    It’s looking so lovely!! We have a set of dogs that bark a chorus around us. We have a “Yap yap!”, a “Rowf rowf!” and a “Yorp yorp” 🤣🤣🥰

      Thanks Tori! oh yes, the barking, the yapping, the snoring, the sneezing - I wish they would invent a reverse hearing aid so I could mute it all, I seem to get les tolerant as time goes on! :)

    I’m stitching whilst watching and listening to you. I am not on Facebook but you are really tempting me ! I have resisted it for so long now ! Love the fact that you embrace the wonky 😂

    • @artyfartyannie
      @artyfartyannie  Год назад

      hehe wonky is good in my book! If you're not on Facebook already, I'd suggest join the Discord community instead - it's all free, there's lots going on in there and it's easier to connect with people, share pics and stuff than Facebook I think. I don't really "do" Facebook much, I'm keeping the group going because some of my online friends prefer it, but I'm a big fan of Discord now I've got used to - never too late for this old dog to learn new stuff! :) anyway, you can get links to both from my linktree in the description - hope to see you there! :)

    I always wondered what a string quilt was so I watched your videos. It is so beautiful. I love lots of color so I find yours very appealing. I am going to give it a try. What a great way to practice on different stitches. Unless you make a very big mistake, no one will ever know.

    • @artyfartyannie
      @artyfartyannie  Год назад

      Thank you Cindy - yes that's one of the things I love about projects like this, they're so forgiving. Traditionally string quilts are machine stitched and don't have the raw edges, but I don't enjoy machine stitching so much and you can't do it in front of the telly! Please share some pics and tag me so I can see how yours turns out, I love seeing all the different spins on this idea. Maybe think about joining the FB group or our Discord community and share some pics in there - link's in the description box :)

    Oh my gosh this is beautiful. So i have a new start on mine although with another little change, or should I say a BIG change. Instead of using a two and a half inch square I am using a five inch square but will put them together in the diamond design like you did yours and I am sewing them together with the rag quilt fashion, It will end up looking much the same. At my age the larger size will is working much better with my fumbly fingers. I love the inspiration I get from you. I love feeling your excitement and no need for perfection! It is the journey and not the destination. Hugs to you dear Annie,

    • @artyfartyannie
      @artyfartyannie  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much Lizzi, it's so amazing that we can inspire each other through the magic of the internet isn't it? Larger size is a great idea - I only went small so I could use up some teeny pieces but I might do another with larger pieces and I want to try it the traditional way without the raw edges but still hand-stitching. Now what we need is some elastic days which stretch to allow extra time for more crafting :) xo

    Your piece is beautiful, the colors and effect of your stitches pleasing to the eye. Evokes emotions of peace, tranquility. You have inspired me to give this a go. I’ll start with a book cover for my daughter and a slow stitching technique/stitches sampler for years of reference. I think part of tranquility comes from the peace of perfect imperfection this technique lends to. Nothing could go wrong really, such flexibility. A don’t like it, change it potential. A delightful play. I can see why you get so excited to work on your piece. 🫶🏼

      Thank you so much Christine - this was one of my favourite projects so far, although it wasn't quick to do, I enjoyed every stage of it. I'm going to do another one soon, but slightly differently, in such a way that you don't get the raw edges, so you don't need to do so much decorative stitching afterwards - although I probably still will! :)

    Lol you crack me up Annie it’s like going out for coffee but not having to get dressed, oh my belly laugh. Wow just wow your little squares look supper, the colours look fabulous. Feather Y stitch call it feather that’s what your used too, I love when the same thing has different names. Himm think I need to re think what I’m doing, was slowly sewing over the gaps in the squares but using only one stitch, mine looks way to uniformed and I love how yours is looking, aww going from one stitch to the next with the same thread why you rebel yep I’m so going to join in on this rebellion I love how this looks. Ok right I’ve sat down for a quick cuppa and that isn’t what happened this day, right must get in and do some work then hopefully I can do a little stitching aww at lunch would be great. Thanks for expanding me oldish mind today.

    What kind of backing do you use? It’s Beautiful

    • @artyfartyannie

      This was a while back now Patricia, so I can't remember exactly - if you search scrappy string quilt on my channel, all the videos in this series will come up if you'd like to see the whole process. I think I tore up some cotton sheeting or something for the squares, then stitched them all onto one larger piece, did the decorative stitching and finally backed the whole thing with some pretty fabric to finish it off, so it was at least three layers thick in the end :)

    I think the autofocus doesn't work as well things that don't have strong contrast. Your quilt is somewhat diffuse in tone and there is no areas that contrast sharply with those next to it. I'm not sure there's anything you can really do except maybe try putting a strongly contrasting item on your hand or the area of the quilt you're working on and see if the camera will use that object as a 'I know what I need to focus on now'. :-)

    • @artyfartyannie
      @artyfartyannie  Год назад

      Ah thank you, that might be worth a try - I just don't understand all that kind of thing and my camera is the best I can afford right now, but it's not great! I'll definitely try that next time, I think I see what you mean, and of course I deliberately balanced the tones across the quilt because that's the effect I wanted. Shiny things also cause problems, but not much I can do about that either. Since this film, we've tinkered with the colour settings a bit, so the colours look a bit more realistic on screen. Thanks for the tip :)
