It would've been cool if there was a couple missions in Limpany before the town was burnt out. Would've been cool to see Limpany as the "Tumbleweed of the East" before it became scorched earth.

It would have been neat for Limpany to be somewhat active during Arthur's story then burnt in the epilog with no explanation.

@@Marquis-Sade yeah same, I want an actual story explanation. Maybe have a survivor of the town travel back there that you can find, reminiscing about his old charred home, and when you speak to him you can ask what happened and he explains the whole story.

My theory is that it was a little town built by gold prospectors due to its close vicinity to the river. Maybe their endeavors were fruitful for a little bit, hence the single full gold bar. It was being built when Cornwall’s company was just moving into New Hanover. Cornwall probably used the town to support his factory. After a while they pretty much became useless when the railroad ran through Valentine. A gang of outlaws probably heard about their gold, but the prospectors weren’t finding much gold anymore and most of it went to Cornwall’s company. When the outlaws found out they burned down the town out of spite. I don’t have anything to really support other than I think you can still find npcs panning for gold along that river.

There's also the possibility that Cornwall purposely burned it down as part of an insurance scam after the gold dried up and recuperate some losses on a badly timed construction investment.
There's a camp near by that looks like it started there.
Interesting enough, in the rdr2 reveal trailer, Arthur is shown in the town with some fire still raging. So something was planned but ended up being scrapped

Yeah sucks the developers had to cut out a lot of content.
In the other brush fire you can find a burnt down campsite with a burnt out campfire. It’s right on the edge of the brush fire. Perhaps it’s possible that wind blew the flame into the trees and caused the fire, the embers perhaps blown by the wind landed around limpany and started another fire
These werent random fires. They are from themeteorites. You can follow the burnt trail from up on the edge of colter

Restarted the game yesterday, only a few hours in and I totally forgot about that gold bar. Thank you for making chapter 2 a breeze.

You know, I am replaying at the moment and I'm on the epilogue. Now I am pretty sure that the last time I replayed the game I started the epilogue, I "inherited" (don't want to spoil it for anyone) the gold bars in my satchel, as well as other valuables.
This time though, when I started the epilogue, I had all the valuables etc in my satchel from the main game, but all my gold bars had gone!
So I went back to the gold bar locations (the train wreck was one) and they're back in those locations....Except for the statue puzzle and I'm guessing the other treasure map gold bars although I'm not 100% about the other treasure map gold bars but I was certain that I would get everything except for food & money in my satchel in the epilogue. Unless Rockstar changed it 🤷

In my 3rd playthrough. The only gold bar I've found in the epologue is in Lipany which respawns every 7 days. Most of the other loot respawns in the epologue though too.
Taking the location and surrounding nature into account, Limpany must've been a beautiful city. I had this impression every single time I've been there.
Everyone heard about the goldbar glitch that dosen’t work anymore. But it still respawns a few time during the game so make sure to revisit this place now and then
I find it respawns about every 7 days in game time.
I remember finding this out on my own in my first playthrough, and I just kept revisiting this town whenever I was near for a free gold bar

@@ded2thaworld963 I'd immediately suspect that it was a wildfire that destroyed the town considering that RDR is set in the Midwest and that's relatively dry.
Imo I think it's just as simple as the town being downwind from the scorched forest area during that fire embers blew over and caused the town to catch fire and since it was such a small town they were I'll equipped to handle it and it just burnt down. The only gripe I have is none of the NPCS in game ever call attention to these ghost town type areas such as Limpany or Pleasance. Makes it feel like they didn't really intend for these areas to have much interaction other than make a part of the map look fuller

Why should every ghost town have a long history behind it? It is nice to have the map be filled with stuff, isnt it? Hand crafted stuff, I might add.
I may be wrong, but I'm sure there was footage in the games trailer where Arthur was watching a blaze? pretty sure I read it was Limpany and it was Cornwall that had it burnt down as a sign of strength. Never noticed about the lack of furnishings in the buildings though, good spot :)

