godzilla rising up again. Truly, a powerful beast 😍
2:12 was one of my favorite scenes experiencing this film in imax was a whole other level
The moment Godzilla got half his face blown off and healed, that was his way of saying, "Ha nice try human."

This is the true horror of Godzilla! He will not die until all of humanity is destroyed!
"BEHOLD! I AM DEATH! DESTROYER OF WORLDS!!"
Gotta give those gunners credit, they knew they were likely doomed, but they swung those turrets around for a point blank salvo as one final hurrah.

FINALLY A FULL VERSION OF THIS
I would love to see Godzilla destroy the RMS Titanic like how he destroyed the Takao in this scene
This movie has been out for a whole year, and not one single youtuber has a proper video of Godzilla destroying Takao without any skipping? Geez.
It's Probably because they need to find ways to avoid Getting Their Videos Blocked by Toho. just sayin. But Yeah if only.

@@shepherd2148 Common sense. If there wasn't some kind of agreement, Toho would have shut them down by now I'd think.

I like how the Takao misses a few shots initially since its moving at full speed watch when he is about to roar
Good catch!
Godzilla Minus & Transformers One win oscar

The Takao was also armed with torpedoes. Why couldn’t they fire torpedoes at Godzilla?
they don't arm at that close of a range
