Thank you for covering this as well. I absolutely loved the comparison you made with DBD as a heartbeat. I feel like I've been on a flat-line for so long, but those limited time game modes (like My Little Oni) gave me a heartbeat again. And yeah, I do lean more to the unbalanced DBD, simply because it feels like a more variety of games happen rather than games with the same perks over and over. That's not to say I don't enjoy the game balanced as well, it's just the games start to feel stale really quickly :(

    • @JakeobE
      @JakeobE 7 месяцев назад +49

Those limited time game modes were awful. Something as simple as a perk randomizer mode for all players in a lobby would be incredible, without changing the core mechanics of the game so much so that it is unattractive after just one game.

Precisely why i stopped playing. When they started to nerf perks, changed the movement, and stuffed flashlights completely.
One of my favourite memories was a 3 gen chase against an oni, with my friend cgasing behind with a flashlight. I went down in a jungle gym eventually, and he pulled off one of the best saves I've ever seen. Fast vaultin the window with sprintburst and nlinding the killer with precise timing.
The game is ruined. Dbd is now "Devs Bad Decisions".

Seeing BHVR choose to invest in gimmicky game modes instead of fixing the massive list of the games problems was the main reason I quit tbh. They're not interested in any fixes for problems. Their idea of 'fixing' the awful onboarding for new players was to sell the perks to them better. Tells you everything you need to know about the game and company behind it.

I will say this, from personal experience...before I even had 1,000 hours in DbD, I was a Myers on Grim Pantry, against another Streamer (and her 4-man team) with a combined total of 7k hours...
And they were absolutely garbage of running, always just hiding and running into walls. Even 2-hooking them all (while the main streamer hid and then ragequit from her second hook) (this was also before bots were added) made them mad at me.
Prestige Number and Hours Played =/= Skill Level
It should, but some people (myself included) plateau and never are able to reach a higher plain of making better mind games, or carrying out exceptional loops. Hell, even the greatest players in this game only really show off most of their "best" games, or the "games they had fun in."
I applaud you for "only" doing what is needed if you need to apply direct and immediate pressure, towards the end. I think the same - I hate camping/tunneling (unless I absolutely need to apply pressure). 7 out of 10 games, I seem to get babies or subpar loopers...my own general rule of thumb I follow is, "If I dominate before 1 or 0 gens left, I go for 2 hooks on everyone, then dick around and have fun...I don't want other players to quit the game because I 'went sweaty-try-hard on them.'" Otherwise, 2 Out/2 In is my usual preference.

Balance is so poor you see the same thing every game due to MMR being implemented and it also makes the game extremely stressful depending on who you choose to play. You CANNOT balance a game around casuals while also having an MMR system, it fundamentally does not work and results in stale, repetitive and unrewarding gameplay.

    • @Spacebums
      @Spacebums 7 месяцев назад +5

I see this take a lot, and let me just say that the casual player isn't who most game studios want. They want the hardcore whales who're going to spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on their game. People who will sink thousands upon thousands of hours into their game. Yeah, you want casual players too, but if you ONLY cater to the casual player and alienate the people who are actually good at your game, your game will die. Look at what happened with Overwatch. They started catering exclusively to the casuals who weren't invested in their game and became the laughing stock of the videogame world. The exact same thing will happen to DbD if they keep pushing updates that the higher skill players don't like.

Honestly, my biggest peeve with the game right now, as you and Slush mentioned, is SBMM. Out of almost 100 games, it's mostly been utterly destroying teams (most of which seem like new players) or getting destroyed by people WAY outside of my skill level as a killer. I can literally count the number of close games on one hand. In my experience (and opinion), going between these two extremes is rather agitating because there's no middle ground for my matches and no fun. It's either be bored and feel sorry for romping on new people and apologizing to them for such a terrible game on their end, or get romped on and made fun of or mocked. Be bored or stressed, a perpetuating cycle. Again, that's my experience. Thank you guys for speaking up about this topic and I hope the game can get in a better state so it doesn't slip into nothingness.

I legitimately had more fun on DBD before SBMM - I am a solo player usually and i can vividly recall actual variety in my matches. Now? Now I only play if theres events or game modes added. Some matches, I'd be killed off quickly yeah and in others it felt rewarding to survive [if that's the right word?]
But now? Now as a 3000 hour survivor, im aware that if i load up into solo? I'm more than likely going to get fucking wiped. I'm not a competitive person, I'm a casual player; I use perks I like, but I shouldn't feel like I HAVE to bring the sweatiest build known to man just to TRY and escape. But before SBMM? I felt I could run silly perks I liked and still have fun.

