    “That was not helpful” such a quintessential English understatement…lol…I do love our English understatements which are often used to great effect… the classic scene in Monty Pythons Holy Grail …” tis but a mere scratch “ …having lost most of his limbs, is another great example …I have lived all over the world and never really found another country which uses the “understatement” to the same effect …

    Put me into the "would like to see a PvP combat" camp. I am enjoying the series so far. It even showed me that we played a rule wrong. Thanks again for doing this ! The gf and i are really hooked to this game actually... epic game.

    You're welcome... Ep1 of series 3 is being uploaded so will be available soon. It's an introduction to multi-player and will lead us into Ep2 where we look at PvP combat. Enjoy !

    resting is used to discard wound cards from your hand, and the wounds go to the discard pile, so there is no benefit doing this at the end of round. Also, I had no wounds in my hand as it goes. I hope this helps !

    Hi Niclas, just in case (now I've had a chance to answer all your questions), to clarify: one Round is one Day or one Night; one Turn is the two parts of Movement/Action (or Resting), playing cards from your hand, then following End of Turn (i.e. re-rolling mana dice, clearing play area, rewards, levelling up, drawing hand back up, etc.).

    I just finished a Solo Conquest with Tovak, and I don't >think< I played anything incorrectly (I hope). But I'm following your series with interest to compare notes, because your Walkthrough video taught me some things. Great work!

    At the ~7 min mark, you go 'north' through the woods to explore. Where you not allowed to explore 'east' due to the coastline? the tile you pulled would have served you better had you explored 'east', w village and plains (in hindsight, I know) also knowing if it was not a nice tile, your upcoming day would have you in woods that only cost 3 to get out of + gold from the glade?

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  6 лет назад

      Yes, exploring to the right of the tile I placed was possible also. If I didn't like the tile I could explore in the other direction later. My preferences was to explore centrally first, as I would ultimately end up going that way anyway. And like you say, the randomness of exploration means you don't know what is there until you have explored. The glade is a long way to the 'west' and you pay movement for terrain you move into, not terrain you move out of. So, yes, those hills wouldn't have blocked my way like they did if they were over to the east. Hope this helps! Ricky.

    First walkthrough mission only. But, if you like the rule, feel free to house-rule !! If you are new to the hobby you may feel this is not permissable, but once you have been playing for a while you will find house-ruling is a great way to make a game fit with you and keep it alive. I have games I would never play by the written rules because my house-rules suit me so much better :)

    Hi Ricky - around 7:30 couldn't you explore up the coastline? I think at some point you said you couldnt. the rules say countryside tiles must either be adjacent to 2 tiles OR adjacent to a tile that borders 2 other tiles (Rulebook, movement, 5e, first bullet) - unless i misunderstand the second half of that statement "adjacent to a tile that borders 2 other tiles"

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  5 лет назад

      Yes, I could have done. I was thinking ahead and about the Core tiles. But yes, that would be a legitimate spot for a Countryside tile. Good point !

      @@BoxofDelights i have another question, i'm sorry that it's unrelated but i cannot find a definitive official answer, i'm curious your opinion - Amotep Freezers have a unique 'hollow shield' icon next to their 'target enemy does not attack and gets armor -3' ability. This symbol is not defined in the rulebook anywhere, it is different than the block symbol. do you know if this can be used during seige/ranged attack phase?

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  5 лет назад

      The intent is of the icon is that this is an effect you use in the BLOCK phase only. It's not properly defined, but that's the idea.

    Gold mana is also used to power the powerfull effect of spells right? So i don't see the difference. Or is is that gold mana can be any basis color mana and black can only be black mana? But what spells require black mana then?

  • @MarkKnights
    @MarkKnights 10 лет назад +1

    The orc had Brutal as an ability. Does the fire block negate the need to generate double the damage in block to reduce it down? If so is that the same with an Ice Block?

