I'm a beginner at sewing. I bought some nursing pants for school and I cut them way too short. I was so mad at myself. Scrubs for nursing schools are not cheap even if they tell you they are affordable and you need to buy at least 2-3 sets. So, thank you for this tutorial. It helps me a whole lot.
My 5yr old daughter got taller after Christmas break and all of her school uniforms pants are now short ( high waters) Thank you so much for the video it’s very helpful
You're sewing skills are amazing! This video is very detailed and precise, exactly the information I need... now I'll just forward this video to my wife!😉🤣 ...Thanks!
Hi Emily-Sew Happy. Thank you so much for this tutorial. You explain things slowly and nicely. Others talk and move too! fast. I’ve been sewing clothing for pets. But I now what to learn alterations. The two are so different. I’m starting with pants and then on to the next. Dresses, shirts, skirts until I learn everything. And again thank you.
Hi Rebecca. I'm glad it was helpful! And yes, alterations are much different than sewing clothing from scratch. I'm sure you'll be able to learn it all. It is a great skill to have.
Sew Happy...thanks so much for the demonstration. I have some light creme slacks that fit nicely everywhere except they are too short for my height. I was just about to seam rip the hem and take out the serged hem, when I thought about searching for ideas here, and found you. Glad I watched your demonstration, and know-how! Thanks again, God bless!
Love this! As a taller plus size lady it's hard to find pants long enough. This is a genius solution on a sewing level that I can actually recreate at home. How fun would it be to use a bold pattern or bright colors for the secret hidden panel!?! Thank you so much for this!
I'm so glad to hear this helped! And oh my word fun prints on the inside would be incredible! Such a great idea. Please send a picture when they're done, I'd love to see how it turns out
Great video. Thank you. I wonder if you have tips when you don't have enough hem to lengthen? Can you do a video where you add some extra fabric to make it longer? I have some stretchy pants that I need to lengthen but I need to add fabric to the bottom. I would like to add something funky, to make it look like it's supposed to have the extra hem. I'd love to see how you do that. :)
Hi Sue! Great question! Ironically, I just did that to a pair of jeans about 3 weeks ago, so I can definitely post a video on how to add length, add something quirky, and make it look intentional. I'll let you know when it's posted, it usually takes me a couple weeks to get videos edited and up. :)
Hi Sue! I finally got the first video edited! These are my new favorite pants, so thank you for the suggestion on lengthening them in a fun way. Let me know what you think, and I've got one more lengthening video coming this week. :) ruclips.net/video/KW72kjuKFuU/видео.html
Great question! New Jean's shouldn't have any kind of holes or wear on the hem yet, just be really really careful when you seam rip them :) worst case scenario you can always put the original hem back in if it doesnt turn out the way you want
@@ReadyEmKay thank u, I'm going to try with one of my navy jeans to bring the hem down and iron it out, fingers crossed it works out. I was worried holes might show through from where the hem was previously. We shall see. 🤞💕
Hi! The cotton adds length to them. It allows you to keep the hemline 1-2 inches above the bottom of the pants. Otherwise the hemline would be right on the bottom. That way no one can tell they've been altered from the outside. Hope this helps! Have a great day!
I would do the same process, yes. If you can iron the hem line out, re-stitch the blind hem, otherwise sew into the old hemline to get rid if it. Depending on the wear, suit trousers should be able to iron out. Especially if you have a permanent ironing cloth like this one: www.wawak.com/Pressing-Spotting/Pressing-Accessories/rajah-pressing-cloth-30-x-12/?sku=MSC6 that helps get out really deep wrinkles. Hope this helps!!
I'm glad you found it helpful! I used a Brother SE400 for this project. It's actually am embroidery machine but you can detach the embroidery tool and use it as a regular machine. www.amazon.com/Brother-SE400-Combination-Computerized-Embroidery/dp/B003AVMZA4/ref=as_sl_pc_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=sewhappy05-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=482736f2635b7088fb412ec12f3b9bf1&creativeASIN=B003AVMZA4 If you are looking for something without an embroidery tool though, I have had a Brother XR9500PRW for over 5 years and would recommend it to anyone. It sews very well, is easy enough to use for a beginner and also has enough stitch capabilities for someone more advanced. www.amazon.com/Brother-XR9500PRW-Project-Stitches-Quilting/dp/B005GXPOAM/ref=as_sl_pc_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=sewhappy05-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=678986db6d07ce2c537e30f809e8f4ad&creativeASIN=B005GXPOAM Hope this helps! *these are both affiliate links, which means that at no cost to you Amazon pays me a small percentage for you using my links.
Sew Happy ah I see would you recommend the brother FS40 or the brother fs100? I've been looking at these on amazon u.k you see what do you make if these two? I'm in the U. K by the way.
zombiejase I’ve never used either but they look like good machines. The fs100 has more stitch functions but they are all decorative stitches. So if you plan on doing heirloom sewing it would be nice but that’s really the only difference I see. The basic needed stitches are in both machines. Hope this helps!
Sew Happy I was going to ask you a question about putting some zips in the bottom of some cargo pants and how I would go about it, also I'm unsure on how to unpick the side stitch on them as it's kind of a double stitch? I could show you a picture of what I mean if you drop me your email address? Thanks again

Thank you! A great solution for too short pants!
Thanks! I'm glad this was helpful.
Tq sooooo much ❤️❤️❤️ i am from Malaysia 🌸
Super helpful despite/thanks to the simplicity. Sewing on the crease is a stroke of genius.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed! :)
Thank you so much 💕
I am going to try this one...
So helpful for me..
Love from Sri Lanka :)
WOW! Great idea!! I just bought a couple pairs of jeans that I can use this idea on!

@@ReadyEmKay Thank you☺
Vinegar in water before ironing will remove the factory crease.☺️
Oh wow! I'll have to try that. Thanks!

Rose Richardson hi! I’m so glad you found my video and it was able to help you. Thanks for the kind words!
You're so welcome, and btw, the creme pants re-do looks good, I would have been lost without your demo, :)

Thank you for the video, really appreciated it :-) Could be good to add a bit more light (to balance the daylight from the window) for the next video.
Hi! I'm so glad you liked the video. Thanks for the feedback. Im working on a new lighting setup now :)

I bought new jeans that are too short. I'm kind of afraid to bring down the hem in case it will make the ends look holey?

where is the cotton for, to strengthen the trousers?
Hi! The cotton adds length to them. It allows you to keep the hemline 1-2 inches above the bottom of the pants. Otherwise the hemline would be right on the bottom. That way no one can tell they've been altered from the outside. Hope this helps! Have a great day!
Would this work the same for denim pants?
Hi! It works the same, just be aware that theres a lot less fabric to work with on the bottom of Jean's as compared to trousers. :) best of luck!!
Is it exactly the same for suit trousers? As they tend to have a blind hem stitch