The community is not simply the salt farm or sensitivity. The community is heinously tribalistic. Which in turn affects how the devs feel about making adjusts. The amount of people who cannot see the forest for the trees and moan about changes without thinking about what the reason for changes are, that tire me out. It's a huge reason why I stopped playing, and to be honest, the points touched upon compound the issue, so it tracks.
I wanted to play DBD more when i got to play Artist, cause I genuinely enjoy the cross-map sniping playstyle with her. It is one of my favourite things to chase a Survivor off a Gen and long shot a Survivor on a gen on the other side of the map, and keep track of that while dealing with a Survivor near me. Succeeding in the long shots with her is so satisfying to do. And the feeling of the game just becoming all samey with no variation makes me wonder if I bother anymore.

To me it seems like people complaining about the "loss of skill expression" are just upset they can't abuse exploits anymore, such as the locker blinds. There was no reason as to why this should have been left along as long as it was. Especially with Head-on+Flashbang combo.
Again with the Blight "techs" people complained that he "slid off too many objects" are now upset that he can't do that anymore. BHVR is fixing a "bug" but apparently the people use abused the exploit aren't happy about it. Same with Chucky flicks, it's an exploit.

But there are a LOT of people out there with 1k+ hours that have barely or never even touched killer. I've really only ever heard of this happening for the survivor side, but there might be some killers like that as well. And when you don't play both sides why would you care about proper balance? One thing I've been confused about for awhile now is why they haven't made casual and competitive their own entities. Most games do that nowadays, and while it's not a perfect system and may require more work, I feel it could be better for both new and long-time players. Forcing everyone into basically a competitive atmosphere with the SBMM, ranks/grades, and meshing new players who probably wouldn't even want to play a competitive match, with people who absolutely sweat at this game also plays into why some people get shit on when they're not doing well at the game, not to mention killers using boring strategies (like camping) to ensure they get their win. They could make competitive its own playlist, and causal its own playlist and in the casual playlist, they could also add in their temporary modifier game modes like the lights out and my little oni. Honestly, my gf still loves playing this game, but I can't stand it right now; trying to balance THE ENTIRE GAME around people who want it to be more competitive and "balanced" rather than it's og vibe of being a scary, hide from the killer game has hurt it way more than anything else I think.

So, im more of a lurker nowerdays when it comes to DBD. I've a bit over a thousand hours and stopped playing around dredges release. The reason was the extreme rise of sweattyness after SBMMR in every round. You couldn't play this game casually anymore. It was all about being "high MMR" and labeling as such. And even if not, I've noticed a strong rise in only playing the best perks, no meme build or anything anymore, and I personally think this is due to a downward spiral. With higher mmr you NEEDED to play certain perks to really do something or you were just getting stomped, so the other side had to adjust to that, so now you have to adjust to the adjustment and so on. You can't play a meme build bubba in high MMR because you would be getting stomped every round, as survivors would be running only top notch perks, as they are used to them and used to playing against those.
It just wasn't fun anymore, I miss the times with random lobbies.
Also the pool of players that were (old MMR) iri was so much bigger than the pool of high SBMMR players, so the chance of getting a chill build on the other side was so much higher too. Now you face the same pool of counters over and over again, as the player pool is just so small. That was the fun I had before.
I think you could clearly see the stuck competitiveness in players minds in the my little Oni mode. Even there some people where sweating for the 4k/Gen Rush and that was the second I realised how stuck the people already are on this comp mindset
It's really sad as this game was really my true love

I was chasing a guy when 3 gens popped as he was only 1/4 of the way of walking me through every pallet when I said. "Screw this" the game just isn't fun anymore. They don't understand that nerfing sloppy butcher/ bleed was the downfall. 75%of survivors bring either a way to heal themselves or teammates. So if you don't tunnel and hook them the survivors heal, if you chase the first guy until you catch him 3 generators will be done before you can tote him to a hook, meaning your only option is to camp the only person you've seen or go try to catch and hook the other 3 survivors 3 times a piece with only 2 gens left🤡. I did some thinking after multiple matches like this as a high MMR killer and decided that those guys can chase each other and keep their own game alive. Screw that, it's not even fun anymore

