  • Upgrading My Off Road Camper | Redarc Red Vision
    My camper electronics failed me on a 2 week through the Pacific Northwest, so its time for an upgrade. I ordered the Red Vision and Manager 30 kit from Redarc. In this video I’ll go over the general process of upgrading a camper, off road or not, to this system, and what the hardware is capable of. Stick around and find out what makes this one of the most impressive pieces of hardware on the overland market.

    Great video mate. Not an instructional video but a well put together informative video.
    I got my redivision delivered plus two 200 watt solar panels and a 170 lithium battery. All Australian made well it will fit right in seeing the camper is Australian made in my garage. Thanks for supporting Australian manufacturing we try to do our best.

      Australians build top notch gear. I’m behind it 100%!

      @IndependenceOverland  2 года назад

      @J M I’d suggest 100w of solar per 100ah of battery. There’s not really a calculation, it just depends how much you use. For my AC to run off nothing but solar, I need 370watts. But if I’m not using that then the batteries would be charged by 200w of solar by noon.

    • @MussaKZN
      @MussaKZN 2 года назад +1

      @J M
      Battery x panel voltage= watts
      170Ah x 19v = 3230 watts
      Watts divided by 8 hours of sun
      3230 watts divided by 8h = 408 watts of solar.
      I do have vehicle DCDC charging and I’m getting a solar blanket just in case.
      But I think the redarc system is limited to 520watts solar input.

    Cool build. We love geeking out to electrical, batteries and solar. How's everything holding up?

      I ended up selling this trailer over a year ago now, but I recently talked with the new owner and he said its awesome and working great. Redarc stuff is stout, it will last for a LONG time!

    Great video! I’m in Washington also looking to do the same. Did you consider buying any chance installing the rogue? Just for dimming, lights or ease of installation or any other perspective would be great

    How’s that camper pull? Inclines off road a no go? Can you give your experience? Thanks 👍🏻

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  2 года назад +1

      It pulls alright. It actually does better offroad than the highway. I have pulled it up some inclines with no issues. 4.56 gears help it along as well. It could use a vehicle with a tad more power, but it does okay.

    Very nice. 'I am thinking about going with this system for our van build out. Two questions. This is basically everything except a inverter right? Would I still be able to use switches for the 12v lighting? Thanks!

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  2 года назад

      You could still add a few light switches if you want simple on/off switches. I would personally mount the unit where the switches normally go for ease of use and less wiring. If your dead set on wiring a few switches, I think the way to do it would be to run your relays/switches like normal and ground them to the Redarc battery sensor/shunt so it properly measures your power use while operating the lights attached to that switch.

    What batteries did you use? What do you recc for a simple weekend rig with a fridge and lights and fans/diesel heater ?

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  Год назад +1

      50ah will do it if your using a Redarc system. That’s what my Fj has and it does incredibly well because of how fast it can charge. I’m going to publish a video on a battery pack in the next few days that’s pretty insane too, and might be a good option for you.

    Awesome video! I have a camping trailer with an absolutely miserable electrical system. I think you sold me on this system. Any chance you’re looking for a side job to help me install this?

    • @IndependenceOverland

      I'm afraid between my day job and this channel, I have very little free time. The system is solid though, you will be blown away by it! I bet you can DIY over the colder months while the camper isnt being use much. Just take your time!

    So how did you run your solar cables and plug from the rear to the TVMS?

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  2 года назад +1

      Through those scanstruts, and through/above the controller sides storage area.

      @@IndependenceOverland and for the plug at the rear you mentioned for solar input? Where was that mounted and how was that wired? I’m taking on this upgrade in this week. Trying to get all the pointers I can.

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  2 года назад +1

      @@hbdoffroad2037 I installed the rear outside solar plug between the camper body and the taillight frame. You can run the wires through the RTV sort of grommet where all the other wires run through into the camper.

    Curious to know with the weight of the 490 how your FJ fairs towing it especially up grades on the highway?

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  2 года назад +1

      I have the Fj regeared, so it helps but the Fj is heavy. It struggles on major grades like Vail pass. This camper is about 3200 dry.

      @@IndependenceOverland good to know. I’m thinking about a 490 as well. But I drive a Jeep with the Ecodiesel and was curious how your FJ fairs. Thank You Brother.

    • @IndependenceOverland
      @IndependenceOverland  2 года назад

      I know your Jeep isn’t rated to tow as much as an Fj, but that diesel sure would make it easy.
