    As always, a great watch. Boardgame companies should give you some perks, as your videos have really stirred my interest in buying mage knight now. Cheers and success with the channel!

    I usually never comment on youtube but I have to for you. I just want to say thank you for this playthrough/walkthrough of mage knight. I have tried watching several other videos of people doing this and they bore me to tears with 20 minutes of them doing literally nothing but talk. So ty for explaining what needs to be explained when it comes up. Also it is so nice to see you respond to so many questions in your comments section. So again ty. subscribing was an easy choice.

    You have taught me to play the greatest game I have ever played... THANKS!

    Hi Rajja29.... no, rampaging enemies are always face up, day or night. As the rulebook (walkthrough) tells us under Night Rules: "You also still see rampaging enemies. In fact, you do not need to see them - you can just listen to what horrified villagers say about their malicious attacks." Good question ! Thanks, Rick

    Thank you for doing this series and the walkthrough. It's really helped me learn the rules and I'm having such a blast with this game right now. :-)

    Never mind. I just re-watched that bit and you explained the physical resistance. Cheers!

    Thanks TheCoolCaper. I'll try to answer your questions ! Re black dice. Yes, they stay in the source, and you use them just like the red/blue/green/white - i.e. to pay costs (normally of spells for black dice). If you roll 3 dice at the start of the round, and 2 of them are black and/or gold then you re-roll them both.

  • @BoxofDelights
    @BoxofDelights  12 лет назад

    1. a crystal from your inventory (but not black or gold: they can never be in your inventory) - crystal mines are an easy way to get these; 2. a mana token from your play area (gold and black come from magical glades, skills and actions, as well as red/blue/green/white); or 3. from a mana dice from the source - you are normally limited to one die per turn.

    Hi CigarChompinSarge.... Dummy is just a "timer". The only purpose of flipping cards is to count down the number of cards left in Dummy's stack of cards... when they run out of cards the "timer" runs out and Dummy will be calling for the end of the round. So that's all the dummy cards do. I hope this helps. Rick

  • @BoxofDelights
    @BoxofDelights  12 лет назад

    Yes, that is one of the purposes of Dummy, as well as being a timer. You can take their skills from the common skill offer during a level up. And, if you do, the two you drew from your own skill deck get discarded to the common skill offer, that's right. But remember, when you level up and choose a dummy player skill you can ONLY take the advanced action in the lowest position in the advanced action offer.

    A spell has two effects: one with a single coloured mana cost, and one with a cost of one black and one coloured mana. Mana can normally come from one of three places:

  • @BoxofDelights
    @BoxofDelights  12 лет назад

    You don't really "lose". You can never "die" in this game. You are wounded to the max and must rest. But doing so, or not playing so well (or having bad luck) may mean you do not achieve the scenario's objective(s). The challenge is in trying to create a large a score as possible playing solitaire. Good question ! Thanks, Rick

  • @BoxofDelights
    @BoxofDelights  12 лет назад

    Some tactics are straight away, some you place in your player area and use when you wish, some go to you player area and activate every turn. It really depends on the context of the tactic and the text on the card. They are all straightforward, but if you need advice re a particular card, post a question ! Rick

    Hi, thanks for your comment and question ! Your reputation does not just affect recruiting, it affects your influence whenever you are "interacting with locals" - i.e. recruiting units, buying healing points, learning new spells and advanced actions, and interacting with cities (using each city's own interacting options). Good question! thanks, RIck.

    Brilliant move: take the wounds so you can make the attack. I've been playing too conservatively. I probably would have beaten the second castle in my first solo conquest had I done this.

    If the gargoyle has an armor of 4 and physical resistance, don't you need 8 attack?

  • @BoxofDelights
    @BoxofDelights  12 лет назад +1

    During the day you cannot spend black mana. So, if you want to cast the higher cost spell,you must do so at night. It's as simple as that ! If you are still stuck, give me a shout. bye, Rick

  • @fitz33
    @fitz33 12 лет назад +1

    Quick question. Why was it that you needed to generate an attack of 4 to defeat the gargoyle's defence of 2 (after the the fire sword skill had taken effect)?

    Question about the monastery: It's not always good to plunder a monastery right? I mean, it's not GOOD at all ? You don't get new advanced action cards if you plunder it,right? Btw I'm not sure if it is - plundering or burning it down, I think it was burning it down, and then it's nothing left of it, just your shield token and some kind of rewards.. But , what do you think :D? Thanks! I REALLY HOPE that you don't mind my questions! I just really want to get into theee "GAME ZONE" :)) ! Thanks!

    Can't see it written anywhere

    Love the series (including this one and Space Alert)! Got a question on Reputation, though -- what does it help with? I heard it gives +/- X influence (depending on what space you are on), but is that only for recruiting, or is that for any time influence is used (e.g., Monastery, in-town healing, etc as well)?
    Hope to have the game soon; your series is making me excited! :)

    Question when you explored and placed the Orc on the board at night shouldn't it have been face down?

