There seems to be confusion on what is streetwear and what isn't streetwear. A lot of brands being mentioned that don't necessarily fit into the category of streetwear are being mentioned, while certainly influential, aren't streetwear at all. Brands like CDG Undercover Beams Evisu Kapital, etc. These brands aren't really "streetwear" as they focus far more on the designer process than simple pieces like tees and hoodies. Yes they have street elements but to call them bonafide streetwear labels takes away from what they really are: designer labels.
The only tue streetwear brand that comes to mind that is truly from the element is LRG i mean their pieces are collectible now and when a brand becomes collectible whlie remaining street is rare
Another great video. It would be awesome if you could do a " Brands signature item" video for each of these brands or the most trendy brands in Japan currently.
Manuel Ortiz yes, actually love this idea, but rather instead of just solely Japanese Streetwear labels, to do it with any notable brand, East Asian or otherwise.!
@@figgynewton5718 Deinitely, just take the idea and run with it. I feel like you could apply this to many brands and or also do a video like "Entry items" for particular brands.
Don't want to be the "actually" guy, but Tet mentioned in an interview with HiSnobriety that WTAPS comes from the military term for firing 2 rounds in quick succession at the same target.
has nothing to do with the pronounciation tho (edit) to clarify, yes double tap is the term, but the “pun” comes in when Tet replaced “double” with “W” because, as Reggie mentions, “W” is pronounced like “double”
@@the_jaded_rabbit Oh, I was under the impression that WTAPS was abbreviated in this fashion from the start. But the sole reason I thought that was because I played a COD mod that wrote it that way Lol
realmadHectic by Yoppi, XLarge, Cash CA & A.Four by Kauzki Kuraishi, Mack Daddy, Swagger and even Nonnative and White Mountaineering have played a big role in the Ura-Harajuku scene
Maaan I love CE. And it’s kinda weird-I can’t see myself wearing about half of every collection(except maybe AW17), but the other half...it feels like something’s not right in my life if I don’t get my hands on them
I understand that Mastermind and Undercover are designer brands so they are not in the list. But their collabs with other streetwear (more affordable) are always fire 🔥🔥🔥!
Undercover is a designer brand with streetwear elements due to its influence from Punk but I wouldn't necessarily call it streetwear. There is a big difference between Undercover and Bape
Expected to see Mastermind on this list despite being a no-brainer. True innovator for Japanese streetwear. Happy to see Cav Empt on the list however, very under-appreciated in the US.
Y-3 is made by Adidas and Yohji and is more athleisure than classic street. Yohji mainline is designer fashion not "streetwear", mainly because it existed before streetwear was even a thing, Mastermind is in the lux streetwear market which we'll cover later.
hmmm...never heard of any of these brands, nice heads up man :) i'll keep an eye out, hoping to go to japan sometime in the near future. NIce production on your videos; clean, precise and minimalistic (sorta), love it :)
To my english speaker friends, is the neighborhood's tagline "craft with pride" correct ? Shouldn't it be "crafted with pride". I'm just asking, and curious. Don't bully me. Hehe.
Hello I want to get into streetwear any recommendations to start? And also what qualifies to be a Streetwear brand I noticed you where naming some that weren't.
Will Williams Hi I’m rlly late but it just depends on ur interests. Like there are specific influences to each Streetwear brand. Such as Bape being influenced by hip hop culture and supreme being influenced by skate culture. But some brands that u can easily get into are bape, kith, Stussy, Supreme, CDG Play, Off White and others
Cheezus Christ I did not get the part where he explained it... he said, ‘we are going to forgo cut and sow offerings that ‘could be street wear’ that people consider street wear... but aren’t necessarily. like Visvim’. Visvim was not always a big brand, and was just streetwear, small production. Are the brands discussed not cut and sown? Why is Visvim not considered part of the discussion exactly? You watched it and understood, so what’s your take on the reasoning?
So these are the Japanese equivalents of supreme? I’ve never given much of a dam about “street wear”, I just wear vans/ converse & whatever clothes I buy at the thrift store or that I’ve had for years.
Bape is a Hk brand now, most items not even made in Japan no more , it lost its magic to me , I have the odd pieces but I have grown bored, one my trips to Japan I got a t shirt and its still in its zip bag ........
That's the double meaning. It's meant to be a pun because "W" sounds like "double" in Japanese. It's pretty evident it means "double tap" as it's military inspired but why "W"? Because of the sound of it in the language.

