In the attack on Dubrovnik in 1991 and 1992, out of 824 buildings in the historic core (old town), 594 were damaged, with a total area of 192,338 square meters, of which 382 were residential, 19 religious and 10 public, while the rest of the buildings had their roofs damaged. gelato is just italian word for ice cream in general lol. but in coastal Croatia they use it too since it's italian influenced... technically gelato is suppose to have less fat and slightly different consistency than ice cream, but those are just technicalities not rally how it's made any more. it's basically mostly all the same and it's fancy word for ice cream. no one in Croatia calls it that btw, we have croatian word for it "sladoled" which literally translates to "sweet ice". "Gelato" is more a term for tourists and foreigners :)

Gelato is italian type of ice-cream. It is not the same! Gelato is usually warmer, less cream and more flavor. Gelato places also have the best sorbets as well! Softer, smoother and full of (usually, in good places) real fruit etc.

Gelato is simply the Italian translation for ice cream. There‘s no difference there. 😂🤣 When it‘s used in other countries they are trying to imply some fanciness to it, but it‘s still just ice cream in all its variations. Burrata is a Mozzarella type of cheese filled with stracciatella di bufala (fresh cheese made from buffalo milk) and cream. In good Pizza places, it is very commonly used to top your Pizza, but of course it is put there only after baking so it still has its texture. What the fork are you doing to your poor fries? No, there‘s one reason ketchup was invented and that is to come as a match made in heaven together with fries!
In Dubrovnik you can see well the mixture of Serbian and Italian arhitecture,it was built completely by Serbian merchants in 14 th century, later on due to the war between us and Croatia in the 90's we lost it. First steam ship of Dubrovnik for example was called Belgrade, given name of its brotherly city of Beograd capital of Serbia. Best regards, great channel,it's nice to see you guys enjoying Adriatic cost,it's one of the most beautiful coasts.
You can see the serbian architecture that you can t see in any other serbian city, but in almost all other croatian, italian and west Europe city 🤣🤣🤣 If you can find some historic architecture in Serbia it is almost turkish asiatic one 😉.
@@emilianozapata2530Son, do you know that Serbs were not allowed to sleep inside the city walls during the Dubrovnik Republic?! You really have something wrong with your brain... it's like saying that Mongols built New York 🤦😂
I'm glad you liked it in Croatia, just try to get more cultural context before posting something. Term 'Balkans' is considered derogatory in the entire region, especially in Central / Southeast Europe where Croatia is located, as it was often used pejoratively by Western countries to depict the region as uncivilized and politically chaotic. So it's like putting a title: "I found my favorite US city stolen from Native Americans (NEW YORK)"... While it may be factually accurate, it is still not appropriate wording. Especially when you can say European or Mediterranean or anything similar that doesn't carry the same connotation.
Derogatory? Well, it certainly brings some associations to one's head, but it is not derogatory. When you hear Mexico, you can think of drug cartels, or you can think of mariachi.

You didnt search much 😅 that is the most popular, overrated town in whole Croatia, and I speak as Dalmatian than lives close to it… Try Zadar, Rovinj, Omis, Korcula, Rab… so many more beautifull and more decent places to enjoy
geographically it is. thing is that "balkan" for balkan people is more of political term or something that describes behavior of the people as primitive rather than geographical area.
@@spatrk6634 As a geographical concept, the Balkans do not exist as a peninsula because the area commonly referred to as the Balkan Peninsula does not meet the geographical criteria for a peninsula. The term “Balkan” as a geographical name is primarily found in Bulgaria, where a mountain carries that name. Therefore, the Balkan is essentially a mountain in Bulgaria. The political concept of the Balkans, coined by the German Johann August Zeune in 1808, refers to countries that were once under Turkish rule. Hence, Slovenia and Croatia are often (and justifiably) excluded from this description because, religiously and historically, they do not belong there, having been part of the Habsburg Monarchy. Consequently, the Standing Committee on Geographical Names has classified Slovenia and Croatia as part of Central Europe.
Cevapi and burek as well as otter kind of pita are best in Sarajevo. Dubrovnik has a great sea food and pasta. Grill is the best in Serbia. Probably south Serbia. Why Croatia wanted to separate? They were always highly nationalistic since WW II.. That you can’t learn there.
That is not true. Croatian are not highly nationalistic. Your statement say more about you then about people of Croatia. Kingdom of Jugoslavia and Jugoslavia were states made by contract, so historically we were separate states before agreement . People were not happy with Jugoslavia In 1990, Slovenia and Croatia decided to made their own national states again.and separate from Jugoslavia. Serbs came with tenks, soldiers and start to kill our citizens. From 1990-1995 I was almost five times killed., my house was completely destroyed...so when I see statement like this it makes me very angry.
@@majaharbig5326 Sorry, but not only you’ve suffered. Thousands have suffered. Facts are facts. Look up Croatia between 1929-1945, then talk. Not all Croatians are like that of course, but nationalistic flare was always present. Croatia and Slovenia did not have a good reason to leave. They were living the best lives of all republics in ex YU. That is also a fact. Them leaving does not justify war of course, especially Balkan slaughterhouse wars. It is much more complicated than this but there is no space or time for any meaningful discussion here. 🍉☮✌
@@marisaj2346 The reason of leaving search in you rising nationalism of 90 and Milošević s regime. Slovenia and Croatia were initialy for confederation.
@@erikb2358 Rising nationalism is what I am referring too. The confederal model was initially accepted by all the republics. Slovenia was 50/50 to stay. Croatia was just pretending. They brought all their nationalist, some ex fascist people back to the country, initiated old ustasa insignias, start to change the language and normalised all of it. Tudjman has famously said in the speech before anything started, that he was happy his mother is not Jewish nor Serbian. Milosevis was an autocratic cretin and they could have dealt with him if there was a will to keep YU together. Also Germany and others were too quick to recognise the separatist republics. The pressure should have been put on negotiations and agreements, what ever outcome there would have been - the continuous remodelled union or a separation. Well, all these wars were for nothing. All the deaths and destruction for nothing. They will be in the same union without borders again. This time the EU. This was also one of the solutions back then in 1990’. A quick path into EU.
the point is that the Balkans is a political term, so when talking about Croatia it is not good to use expressions like Balkan or to call Croats Balkans because the vast majority of Croats do not consider themselves Balkans and Croats have an aversion to these narratives🙂

In the wartime destruction of the historic center of Dubrovnik, 72 percent of the city's buildings were damaged, nine of which were completely burned, while the roofs of four others were partially burned.

DUBROVBIK IS NOT BALKAN!
geographically it is.
thing is that "balkan" for balkan people is more of political term or something that describes behavior of the people as primitive rather than geographical area.