@@azombieee "100% agree with your points. It almost needs a casual mode and a ranked... It's not fun with both being one mode" that would be nice but only on paper.
Look at league. normal is just as sweaty as ranked since they are esentialy the same game. add to that the fact that people then start queuing ranked even more than normal, and normal becomes a detriment to the player pool when queuing. because they feel like they are wasting their time otherwise (they might as well climb those ranks/get that mmr if they are gonna queue at all, right? that's kind of the mindset that starts setting in once you have a ranked mode. people like acomplishing things even if it's just a game).
And also, you may get even more swfs in a "casual queue" since survivors wouldn't be losing anything relevant at all by abandoning gens and even dying by the end, but just making sure to torture a baby killer, those matches can last forever (sure, 60 minute limit, but that's a huge time nontheless), and those survivors would have an f-ing blast lol (at someone else's expense) with zero care in the world, in fact it would be a blessing for them to lose and go against even more baby killers in "normal/casual" mode, and only take ranked seriously. Same for killers, why wouldn't you try and go for max suffering builds on casual as a killer since it wouldn't even matter anymore if you won or lost mmr, just make a couple of survivors as miserable as posible for gigles since getting just a 2k or less is no longer a "danger". i know it sounds awful, but it's just how these things go.
I know at first it may seem like separating mmrs in two queues like that would make normal matches more chill, but it doesn't. sad truth. it just makes it so you get more dcs in normal, why would your temmates care if it counts as a loss? "it's not ranked". since normals qoeuldn't matter in their mind, you would also get weird semi afk teams, so if you are thinking "oh, i just wanna play a normal match, not throwing but not swf either" you'll be out of luck. more dcs, more smurfs, a smaller pool so a bigger mixture of babies and p100, more bullies, etc etc etc. and just a split player pool were ranked gets the bigger chunk (so normals become even more unpredictable in regards to how many hours/experience players have)
What works far better is to have a clearly casual mode that isn't just "normal mode but with it's own less relevant mmr", a mode with things like shuffle perks, restricted items and maps etc, like aram in league, shorter matches with mechanisms in place that guarantee so, that lessens the stakes and frustration, more focused on the action from the get go, so no gen rush or 3 gen shenanigans, aka here it would be the chases and hooks as the focus, and less on the winning conditions (and aram in league has proven throughout the years to be a stable 20% of the playerbase no matter the year or meta, waranting it's own specific qol changes throughout league's history, and it's own balancing that works differently than ranked. i'm sure the same would apply to dbd).
People for the most part love shuffle mode in dbd for a reason, despite it not being perfect (but it could very easily be tweaked into a staple casual mode if you look at maybe randomizing items, add ons and characters too)

Really is a prime example of why statistics on its own means absolutely nothing, data analysis involves the whole picture (saying this as a statistician.) It drives me fucking bonkers when experiential products (like video games) are updated and maintained purely from the data. For example, take the pick rate for killers; a 10% pick rate for a killer doesn't mean a damn thing except that 10% of players pick that killer specifically. But they use that to abstract out that "the killer must not be fun" or "the killer must not be balanced." Without additional metrics like PLAYER EXPERIENCE that 10% statistic literally means nothing except what it specifically states. Behaviour is fucking up majorly by trying to fix their game by mass data alone, they NEED to listen to the players and maintain an open forum. Especially today, there's AI to screen and filter the bullshit so its not like they can say "Our community is toxic and just is mean." They're being lazy and operating off of conclusions from abstracted data that is unrepresentative of the true game experience.
Sorry for that rant, but nothing makes a statistics guy mad like a company ignoring everything but random statistics that they think is meaningful.

I don't think "so many" content creators _are_ quitting DBD. People come and go with every game and if the sample is taken over the period of months or years, well yeah, some of those are gonna be content creators. A few will even have a large audience. But it's not really statistically significant.
That being said, I agree that skill expression being removed from DBD is disappointing. Meta perks and the map you go to have always been more important than how good either side is at the game, that is why they're so heavily restricted in comp. Once you get good at the game and go against other people who are also good, matches can feel like one big, long cutscene. Time spent holding W in chase, pallets you absolutely have to break, check spots you can't mind-game, endurance you just have to hit through, hooks that you'd have to be crazy not to camp out... And then a nearly non-existent end game because everyone has Adrenaline. You can pretty much predict the entire match from start to finish.
People haven't just optimized the fun out of the game- they've optimized the gameplay out of the game. No meaningful or interesting choices or risks are being made, just the most braindead gameplay loop possible.

The bugs and memes of dbd was why I played the game. The skill ceiling on flashlight saves was just so much fun to master and practice, and it made me play on a constant just to keep that skill and improve. In my old games, I would see survivors getting stuck on rocks, killers swinging from building to building to get on top of a pallet that you could have just taken the stun and broken, and goofy meme builds to abuse long stun spamming and burning. All of that is gone, survivors no longer get stuck or look goofy, killers can now just use a really strong power to blink through a pallet or chainsaw through it but keep going, all the goofy meme builds are now either too weak to be able to run or overshadowed by the pain of gen regression vs second chance meta and even the fun flashlight saves are so easy I just did one after having quit for a year in my first game which would have taken me three to practice and learn. There's so much pressure to "win" in dead by daylight now that it feels like we've all forgotten it's a game for fun, and running four boons, or sabo basement, or map and key was why we played it to begin with. I LOVED the keys, because it was so rewarding to survive with it, find the hatch as a group and panic leave before the exit gate was even ready. Yes that was unbalanced, but the game's win condition wasn't kills back then, it was the bp we now do not care about at all. As someone who played VHS for it's competitive side, I can enjoy a competitive scene, but dbd was never that. If they want to change it into something of the sort they still gotta make the game fun, and they seem to be too focused on the small fix for their players. It's hard to say anything a content creator is making will be seen though, I've seen it all over from dbd creators that their ideas are ignored for the corporate ladder. I miss the game, but I do wonder what makes me want to play it over say valorant, or worse, a chinese knockoff. I hope they'll hear your pleas dbd players.

