Seeing a man who has held the WR in this game(not blindfolded) being amazed at what this guy is doing blindfolded, just shows you how hard Blindfolded speedrunning really is.
I thought he did those head movements to count reliably. It's easy to lose track of how fast you're counting but it's very easy to keep a rhythm when you bop your head to it like "1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5"
I can't imagine the stress of getting a world record where you have a hard time even seeing when you messed up. These dudes who run the blindfold category are next level as fuuuck
The only thing I have to add, besides the fact that the run was insanely amazing - I am not sure if this does in fact play a role in all of this, but it is known that the hearing sense is much more precise compared to the visual, so I COULD IMAGINE that the last throw was so insanely good specifically because of him training to listening to when to throw. Which, if you think about, is absolutely bonkers, he just turned Mario into a rythm game. Nice.
Omfg that was amazing to watch. I couldn't have done it without the guy explaining the strategy in the background though, I needed that. Otherwise I'm just watching someone play Mario Eventhougj I know there's so much more to it than I realize, it's not something my brain can appreciate. However with the explanations I can see how much effort but also how clever these ideas were, ontop of the dedication it must take to learn this so well, with no reward in it other than your own goal achieved. It's pure. I loved this run. That guy is unreal.
I think the head bobbing is because he isn't necessarily using the music for audio *cues* but more as for a rhythm - as if he were playing an instrument. For moments where timing is critical you can't react to an audio cue because there will always be a delay. You have to anticipate it by knowing what beat of the song it comes at and head bobbing is a great way of keeping time with the music.
I watched this when it first happened, but I’ll watch again to see the world record holder in the most well-respected category in the game react to it! This run is insaaaaannnneeeeeee

Mario 64 is the only Nintendo game that I’ve ever seen get so many changes, recreations, fixes, restorations, functions added, tweaks, custom music added…. So many RUclipsrs accumulated way over 100 rom hacks big and small, there is so many videos on this game both for the game itself and the rom hacks, we have it given all these fixits where we’ve given it 3D glasses functionalities, we’ve given it a emulator and pc port, we found the disk version of it for the N64DD, we recovered it’s test maps that were from the Gigaleak’s fixed source codes, we found Luigi and beta items, enemies that were erased from the games memory, the debug menu would normally direct you with the glitch area names to certain places in the game but we fixed the font, we can edit the messages that pop up, sign messages, we recreated the enemies or we recolored them, gave them different functionalities, we have so many speed runs, we have the beta of super Mario 64 actually found with its sprites on the Mario wiki, we have made so many changes, so many tweaks, covers, revisions for Mario 64 and something like Mario kart 64 only ever got to be found out to have have a beta but very small bits of it have been documented, we have gameshark codes known that it could work with, but that’s about it for that game and that’s a;so the same for 90+ percent of Nintendo’s games for all the other consoles they made. Miamoto wants Mario 64 to be remembered as much as it can ever be, the iQue, it’s 4 language release roms, it’s own fixed blj rom, Nintendo switch… Mario 64 is quite the invention of Nintendo’s, that will be remembered even in the 22nd century and further on because look at this, look at all of this continuous activity being shown and provided for this 20 year old game.

There should be some kind of vibration and bumping sounds on the control whenever Mario walks in certain terrains. It's easy to know when he's in water for example.