I love hearing you speak Japanese, it sounds so nice I dunno why
I'm glad you mentioned Sophnet. Most people look at me like I'm crazy when I bring them up. Love the content.
Uniform Experiment is great too, one of my favorites
You drop a lot of designer names...like super fast. Maybe just add a graphic on screen so we can look into those names if we wanted to?
TANTA Clothing is blowning up. Pop ups at all the biggest Department stores and so many famous people rocking it.
I've been watching reggie's vids since 2017 but I've only been curious about that outro track/song lately. Does anybody know that outro track?
I really love that intro!
this channel 180 my style to another lvl+ 🔥 thanks Reggie!
Japan and Paris have the best drip.
FR2 is hugely under rated in the west, I wouldn’t be surprised if it blew up in the near future.
I understand that Mastermind and Undercover are designer brands so they are not in the list. But their collabs with other streetwear (more affordable) are always fire 🔥🔥🔥!
uc is definietly streetwear imo.
Ali Km nah son that shows you’re not a true fan of Undercover and even The Casual. Go watch WTH is Undercover, Reggie explained it all there.
Undercover is a designer brand with streetwear elements due to its influence from Punk but I wouldn't necessarily call it streetwear. There is a big difference between Undercover and Bape
THE CASUAL thanks for the explanation Reggie!
surprised wacko maria, nonnative, & mastermind japan weren't in the list but it makes sense seeing as these are more of the pioneers
Please can you explain what acronym WTVUA means?
Fragment design has my mind blown 🤯
Six number nine. Nice😏

Fragment was relevant when it started after Hiroshi's first label GoodEnough.
I love this channel. Keeps it 100
Thank you soo much this is what i needed....
Expected to see Mastermind on this list despite being a no-brainer. True innovator for Japanese streetwear. Happy to see Cav Empt on the list however, very under-appreciated in the US.

Waiting for Wacko Maria on the next list
He's mentioned it in previous videos
Sits there being jelous in Giant. It's enough to make me want to start a Giant sized street wear company, DXL isnt enough.
Thanks Reggie

Where is Y3, Youji Yamamoto, Mastermind. They are the iconic luxury streetwear brands that so famous in fashion industry.
Y-3 is made by Adidas and Yohji and is more athleisure than classic street. Yohji mainline is designer fashion not "streetwear", mainly because it existed before streetwear was even a thing, Mastermind is in the lux streetwear market which we'll cover later.
Have a good time
Lol thanks for acknowledging me acknowledging the details. lol

Yo cav empt looks dope ~
When you say “cut and sew” here, do you just mean like t-shirt based brands or something else?
Matthias81 he means fully sewn garments not just printing graphics on blanks
so Wacko Maria is still new?
Dope label but not as influential as the ones on this list
drop a video on nonnative
I live for clothes nobody else has that’s 🔥 fire
I like human made a lot

Chopper - Osaka Dagger
Why isn’t Visvim streetwear? Too expensive?
Chris P if you watched the vid you’d know he explained it
Cheezus Christ I did not get the part where he explained it... he said, ‘we are going to forgo cut and sow offerings that ‘could be street wear’ that people consider street wear... but aren’t necessarily. like Visvim’. Visvim was not always a big brand, and was just streetwear, small production.

what about CDG, Y-3, Mastermind??
Mastermind is a high brand, Y-3 isn't streetwear, CDG is designer
Now I'll collect those bounty hunter toys
No love for Remi Relief?
TFW Regi says Beams isn't influential enough to be on the list
Beams isn't necessarily streetwear
Mastermind should deserve a spot on this video aswell! :)
Verdys Girls Don’t Cry?
Too new

Wtaps is called “double taps” because of the military term call double taps that meant hitting the same spot with a second bullet.
That's the double meaning. It's meant to be a pun because "W" sounds like "double" in Japanese. It's pretty evident it means "double tap" as it's military inspired but why "W"? Because of the sound of it in the language.
So how about HUMAN MADE ?
BAPE= Hong Kong
I thought visvim would be on the list :(
He said at the beginning of wouldnt be on the list
Wow, its not like w is double-u
Shout out bounty hunter
I love streetwear and swear by it but I don't get any of this shit.