I think the main flaw I'm finding with her reasoning here is that she's conflating 'fun skill expression' with 'good for the game'. Something requiring a baseline amount of learning does not automatically make it good for the game even if it's fun to learn and things that do not check both boxes at the same time absolutely should be removed, it's quite selfish to want the game to be broken just to be able to infinitely flashlight save from locker grabs for example which I assume most if not all killers would really not enjoy being on the receiving end of outside of the initial novelty. If something broken like that becomes meta then people are almost forced to do it to compete as the game will likely start to be balanced around that level of power, so removing things that aren't aren't good for the game even if they're fun to execute is a positive overall. Edit: Forgot to comment on her wanting a 'fun unbalanced dbd', that simply does not exist. It's either parasitic fun where you're abusing a broken mechanic and destroying the experience for the other side or just memories of you learning new things which is no longer possible due to time passing, people grow older and the same things that were once fun are now not due to things to learn dwindling naturally. It's not a problem, it's just life.

Ngl the MMR change basically killed any enjoyment I had of the game... It really felt like games went from fun and challenging to insanely insanely sweaty and griefy.
I'm so tired of survs giving up on hook, killers hard hard tunneling every match and survs refusing to team play because a chase was slightly too close to a gen.
I play solo queue on surv and killer about 50/50, it's just not worth playing alone anymore because it's just frustrating on both sides.

Putting yourself in the "right place, right time" is a skill and you can make a build around it. It probably won't be as good as another build, but there are still ways to be able to support your team by going for saves without outright neglecting gens. Learning the skills required to position yourself at the right place at the right time is a huge portion of survivor gameplay IMO. That said, it's still nice to be able to play with more intricate mechanics. Those mechanics that were removed were largely taken away from the game because they genuinely were unfun (obviously excluding things like sky-billy). What they should be doing (and what they are to some extent by adding in ways to remove hag's traps that aren't directly tied to one specific item) are adding new ways to support those players who loved to interact with obscure techniques.

Right place right time, til the killer just slugs because they know youre trying to save your teammate. Good luck if youre injured because they will just pinpoint your exact location.
By removing features of the game, survivor just boils down to delaying the first hook state and gen rushing while toure at advantage. Is your random not doing gens while you're in chase.. well then ggs maybe, just maybe youll have a chance of one out against any competent killer.
I escape a decent majority of my matches but i do try for saves/trades and i see my escape as a loss for the team if it's only me or another person. Bonus points if you run the killer every time for over 45 sec just for your teammates to go insta down. Theres literally nothing you can do, and if you lose too much the game just gives you baby killers. Like no joke its not fun to stomp shitty killers and then get sweated on when you have shitty teammates. Like maybe some people enjoy the ego boost but nah i just want good games like i dont mind losing if it felt good

Regardless of skill required to do a bug, if it results in something that drastically effects how a strong a killer is (Especially if said bug is platform exclusive), it shouldn't be in the game. Whether they remove it with or without compensation, I do not think they should be in the game period. As a primarily solo Q survivor nowadays, it was just plainly not fun to play a loop well/optimally against a Killer, only for them to hug tech or 180 flick to completely shutdown counterplay in that situation. I started to play DBD because it was a nice change from playing competitive games. I was a competitive gamer my whole life and I wanted something to fill the void of competitive but not have to sweat and be stressed. I originally didn't like the game but it really grew on me because it was so different and chaotic, you really never knew what to expect in a match. I learned some techs that were super fun and DBD became the perfect non-sweaty "competitive" game for me. But lately the game has felt like it's leaning towards being a full competitive game where everybody runs the same perks, MMR making every game too much work to relax in, and I only face maybe 30% of the killer pool? I stopped playing killer mostly because it kept putting me against comp players and 5k+ players when I only have ~700 hours total. I can't play with my friends now because they aren't as into it and they just get tunneled instantly and don't want to play.
It just feels like a competitive game now and I really just want to have fun. I don't care if I win or lose as long as the match was fun and interesting but every match just feels similar now.
Skull merchant should just be removed IMO. Nobody likes facing her and honestly her perks are all kind of meh.