Here’s something interesting: search youtube for Rdr2 trailer #3. Towards the end you can hear Dutch’s voice lines about fire, and it shows Arthur on his horse IN LIMPANY while the town still has some flames towards the edges. This leads me to believe that the criminals in the cell and treasure map were only there to replace more cut content of the game (I wish they would have included all of the cut content, but you can’t have everything)

I'm wondering about Moonstone Pond. I know it just looks like a tree that fell on a house, but all the tree stumps around it are strange to me. They all have axe cut marks higher than Arthur's head. Nothing in the game was put there on accident.
Man, I can't find *anything* on it now, but I remember reading during other RDR2 research before that trees cut off like that are from when there was very very deep snow and they cut down trees for firewood. Makes good sense, since it's up in Ambarino and likely to get lots of snow, and then when it melts the trees are revealed, having been cut off way above ground.

It looked like Limpany but not burnt down.
There is a really interesting mod that tries it's best to restore Limpany, it's not perfect such as barely any NPC's and some things missing but the placement on buildings makes a lot of sense overall.

For the record, in America, we do use the term “ground floor”, but only in certain circumstances. If it is a building that has only 2 floors/stories, then we say “first floor” to refer to the floor that is level with the ground. But, if you are in a hotel/apartment/office building with 3+ floors/stories then we call the floor that is level to the ground the “ground floor”, and anything either mostly or entirely below ground is called a “basement” or “cellar” rather than “ground floor” no matter what.
Thanks for doing the re-visit series, man. I was bummed out when I had to stop playing online when it became apparent it was just going to be a barren wasteland with practically nothing worth while left to do anymore but I really missed the universe as a whole and these have been really fun

I never played RDR1 cause I quit gaming in 2013, but this gsme has so many secrets and extra things you can re visit.. your the man brotha, doing all this research for us #MADRESPECT
A bit late to the party, but I have an alternative take... The town of Limpany was in the process of being built, and most of the structures are mostly completed. Tar is a substance that is both sticky AND waterproof, making it a viable glue for roofing. Additional benefits are that it acts as an insulator, and isn't as heavy as mortar. Barring acts of God, you don't typically need to worry about your roof catching fire, so the flammability is an afterthought. I think that the contents of the barrels were ALL tar.
My hypothesis is that one of the construction workers who was working on the rooves had quite a bit of tar on them, as tar is a messy substance, similar to mortar for brick laying. The town didn't look like an uppity sort of place, so instead of washing his hands, the worker went straight to the saloon after his shift and went to relax. He lights his cigarette and when he goes to put out the match using that little flicking thing we all do, the fire lights the fumes from the tar, sets the man on fire, and sets the saloon on fire. The embers from the burning saloon would set everything else around it on fire.
As for the map in the jail cell, since it's pre-order-only (or PC) content instead of vanilla, I say the devs just wanted somewhere to slap a map and threw a dart.
I can't believe no-one else has commented to say how good this theory is. 200 IQ thinking and all makes sense. And the workers body was probably buried, hence why there's no corpse. As Fizhy said, if Cornwall had the place burnt down, why leave his own barrels there?

My Theory; They we're testing the 'violatile fire bottles' in the forest, and it caught on fire. The hot ashes from the fire perhaps drifted to the town, landing on the barrels or a spillage from a old forgotten barrel, causing it to go up in flames. Perhaps robbers came in later to search the town for any abandoned goods?

My theory: limpany was a fast growing town people were moving here, it effects valentine N Cornwall business, due to the limpany far from train station that effects on Cornwall's products shipping price.

