  • How to fix large gaps along skirting (base) boards
This video demonstrates two methods for fixing large gaps along skirting boards. The first method involves using filler and paper to bulk out the gap before applying the filler. The second method involves screwing the skirting board to the wall to tighten it against the wall.

Refreshing that you don’t unnecessarily over complicate the fixes and tips. Thank you.

Expanding foam is great for back filling gaps like this behind skirting. More of an issue though on older houses as plasterers often didn't finish walls right down to the floor level.

Will kitchen towel be too flammable if there is a fire?

I had this problem on a recent project and used the same solution - ie. Kitchen roll strips but instead of polyfilla I used a good trade decorating caulk - as that has some flexibility that may be better to use to avoid later cracking ?

I’d be concerned as to why there is a gap, want to take the skirting off to check for damp, rot and such like.

Could you not just use caulking?