I also wanna add. My girlfriend started playing dbd with me as she wanted to spend more time with me. She has never played games. Only some nintendo games like mario kart or animal crossing. She started around this time the previous year. And she cannot play the game for more than 3 games because she’ll get tunneled out, or just killed very quickly. So them making changes for new players doesn’t even work.
When i started playing the game back in 2019, i was an absolute noob. A streamer friend of mine had a lot of knowledge about the game and taught me and a couple of other friends the basics. I can’t say i played it a lot, but i really do understand why people miss the old game. It was way more beginner friendly. It was fun learning about little techniques and doing all that.
Ive been playing almost everyday since 2021 now, mostly solo queue until april 2022. In that time i tried to get all achievements, most adept, tried to learn the most difficult skills and techs. Because after learning most perks from doing adepts and add-on too. I needed something different to keep me going. I still dont dare to 360 but for example i got better at dh, i got better at flashlight saving, i got better at burning wraith and crows, even tried it multiple time with nurse with some success. They all removed that now and its sad.
I still play dayly tho, i still love the game, but i do agree that the games now are either a full win or an immediat (or atleast fast) lose. Its not fun for experienced players, but also not for beginners in the long run.

Oh ye i also wanted to add that there are a lot of QoL changes they shouldve added a long time ago, we now have searchbars and thats great. But a volume slider for the bloodweb? A randomizer for random perks on survivors ánd for killers? A randomizer for picking killers where u dont know which one you’ll get. More common perks for beginners? Its not that hard to program those things in and i know from experience cause i am a developer.
Also, from a developer standpoint I just really dont get why they arent involved with the community more and take advice from veterans that want the best for the games? If i have to make a program for a customer, we will add most of what they want if its an achievable and a possible goal. Ofcourse customers dont always have the knowledge what is good or bad for their product, but thats why we developers give them expert advice too!! I dont get why behaviour doesnt listen to their experts… (aka the veterans, not even the developers!)

I came back recently because I wanted to play The Unknown and Xenomorph. I'm a killer main and I gave myself a break after Skull Merchant not because I was particularily dissatisfied (although that release was BS for both killers and survivors), but because I had other stuff I wanted to play. I came back expecting to find and play the same game, and I ran into the realization that this might be the second place DbD has ever been in. Slushie is right, it's extremely rare to have a game where I don't get absolutely bullied, or one where I'm facing baby survivors and a guy desperately trying to carry them. I've wanted to try some fun builds I saw in Otzdarva's website, but the reality is that an average killer like me HAS to use slowdown builds if you don't want to get an absolutely toxic experience. I can't try some non meta killers I want to learn because the learning experience is absolutely painful; yes, I don't expect a 4 Hook every game, but it's honestly not healthy to queue in for up to 5 minutes (wonder why no one is playing Killer again...) just to be bullied.

Spot on with the heartbeat analogy and we are without a doubt in a flat line here.
Removal of fun but high skill ceiling techs, every new killer basically being anti loop and forcing you to just hold W.
But I am also actually going to blame the players themselves.
As skill is being taken away from gameplay more and more, proportionally competitive attitude is cranked up more and more.
It's rare now that you see a killer not run the same array of perks and instantly go to tunnel out the first unhook, at the same time it's rare to see any semblance of skill in survivors because the meta now is basically either crank gens or hold W for distance and predrop every pallet.
Why am I also blaming players? Well WE decide to make this casual game competitive, we decide that getting that 4k is super important instead of actually having fun in the game.
This makes gameplay stale and boring and largely contribute to the "flat line" as well.
In this I would like to give a shoutout to a Billy I faced a few weeks ago and he absolutely had the right attitude.
I know Billy fairly well and know the do's and don'ts with him and what loops he can play and which he can't.
So I ran this Billy for 4 gens before he got me, but instead of disconnecting or even hooking me he instead carried me to shack and insisted on 1v1 shack, so we kept that up until EGC ended the game for us.
In the post-game chat he said he got super frustrated but also had fun in chase and he wanted to continue the chase so he could practice Billy more.
Attitude like this is absolutely what the game needs and the only thing bad about this game was that it was the only one like this in a sea of staleness.
The vast majority of killers would either disconnect when they saw the 3rd or 4th gen pop, go to a corner and give up on the match OR proxy camp after hitting you repeatedly on hook.
I tell you what though that Billy opened my eyes a bit when it comes to the game.
We all need to do better, to be better. To not take this game so seriously.
And he got me back to my DBD killer roots, to exclusively play scratched mirror Meyers and only go for the jumpscares and to play huntress and only go for trick shots etc 😁

MMR made the game boring. Every game is sweaty, using the same perks, same playstyles, etc. It was more fun when you could try random builds and get paired against players of varying skills. Every game was a toss up on how it would play out.