  • @MennoX90
    @MennoX90 12 лет назад

    yes you need 8 physical attack or 4 elemental (fire or ice) attack

  • @TheCoolCaper
    @TheCoolCaper 12 лет назад

    And another question about the spell cards: I really don't get it at all! When I want to choose the more powerful skill, what do I have to do ? Use a mana token of the color listed and a mana die from the source ( if i haven't used it of course) or just two mana tokens from my inventory (if i have any!) with the listed color? And When I can use the "second"/the darker/stronger or what ever side of a spell card? During the night only or during Day too ? I can't get it at all:( ! Thanks..

    Hi there, I have two short questions:
    1. What options do you have if you have 5 wounds in your hand and no "normal" cards (to get rid of this wounds)?
    2. What are the lose conditions in solo games (I dont think you said anything about that in the previous game)?

  • @BoxofDelights
    @BoxofDelights  12 лет назад

    You plunder villages, and burn down a monastery. And yes, it can be GOOD. You get an artefact and artefacts are just about the most powerful cards in the game. But remember, you need to fight a defender (who will appear if you try to burn it down) first.

    Hey ya Ricky! I've recently bought the game. I have already tried to play a few games,but I did it all wrong! I've watched all of your videos connected with the "Game Walkthrough" and thanks to you I was able to play a normal game without any rule break! But I still have some questions: If I roll black dice during night, it stays in the source and I can use it,right? If I roll 2 black dices and a random color but not gold, do they stay in the source, or I should re-roll them?

  • @TheCoolCaper

    More questions(hope you don't mind):Imagine it's night and the dummy player has no cards in his deed deck, and he has declared end of round, and I have only one turn left. I have only 3 cards left in my deed deck, and I'm stuck (e.g. swamp,lake).I am confused: I draw these 3 cards left, and what?My hand limit is FIVE (e.g. command token is level 1-2 and on the right side is written 5 action cards).So,what do I do now? I play these 3 cards only,right? I don't draw new cards from the disc. pile?

    With the spell offer, are you supposed to replenish it immediately or merely at the end of a turn?

  • @MrNurglis

    you could've used healing at the village.

    Hi Ricky! Thanks a lot for these videos! I am considering purchasing this game.
    Question: Why did you pay 6 influence to get the Ice Shield advanced spell? Since the influence cost is not on the card where does that number come from?

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  8 лет назад

      +Saulo Silva thanks Saulo! 6 influence is the cost to buy an Advanced Action (that's ANY advanced action) from the Unit Offer when you are at a monastery.

  • @scottsmartky
    @scottsmartky 12 лет назад

    Okay, you skipped explaining how you recruit the advanced action card you picked up. I didn't see any numbers on the cards like the units have. Is it a fixed cost of 6 or am I missing something? Btw, your videos have shifted me from buying Wrath of Ashardalon to Mage Knight so thanks.

    Question for the dummy player.When I read about the dummy player,I was so confused,I was like:" WHAT THE?" But now,as you have said in ur vids: "I can't imagine the game without the d.player".I have a question about the common source. When I discard the d.player skill token in the common source,I can "choose it" instead of my skills right? If I do so, do I have to discard the two skill tokens that were in my skill token pile and I didn't choose because i picked the d.player? Or I turn them back?

    really enjoying watching these as its been so long since i played mage knight. got the box out right now to take over to my mates this weekend! just checking though, shouldnt your attack be 8 due to the physical resistance of the gargoyle? great play through. thank you!

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  7 лет назад +2

      i did 2 Fire attack, taking his armour down from 4 to 2, so i then need to do 2 physical attack, double due to resistance; so 2 Fire plus 4 Physical did the job. Thanks fir watching - hope you have a great game !! Cheers, Ricky

    What are your options if you have 5 wound cards in hand ? Nothing ? It's over for you?

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  9 лет назад

      +myrec8883 It's not that bad... You do something called a 'slow recovery'. Basically, you discard one wound and end your turn by drawing back up to your hand limit (i.e. you're going to draw another card, hopefully a non-wound card), then on your next turn you can either (a)rest by discarding your single non-wound card and all your wounds and ending your turn once more, hopefully drawing a full and decent hand, or (b) playing a turn with the cards now in your hand. So recovery can be quick, and without losing too much time. Hope this helps! Rick.

  • @BoxofDelights
    @BoxofDelights  12 лет назад

    You get no more cards. If there are only 3 cards left then you play with just the 3, and you congratulate yourself on timing your play through the deck well.

    Question about the Tactic cards: When I choose my tactic card (Day,Night) do I HAVE TO DO what it says immediately or I can choose to do so during ANY of my turns ? I always wonder about that, and I do what you do in your videos. But in this video I saw that you activated your Night tactic later in the Night, not at the beginning of it? Thanks :D ! (sorry about the questions again :X, I hope you dont mind :) !
