In Xtol and 120 format this is incredibly smooth! Would be interested to see results in 35mm. I've only shot 3200 in 35mm but developed in HC 110 and the grain was high. I definitely think this film has its place, but it is a little soft and can be very flat, at least from my experience. If using Xtol though, I wonder if one would get better results with Hp5 pushed 3 stops???
@@TheNegative You’re welcome! I’ve been researching B+W developers and came across your work comparing Xtol and Rodinol. I was really surprised how clean Xtol negs look - especially for higher speed films. I’m looking forward to giving it a try!
@@1331photo give XTOL a try and I’m 99% sure you won’t be disappointed. Also, 120, and 4x5 rodinal looks great always. In 120 you’ll get some graininess with rodinal but it looks fine. For 35mm I’d only use rodinal for films 50, 100, 200 iso. Otherwise use XTOL. Can’t go wrong!
Me too! Yeah it’s lower than what I was aiming for but of course it was underexposed and the fact that it’s able to get that detail at about 1/125 is awesome.
Xtol really tames the grain on delta 3200 unlike other Devs. Even compared with ddx. I use xtol-r with this film in 120 @1000. I really like the results I get. The only negative is the really long Dev times in xtol-r. Shooting at 3200 is ok for certain situations. Places with extreme dynamic range where you are going to get crushed shadows no matter what. Places like gigs.
I would be curious to see it in XTOL @ 1:1 or 1:2 where it has a little more acutance to it. I’ll have to check massive dev if there’s any times for those. I can see shooting it at 3200 for gigs or something. At events like that, you know your shadows won’t be ideal but you’re hoping for the best.
@@TheNegative for xtol-r I've been using the MDC times for 1+1 @20c. I only have one note for a 1600 time of 18 mins in my notebook "bit overdeveloped"
I am new to medium format film photography and I only shot 1 roll of HP5 Plus so far. I will definitely try this filmstock in the near future. I must say your videos are very informative and 'to the point. Thank you!

Yeah I might have to try this and HP5 side by side in 35mm. A few people were asking how it compares
Your videos have me sold on Xtol! Thank you for sharing your work! 😎👍🏻
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
Yeah XTOL is my favorite. I try to let the results speak for themselves but yeah I like it a lot.

@@TheNegative Thanks for the tips! I picked up some Xtol and I’ve got some B+W rolls ready to be developed. I’ll get on it! 😎👍🏻
I was impressed with the detail that remained on the tires. I know you exposed for a zone 3 but still, that’s impressive.

Well I hope you shoot many more rolls! Medium format is fun. Happy shooting and thanks for watching!
I shoot it anywhere from 800 to 3200 in 120. It's hands down my favorite portrait film.
It’s a really awesome film! I’m glad I tried it out!
35mm is far more crunchier
This is off topic but have you ever shot Acros 100?? The crunchiest film I’ve ever seen!
try 3200 in half frame 35 format. really grainy images then!