Burning the Wraith wasn't something that took skill. It was so stupidly easy to do and completely shut his power down. Chucky is still extremely oppressive without the flicks cuz he doesn't have a collision mechanic, he can't "bump" into walls. Burning the Nurse was extremely rare, I hate when people bring this up like it happened every game Nurse was involved in.
I find it funny how she says she prefers this game broken, yet she has a list of changes? HUH. Make up your mind. How are you gonna complain about anything after saying, this game was at its most fun broken. She lost me there, that contradicts everything she said.
11:32 I dunno wtf he's saying here, but if you actually think the SBMM and MMR actually does anything, you kind of lose credibility with everything you said here. The reality is, these two things do NOTHING. The game is wildly inconsistent when it comes to matchmaking. I don't go a day on a forum where I don't see a post by a new player saying how punishing it is for them. It's a legit problem STILL.
15:58 no it shouldn't. If they focused on sweatlords in regards to balance, this game would have died years ago. If you do not focus around a new player aspect, you kill any growth this game could have and we know how all you braindead content creators love to look at steam charts.
17:11 this is factually wrong. There are plenty of games that don't have a big Twitch presence that have been successful long passed their primes. This is that DBD entitlement issue we keep seeing, the devs don't owe you shit for playing the game. "I play your game so I deserve all the stuff", no the fuck you don't.
She's playing Valorant now, RNG Counterstrike, wait until she sees how games go there. She brings up one sided games being so prevalent here, wait until you play that game. It has one of the worst matchmaking systems in a competitive shooter designed to keep you playing. You ranked up twice? Welp, time to give you harder games to even that out. That's how Valorant works.
TL;DR it's not that deep and there is plenty of factually inaccurate information in this video. 8 days later, she's back on the game.

Hi, I absolutely love this video and I agree with Slushie, old DBD was fun, crazy, wacky and sure I'm a total potato in DBD but I love it, I don't care about winning or losing, 99% of my games are losses because alot of the times I don't know what I'm doing and second I screw up alot but that's ok, I always learn from my mistakes and that's what made DBD fun. I love your interpretation of the heart beat and flat line for DBD, I understood that way more than anything else, plus During the Blood Moon Event I only got to play 3 matches in 2 days of it during the 2 week event because my game kept on crashing and I just couldn't play it. However the My little Oni game play, I only got to play it for one night with my friends and we had the most fun and also, this was the event that didn't crash for me, I love the little fun events also. Anyway thankyou for the video and have a great day today. 😊😊

DBD was so much more fun under the Rank-based system. Sure, you might have been stomped sometimes, but I found that under Ranks, I had something to strive for (I remember working to get to red rank, and there wasn't any BP bonus!). As a Solo Q survivor, I found most people who achieved red ranks were competent. Also, these days, I barely play because it feels like escape is impossible for Solo. With all the proxy camping, tunneling- no fun perks- DBD made survivor perks DISABLE during the end game. And this eliminated the exhilaration of getting the Decisive Strike escape. I remember I ran Deliverance and DS. Two perks that have only a one time use. IF you even use them. And I actually escape from a facecamping Trapper. They're just sucking the fun out of the game.

pretty much every game i was called trash and tbagged spammed i just don't wanna deal with it so its one the good reasons i quit that and I don't agree with some changes, always same mode and devs focusing on skins way more than anything. i don't agree with the point of cancel culture this and that, as the word is overused and people don't like to look at other core reasons when saying it and I can't help cringe when hearing someone say it tbh. I do thing devs should have done more with the toxic chats when reporting them. i know others who stopped as well because of it id rather play a game like ff 14 where its a lot nicer. i played anonymous mode because when i didn't i had people say a lot of crap on my profile even if i played fair so its not because people just do it to be toxic and I'm not making my whole account private just to counter something from one game... also she wants the wraith flashlight thing to come back she clearly played survivor most the time cuz that's a thing i hard disagree with her on. as for the changes they did some that were fine i think its wild to say all have done bad or only focus on the bad side of things devs have done this whole time and not acknowledge the good hence why I'm not a big fan of her video.

  • @DoglinsShadow
    @DoglinsShadow 3 месяца назад

Dang I actually didn't think I'd say this but I do miss flashlight locker saves. I don't know if I EVER got one as a survivor, maybe I did, or maybe I got saved, but as a killer the counter-play was quite simple: if you see someone pop in a locker, just start walking around, you'll inevitably find someone quickly and then get another free hit or down. It's those kinds of silly things that make the game really fun, and skill expression, and all of that. I don't know, maybe it is for better because I DEFINITELY got annoyed by it once or twice, but it DOES make it for some hilarious videos.
What I also don't like is the constant little tweaks and updates though. I've been playing A TON of DBD recently, but even being one of the more core demographic users it can be quite frustrating having a little thing changed or there or little map change here or there. I'd get used to a map being a certain way (ie. the new Decimated Borgo map) and then boom they change it and then I'd struggle. Or for the locker flashlight save if you didn't read the patch notes to know it was changed, you might waste time attempting it only to realize it's not working suddenly. Trickster had some updates and I didn't know until I got destroyed by him and then I had to spend my next few games against Trickster adjusting, etc.
It is difficult to keep up with things in this game, so chilling back down to a casual player definitely makes sense. Also, this game is SUPER addictive to the point that it can be unhealthy... Haha it can be great sometimes but I've definitely played an absurd amount in the past half year or so.

