Turned out really nice! I plan on doing this with my ZHP once I get some free time, it has the ugly silver interior that I plan on changing to black/cinnamon brown
Thanks man! If you need any help feel free to reach out. The most important thing I realized was to spray the dye in very thin coats. I've even been told that watering it down can help. If I did this all over again, I think I would have swapped seats with someone who had the silver interior because changing from black leather took so much dye. Good luck! I hope it goes well!
The New Mechanic Yeah I bet, black is definitely hard to do a color change on. Thanks for the advice! I was planning on using a seat dye that matched the paint code for cinnamon
WOW! It took you quite some time, but it turned out looking great, or as you said, Fantastic. Recently, I bought a car that has seats of the same color as yours but with a Beige interior. After watching your clips, I am sold. The Beige must go! Anyway, Kudos to you from all the way to the Horn, and yes, you have, at least, one fan all the way down here, pal.
Thanks! I'm really happy with how it turned out. And it seems to be holding up well. If you're starting with Beige I think you'll have some really good results! There's a few cracks here and there - which I think might have been filled if I used a sponge - and is showing some black through it. But overall still looks good. And thanks for watching! Exciting to see people all over the world watching!
I’ve just found your channel whilst looking for videos on changing the colour of my leather. Watched both videos prior. Definitely got a new subscriber here!!!!
Thanks for watching and glad to hear you've enjoyed the videos! At some point I gotta create a video of the finished product. Life's just been so busy. I'll get to it soon-ish I hope!
Great job bro! Could you tell how the paint is holding up? I'm planning to do this tomorrow so I would be really pleased to hear how it looks after this much time, greetings from poland
Thanks! It's seeming to hold up well! The only issue I've seen is a few cracks in the driver's seat. I think the cracks were there before but the dye closed them so it's not surprising. I'm planning on using leather filler and redyeing the cracks. But otherwise everything looks really good still! Good luck and send me pictures once you're finished!
Sorry just saw your comment! The color is called Japanese Koi (www.behr.com/consumer/ColorDetailView/P210-7). I sent in the paint sample to Leather World Tech and they matched it for me. The black is BMW's "Anthrazite" which I believe is EL296.
OMG, glad I came across your videos. Im in the process of doing this to my E46 convertible (I got the interior out but the dash, which is coming out in the next few days. That orange is perfect. I was interested in cinnamon but after your video, I’ll be ordering this koi instead. Please let me know what spray gun you used, HVLP or LVLP? Was there much overspray? All the info you can provide would be helpful.
Hey Manny! That's awesome to hear! In retrospect I think I should have used the white foam block that came in the pack to apply the dye. I think I would have used less dye and had a better finish. I was initially worried that it would leave streaks by using the foam block but I later realized that with enough coats the streaks would have disappeared. Most importantly you want to apply as thin of layers as possible. I'd also highly recommend using the adhesion promoter which did work well to spray. Also before you start you want to clean the leather as well as you possibly can. That's the most important part to get good adhesion and for it to last as long as possible. To answer your questions: I used an HVLP gun from Harbor Freight (www.harborfreight.com/120-cc-hvlp-touch-up-air-spray-gun-61473.html) though I doubt it matters which one you go with. There was a decent amount of overspray. I'm actually selling this car tomorrow so I'm planning on making a follow up video on the seats tomorrow before it goes :`(
@@mboyyy Hey I got an email saying you commented about needing an order number to get the Japanese Koi color. You might have deleted it because they got you sorted out but just incase, my order number was xxxxx. They should hopefully still have it on file.
@@TheNewMechanic Thanks Randy! They had found your order with the colour and is why I deleted the comment. But thanks for letting me know. I may ask more questions later when I’m in the process. Hope that’s okay with you.
I'm very tempted to turbo it! I think that would be a super fun project as I've never done that before and there would be a lot involved! However, we just sold our 3rd car and we'd be down to just 2 cars and can't really put the e46 out of commission for a month or more. However, we sold the 3rd car with the intention of selling the e46 and buying something else. Maybe an m3? ;) I need to eventually upload a video about that. Life's just been so busy. Thanks for watching!
@@TheNewMechanic my 650 had the infamous cracks in the dashboard. Took everything apart and had a leather cover custom tailored for the entire dashboard (that took a while). Some month or so and $300 later, I'm in the process of reassembling the dashboard and getting the seats prepped for custom paint. I'll go for an orange with a little bit of pearlescent red coloring on the seats. I think it'll look fire!. BTW, where did you get that matte black for the interior plastics?
That will look great! Good luck! This is the black paint I used: amzn.to/3h4fpeS and this is the clear coat I used: amzn.to/3h3SO27. Affiliate links if they're what you need and want to support the channel :)

What color code is the orange dye for the seats as well as the black for the trim?
I was wondering the same