I think this had to do with Cornwall’s men as those kerosene barrels look like they were deliberately broken open and spilled on the ground

A lot of things on RDR2 were cut because of time. Arthur was so-pose too b able to enter new Austin and b able to deliver the letter too Bonnie b 4 she left for a while eventually returning for the events of the first red dead redemption.
5:59 My head canon is that some dumbass flicked his cigarette out of the second story window of the saloon and burnt the town to a crisp. An avoidable accident indeed.
I have another theory. Cornwall maybe had the barrels there for storage?
Idk if this happened to anyone else but I got ambushed by about 4 stranger npc’s a little over a minute after leaving the town and one of them mentioned killing me for gold and looting it from my corpse
There is also a place on the porch outside the building where you find the gold bar where it gives the sit option
What I saw in that jail when I first went in..scared the crap out of me

Another site set on fire is the lone oil rig north of Horseshoe Overlook. There's loot and corspe with a letter from Cornwall on him.
Also blue barrels. There's burned out shacks and campsites in different places on the map, with blue barrels nearby.
I know this video is more than a year old but for what it is worth: If the town is indeed being constructed, the presence of tar could be to have coated the rooves.

I don't believe the treasure map theory about Limpany, mainly because the treasure map was a pre order bonus. People like myself and I'm guessing at least 75% that didn't pre order the game, wouldn't know anything about treasure - and to be honest this is the first thing I've ever heard of the treasure map😆
So I can't see the developers putting a town in the game when most people would never be able to benefit from it, apart from the gold bar in the lock box of course.
I will stick to the theory that Leviticus Cornwall was behind the attack on Limpany because he wanted the inhabitants gone so that he could prospect the land....the same way he did it to the Indians at Wapiti.
After all, I think the clues that are there, such as the barrels with Cornwall Kerosene & Tar on them are really the only clues in Limpany, and millions of us would never have seen the treasure map 👀🙄

Just want to point out that pretty much after any major mission in the game, the gold bar will respawn. I'm currently in Chapter 2 and have gone back and re-collected the gold bar about 10 times already. You can do this without any trickery of sorts, ie no save and reload the game ect. Just always check the box after every mission.

I found a corpse at limpany and he had scratches on his leg and shoulder and he was decomposed but he only had a opened health tonic on his inventory
Weird I saw no bodies. The camp away from the town to me definitely played a role.
My theory is that I think the 1 or 2 brush fire(s) that happened near could have tied together so could have been a brush fire at limpany and the brush fire got too close to the tar or whatever and started a even worse blaze
Smaller town locations like Limpany and Pleasance would be welcome additions to the map in RDR3.

honesly i don’t think that the lack of furniture means anything. evelyn miller’s cabin, when you burn it down, ends up with no furniture despite it having cabinets, a table and even a corpse inside. the same goes for the braithwaite manor though there is a corpse in there, at least prior to the epilogue
i believe in one of the rdr2 trailers we could se arthur watching limpany burn so its possible its cut content

Maybe it's where the 3rd astroid was supposed to be but rockstar thought it was to obvius / silly but liked the concept of a burnt down town close to horse shoe so they last second changed it and added a treasure map and gold bar

So I spent 80 hours playing this game the first time and didn’t even know likpany existed 60 hours through my second play through until I saw your video about it. That said, maybe it’s time for some new content? Like a different game?

Did you every get a random decomposed dead guy spawn at the outhouse in the town because after watching this I wanted to have a quick sus about that treasure map and found a dead guy that was properly decomped and had rats all over him. I’ve got a clip for reference if ya have tho would be interested to know what that’s about if you’ve got any ideas or just happen to know why that poor lad died by the outhouse
YEah, that's something that will randomly respawn. I've started a replay and I decided to stay in Chapter 2 for as long as possible, so I've been there for a month or two maybe? And I've seen the corpse pop multiple times. I assumed they were victims of the shenanigans that you might encounter on the road there.
Online the gold bar is never there for me, not once
"It could have easily been avoided" doesn't necessarily means it was an accident. It could have been arson but avoided if the people or town leader had handled the culprit differently. Be it giving them the map, gold, or otherwise.