Honestly I'm taking a rest from dbd rn because of Bloodmoon event, it was so freaking harsh. Everyone in our discord channel were making swf groups with bps or cakes, but i didn't have those, cuz I joined last year in August and even though I have 900h over in dbd, i still had a few bps on my characters. And grinding my bloodweb with 5 prestige levels and only 1 bps in it was so annoying. Like I got over 30 Eryie of Crows map offerings and only one bps, come on.
And during the even every match was so sweaty and all teammates were competitive af. I mean, I have enough stress at my workplace, I come to dbd to kinda switch my thoughts and meet some friends, but that event pressure got me to the point of extreme exhaustion.

@@Insanity-vv9nn Identity V, AKA DBD's younger sibling, has that casual/ranked split. Trust me, matchmaking quality in there is NOT any better. Casual matches are a pendulum of "stomp/get stomped" that either swings every match or takes a dozen matches of getting stomped to get one game where you're the one stomping (and that's before the game has mercy on you and just tossed you into a bot match instead if you had a particularly bad loss streak), and ranked... Well, it's hardly an indicator of how skilled the survivors/killer you're going against will be, because smurfing is very much a thing.

That comment, and follow up rant by Coconut, was really weird to me. BHVR acknowledges content creators CONSTANTLY. I genuinely don't know how much more they could do without throwing a parade for every timmy with 1 viewer on twitch. They do the fog whisperer program, which yes, picks specific positive creators. Because those creators are out there representing the company in how they play and interact. They also have Otzdarva as a fog whisperer. He does more for the community than literally anyone else on the platform. There is no single better channel to learn about the game than Otz, and BHVR had him on one of their recent streams. Is that not acknowledging the community? I have never heard of slushie until this video. I did not know who coconut was until last week when I went against someone pretending to be him and had to look him up. Is their content good? Maybe. But BHVR literally CAN NOT promote every single channel that's ever uploaded something. It's just not feasible. They've done more than enough acknowledgment, in a way anyone with any business acumen can understand. If they've even bothered to contact you and put you in the program, that's lucky enough.
Heck let's actually look at both of their youtuber pages. Their content looks functionally identical. Does BHVR really need to roll out the red carpet for youtuber number X with a "I Made tunneling killer #7 GIVE UP" with 1000 views? That's what Slushie's youtube page looks like. Half of the content on Coconuts page is him doomposting about how the game is dying, or the standard content you see on every other page about generic builds or stream compilations. Take the titles of 90% of his content, and slap it on JRM's page or SpooknJukes, and you'd have no idea those videos didn't belong. Outside of it being general content for the sake of it, how are these videos growing the game in any major way? Are they actively improving the community? Teaching new players? Spreading the love of the game? Yeah, I'm sure "10 things that have been removed that made the game actually fun" is just driving new people to pick up the game. Just existing in a space making "content" does not give you special privileges. You are not unique, and BHVR doesn't owe you anything because you made a video about getting good with nurse that has 700 views. Absolute entitlement from both of them to expect BHVR to do any more than they already have.
As far as the cancel culture comment... stop. No actual major creator in the DBD community has been canceled simply for calling a killer or survivor a bitch. That hasn't happened. You cannot name an example of it. If people were losing their jobs because of something as innocuous as calling a killer or survivor a bitch, people like Ayrun, JRM, and Otzdarva wouldnt exist. They do that shit near daily. Get the fuck off twitter and stop giving that kind of shit any head space. At this point it's your own fault if people crying on twitter about dumb shit is something you're still dealing with. Twitter is far more cancer than DBD ever has been, and you 100% don't need to constantly engage with it to grow your platform.

It used to be a fun game to play with my friends. We would all log on after work and mess around. It was the hangout without actually hanging out.
The games got worse, and slowly my friends stopped playing. I was the last to stop. Found I couldn't stand being a surv main anymore, and only played killer. Even that stopped being fun after a while. I've often wanted to go back, but then I think about how little fun it was. Almost found myself deleting the game the other day.
Met a guy on TCM who was a former dbd player. Had a good chat with him in match. Very similar story, but he'd be out for about a year and a half. Both of us have a couple thousand hours. I'm around 3k surv main and he's higher killer main.

If u gotta let something out then do sport or punch something (that dosnt break from it and that u own) but dont treat other people like shit just cause u were treated like shit or cause u had a bad day. AND PLAYERS IN A VIDEO GAME ARE STILL PEOPLE, something thats sadly often forgotten.

I'm glad most of these things were removed -- especially stuff like the Chucky and Blight tech. Giving a competitive advantage to the top 1% of the top 1% who practiced for hours doing what was essentially a bug is not an interesting game to compete in. The core problem is that there are not enough Things To Do, so I can understand her sentiment -- removing Things To Do is lame. I don't want game-breaking quirks, though. So lets get more NEW Things To Do, intentional quirks, that don't break the game. 3rd-person killer with Chucky was cool, seances in the basement was cool... MORE MORE MORE.

