    As someone who has suffered with fibromyalgia for decades I can attest to the sad fact that where women are concerned, many of our health issues are minimized or even denied by health care providers. I wish Amy the best in learning how to manage and live with this difficult diagnosis.

      @mm-ln9sw 6 месяцев назад +10

      i also have fibromyalgia, my own best friend thinks i’m full of shit. it’s hard. i’ve been dismissed by doctors before too. sometimes when i’m feeling misunderstood by those around me, i guiltily wish i had something worse wrong with me, something “real” and “valid” bc i am invalidated constantly, i look “perfectly fine” of course, so it’s hard for people to understand what i am going through day to day. i should be thankful for the health that i do have, but sometimes the lack of people understanding that it’s a real condition and not something they can just dismiss and tell me to snap out of, it rly gets to you. i’ve learned to accept the fact that not everyone will understand bc they just can’t, most of the time. it is what it is. i’m there with you ❤

      @@mm-ln9sw I am so sorry to hear you are still going through b.s. like this. Your bestie is anything but if they keep denying what you’re going through. In general, people tend to not be able to understand or merely sympathize with people who have “invisible” health issues. I also have had back surgery that left me with nerve damage, and back patients suffer from the same lack of understanding or compassion. But, imo, what is most devastating is when your own health care providers don’t take you seriously.
      I have had a couple of wonderful doctors over the years. One was a neurologist I had a consultation with for pain medication. He mentioned it was a med he gave to his patients with MS (MS patience also spent years having their symptoms denied). When I replied that “Thank goodness I don’t have MS; at least FMS isn’t progressive,” he very seriously said to me, “That may be true. But fibromyalgia is a devastating condition to have. It may not rob you of years in your life, but it robs you of the quality of your life.” I was thunderstruck to have a doctor say this to me.

    Aye, aren't steroids grand? I've been on high dose steroids twice in my life for an autoimmune disorder (4-5 month course, which is considered 'long term'). No matter what you do, how much salt you cut out or low your caloric intake is, you WILL develop moon face and all the unfortunate physical changes steroids bring with them. If you can get off them (depending on what your treatment is for), everything is reversible and goes back to normal eventually, but yeah - it's a really rough road in the meantime. There's a reason steroids are considered last resort treatment. It's not just the physical - it wrecks your bones, skin, stomach and takes a toll on your organs too. Still, it's a life saving (or extending) medication. Hope Amy's treatment is successful and she's able to taper off and feel like her normal self again soon.

    • @DivaDelgado128
      @DivaDelgado128 6 месяцев назад +5

      Totally agree. After breaking out in hives for a few months, I was on a month-long course of steroids. I developed moon face and put on about 20 lbs. Now that I'm off it, I'm working hard to get healthy. My prayers are with anyone that has to be on this medication for a long time because it will alter your body. Thank you for sharing your story and I hope you're doing well.

    • @Kristin2885
      @Kristin2885 6 месяцев назад

      @@DivaDelgado128 I had acute ITP (immune system destroyed all my platelets) - so I've done the steroid regimen twice and luckily went into remission both times. I try to enjoy every day because I know it's probably inevitable it will happen again at some point, but I've been in remission for 2 years now, so I'm grateful. It definitely affects so much when it comes to the body and some things are irreversible, but for me, it's a small price to pay for getting to stay alive. Congrats on getting off it - don't worry - everything genuinely does go back to normal as far as moon face, weight, and that Cushings type "look". It just takes time. Best wishes to you!

      Don’t forget steroids’ effects on mood and mental health, too. And people with diabetes are especially at risk for great increases in their blood sugar from them.

    • @Kristin2885
      @Kristin2885 6 месяцев назад

      @@merkinidgit Yes, even people without diabetes are at serious risk for high blood sugars or getting tipped into diabetes when on steroids. Both times I've been on them, I very stringently cut out sugar and salt to try to help lessen the effects. Also, when you taper down and off - a lot of people don't warn you about the horrendous mood swings and depression and bone pain that comes with it. Both times I should have been happy that my treatment was working and that I was tapering off, but my mental health went into such an unexpected dark place. It takes weeks and often months to recover back to your natural baseline level.

    These awful side effects are not uncommon with steroid treatments. My mom had rheumatoid hepatitis. The standard treatment is large dose steroids. She developed _all_ of the side effects. She named her hump. That was cute. But otherwise, it was awful for her. She got the moon's face, too. It's not fun. She went to another doctor who did a newer and less common treatment. The symptoms went away, and she's fine years later. But she had to fight everyone for months telling her doctors that this wasn't working for her and something else had to be done. She was correct. I wish Amy the best. I hope she's healthy again soon.

    Wishing Amy and all suffering with such a disease all the very best. I'm assuming that those judging her appearance are absolutely flawlessly perfect? It's just a way of trolling women and it's completely unacceptable. Amy, you're beautiful, just as you are. In fact, all women are beautiful, just as they are!

    There is so much more to this, I’ve battled this for over 14 years. It’s a rare disease and it is extremely morbid. It destroys every aspect of your body and life.
    It can take sometimes at least 6 years to get a diagnosis. I’m in bed today
    In so much pain and look and feel terrible.

    I don't care for her political views but that doesn't give me license to wish for anything bad to her or anyone else. I've seen this happen to many women before, and it reminds me of the late Heather O'Rourke before she had passed away. My old male co-worker and his family suffered from severe psoriasis, arthritis, and eczema (can't remember the exact name of the illness) which required them to use steroids regularly. I'm sorry anyone has to go through this, but it's harder when you're being analyzed under a microscope by people who are harshly critical about appearance. People critique those in the public eye because they think it's part of a work evaluation where appearance is a scale to be judged. Sorry Amy, hope you get well soon and that you're not in any physical pain from the disease.

    Let me guess, PCOS ? Or maybe fibromyalgia? You’re eating the wrong stuff and not dealing with stress if your body is rebeling . Drs tried that catch all diagnosis with me as well and threw pain pills at me, that’s it. Get your body back in shape and your mind will follow.

    My own mother is first to comment on my appearance. Never lets me forget it! She has struggled with her weight for 40 plus years and while she is doing AWESOME right now and walking and eating healthy and lost 60 pounds, if my stomach looks bloated whatsoever she immediately ask if I am pregnant. Well jokes on her cause I have gained about 25 pounds in my 30s due to health issues. I just tell her "nope not preggo just fat!!!".
    I love my Mom but she is one where I could literally spend two hours styling my hair and she will ask if I am even gonna bother to brush it. She worries too much about what others think and I really just do not care! I try to take care of myself but its my life and i am not perfect. Now I find that my 13 year old daughter is overly worried about herself. I am trying to teach her to feel confident and beautiful no matter what but I am afraid my mother has rubbed off on her on top of being 13 in todays tik tok world :/