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  10 лет назад +1

      Brutal does not need extra block (that's Swiftness). Brutal means it does twice as much damage if left unblocked. Hope this helps :) best wishes, Rick

    I did not thought that I can combine fire attack with physical attack as you just showed for an enemy with physical resistance. Can it work with blocks (ex: an enemy with fire attack 6, can it wok if I generate 4 ice block + 4 regular blocks?)
    Thanks

    • @BoxofDelights

      Yes, you can combine attack and block types however you like. Just be aware of resistances.

    So during the night the stronger effect of a spell is harder to cast, since it requires +1 black mana to do so, in addition to the cost of 1 red/blue/green/white mana (depending on card color)?

  • @TheLemon22
    @TheLemon22 12 лет назад

    Black mana is not a "wild-card" mana like gold, it can only be used to power-up spells. Not as easily used as gold mana but its much more powerful

  • @mezzerin
    @mezzerin 12 лет назад

    ...so does that mean that you can only cast the stronger effect of a spell during the night (or a dark place where night rules apply) and NOT during the day at all? Since you cant use black mana during the day...

  • @alexcheloo786
    @alexcheloo786 11 лет назад

    With the monks is 4 fire block same as reg block ? since the orcs do physical damage ???

  • @mezzerin
    @mezzerin 12 лет назад

    Yeah, but you can activate the stronger effect of a spell during the day by using only 1 blue/red/green/white mana right?

  • @MadLadDesigns
    @MadLadDesigns 12 лет назад

    HI Rick, excellent series, looking forward to more LoD. :) Just a query, you used the monks to block for 4 but it says Fire Block 4, does that mean it can still block any or just fire? As the normal action says 'Attack or Block 4".

    once per turn (i.e. multiple times, once per turn, in one round)

  • @MrIgor20011
    @MrIgor20011 10 лет назад

    For Rethink, does it mean the discarded cards shuffled into the D-deck can be replayed again that turn? It seems to me just for the end of round tactic, otherwise it is too good to be true.

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  10 лет назад

      MrIgor20011 it is "when you take this tactic" - i.e. it is for the start of a round only, if you do not like your starting hand.

  • @mezzerin

    I am confused, is black mana at night the same as gold mana during the day. So it can be used as any basis color mana?

    • @BoxofDelights

      +Istvan Fazakas because the attack was Blocked, no damage gets through. You only use your armour and take wounds if you leave the attack unblocked (or cannot totally block it).

    Great series! Played my first game of Mage Knight last night and your videos helped tremendously. Quick question- your special ability (skill)- after using it to defeat the Orc, you unflipped it at the end of your turn. I was under the impression that you can only use a special ability once per round. Could you please help clarify that? Thanks Ricky Royal

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  10 лет назад +1

    I was confused by spell cards and action cards, i realize that now.
    Just to be sure:
    - action cards top ability plays for free always (day and night)
    - action cards bottom ability always requires 1 basis color mana, but never black mana (and can be used day and night)
    - spell cards top ability is powered by 1 basic color mana (during day and night possible)
    - spell cards bottom ability only during the night (or a dark place where night rules apply) and requires 1 basiscolor mana + 1 black mana

    really enjoying your series... just a comment/question... you are in the night time... and you have plenty of black manna... it is my understanding of the rules, that black manna at night equals gold manna at day time equals universal manna to be used instead of any basic manna? So why so much problem with travelling when you could use your manna token and a black manna manna from the manna pool to power the cards?
    thanks again for all the good work.. really great vids

    Say an enemy has 6 attack. A unit has three block and four armor. He can only take one wound except if poisoned? Can another unit, with an armor of say 3, take the rest of the blunt and end the attack? I go through your videos often, sometimes an entire series in a three hour+ time frame. The rule book states a unit can only take one wound. Please clarify and thanks again as always!!

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  10 лет назад

      MrIgor20011 a unit will only take 1 wound, yes, unless the attacker has poison. If the unit has 4 armour then it soaks up 4 of the 6 attack damage, leaving 2 left to assign. If you have another unit with 3 armour, then yes, that unit can take a wound and end the attack. You have it spot on ! best wishes, and thank you for watching, Rick