Tbh its just the matchmaking for me. I have 300 hours in the game and sometimes I go against killers where I can tell they are similarly skilled as me. That is mostly when I can lay down a good loop and even if I die in the end, I can appreciate the good game I had overall.
But then most of the time, I go against killers that mindgame the hell out of me, know where I will go and where a pallet is, know when to swing and creep up on me and then when I'm dead I see they have like 3k hours. Yeah, no wonders they know so much more than me.
That's mostly what kills the fun for me. If i feel like I can't do anything right and just always go down immediately, where's the joy in the game? Because there is no game for me.

This is the EXACT same as me! 300hr I enjoy the games that are close very close to winning / losing. But alot of the time on on a gen for like 30 seconds make one mistake looping die and everyone’s dead on 5 gens 😂😂😂😂

What wouldve also wanted to hear is the bad bad balancing of some maps. Some maps are SUPER unfair for certain killers and are basically IMPOSSIBLE to enjoy in high mmr. You can win as Deathslinger on Garden of Joy. Impossible. Also unfair maps for survivors too.
But... big thing... the shitty hitboxes on objects "the invis walls".
    Crazy shi

If you know all about dbd, and u love learning, go comp maybe? no?
Besides burning nurse, it's not skill expression at all. Delusionnal perma burning wraith = skill (no way she said after it was the funniest thing for her 😭) or hag's traps for that matter.
Dodging flashlight's lobbies??? LMAO they can last second swap what do you mean??? Are you supposed to dodge lobby because the match is unfair?? Dont u contradict yourself Slushiettv?
I agree on skybilly, breaking game but still, invisible walls are weird too, I agree.
It feels who is the best killer macro & micro and who is the most coordinated team. Not who has the biggest %minus or %bonus on gen progression.
" I rather play very unbalanced fun dbd". Ok, now imagine you are getting every match old nurse back to back tunneling you every game XDDDDDDDD yes yes so fun haha

yeah I stopped watching after the flashlight part cus I can't take that seriously... like what? most people did know those killer specific counterplays, maybe less known on nurse and artist but still. also wraith is nowhere near strong enough to justify the burning mechanic even being a thing, and after doing it so many times its really not that fun whether the wraith is properly dodging/taking cover or you succeed

took genuine aim to burn a wraith thats not standing still + its literally throwing wasting flashlight trying to do so, but would sucks for a killer to have some sort of counterplay thats not 24/7 being near a loop

I don’t know, toxicity is a part, but it feels unrewarding. Since you lose the majority if micro-interactions as killer, even a 4k can be stressful. I don’t know why for survivors, that’s why i as a killer quit.
And i HIGHLY agree with her about the lightburn, they should have added more of them not remove them

As survivor it's not much different. I've recently stepped back from the game again as a 2k hour surv main, and generally it is just a case of the game just no incentivising anything. The community is toxic and the divisive nature of the game just adds to it with Killers hating or Surv players and vice-versa, the game is just simply boring play and annoying. With no real reward on incentive to play. If I come home from work, I don't want to face a Skull Merchant or a Meta Nurse/Blight every game, and even if I did, there's no reward to getting better at the game. Anyone with a Survivor above like P30 literally never has to spend any more Bloodpoints ever again because even if they die every game they'll have items that last them hundreds if not thousands of games and ofc you won't die in all of them, so why bother spending the bloodpoints? The game is in a weird state where the only "reward" for playing is "for fun" and the game just simply isn't fun for anyone, and the community isn't helping itself either. I've had 4-outs that just feel meaningless and I've had 4-dead that was actually enjoyable, the gameplay loop is just broken, and as in the video, players with hours upon hours of playtime just have no reason to play.

even as survivor it feels like alot of your interactions don’t matter, alot of killers have abilities that put you in situations where you
      - drop pallet, get hit. don’t drop pallet, still get hit
-Vault window get hit, Dont vault get hit
Like cmon, sometimes it feels as though you aren’t going down because you were outplayed but instead just repeatedly put into lose lose situations. That’s no fun. Like sure initially when there was a couple killers who could ignore in game mechanics like Huntress, Nurse, Pyramid Head, but when now it feels EVERY killer getting released just has a ability to ignore pallets or windows it gets frustrating (The Unknown recently released who does just that)
-Finish four generators, ah oh well majority of maps being reworked to be smaller so the last 4 generatots are super close and pain res/pop removes half of your generator progress instantly.
-Oh and dont even get me started when a killer says fuck you specifically and decides to camp you out of the game at 4 generators because apparently “thats what ya gots to do to win 🤷🏽‍♂️”. Like actually what does the Anti-Camp mechanic even do?
Im not saying all of this has to change but these are some unfun things i can get off my chest.
Oh and Im gonna say it before anyone else does “Skill issue 🤓 ☝️” “Just get better 🤓 ☝️ “
