We love Gettysburg! Our parents live there. My father-n-law is awesome at these tours. We did a video driving through the battlefield with him doing the narration. It was a lot of fun. Check it out when yall get a chance. Happy Camping!!
I live in Gettysburg. It is a beautiful town. A lot of the battle took place right in the town itself with the citizens hiding in their basements. Several buildings still have shells in them and Mr. G's Ice Cream, the Farnsworth House and the Jennie Wade House have bullet holes in them. When I was a child we camped at Granite Hill and I used to climb the "castle" at Little Round Top. A few years back, while re-doing the railroad bridge, they found the remains of one of the soldiers from the battle. He was later interred in the National Cemetery.
I was born north of Pittsburgh and I visited Gettysburg when I was a kid many years ago but would like to see it again. I really enjoy your videos and your enthusiasm for history. Thank you.
My great great grandpa Thompson fought for the north and was disabled in battle and ended up - walking home to missouri after the war - in Springfield Illinois and got to guard the train with Lincoln’s body! Fun Family fact!
It was so cool watching this episode. We live 45 mins east of Gettysburg. The Dobin House is our favorite place to eat. I'm glad you had a good time there.
The next time you go, you should take the motorcycle guided tour. Highly recommend. Also, there is the annual Gettysburg Remembrance Day event that is held around the 15th of November with a parade, almost the entire town in period costume, Lincoln’s Gettysburg address, and a ball. One of the most moving movements (for me) was the playing of taps at sunset on Little Round Top. Recommend watching the movie “Gettysburg” So much history in the area. Also don’t forget Harpers a ferry and Antietam (and Monocacy and Bull Run). Note that the cannon barrage preceding Pickets charge Was the loudest man made sound on the North American continent and could be heard as far away as Frederick Maryland
I live in the Poconos in Pennsylvania...not far from Gettysburg and always wanted to go, but too afraid to bring a spirit back home with me🤪. After watching this, I will definitely put it on my things to do very soon. Thank you
We were on that same tour just a week ago! Worth every penny - the professional tour guide brought history alive, and sitting up top is the only way to see the sites! We spent four days at Round Top RV so we were able to really explore the monuments, museum, films, and cyclorama. History must be remembered - or we will repeat it...
Love You Guys and your videos. My wife Sherry and I visited Gettysburg a number of years ago and like you, we took the Battle Field Bus Tour.. It was amazing and everyone should do it to fully understand the scope of these battles at Gettysburg. The comment regarding reading about the history is great for information but standing there and looking out over the battle fields brings a whole new appreciation and emotion to what really happened there. We highly recommend taking the guided and bus tours to get a better appreciation of what this place is really about and the commitment and losses of both the North and South.
This side of the country has so much history to explore. It is mind blowing how you can see how the battles took place and you feel like you are part of history while in Gettysburg! Thanks for sharing!!
Looks absolutely amazing!!! If you love history… when you come back to Georgia… go to Andersonville. When you stand on that field…. You can almost feel the soldiers. Can’t wait to go to Gettysburg!
Loved visiting Gettysburg with my family, I educated myself as much as possible before going (about a years worth). Unfortunately some of our group can’t walk very far, sooo, we didn’t visit the town very much…
so glad I found this video you two were awesome Gettysburg is my all time favorite place to go iv been there six times and still have not seen it all. keep up the good work
Love Gettysburg we stay at granite hill! We in fact or going there Columbus day weekend! Very historical there. My brother took us on a tour of several battle areas. He did re-enactments for civil war. Was a gray coat- confederate. We also took double decker bus tour like you. Guide was very good. We also go to a national apple harvest festival on that weekend. You could spend a long time touring. The visitor center is a greatvplace to visit.
Gettysburg is like nothing else you will experience. So much history. Hope you had the chance to check out the cyclorama and museum, it gives you lots of info.
Loved Gettysburg, we were there the same time you were. In fact, we were probably down the street when you were eating. I agreed with you when you said you could spend more time there. So much history to take in at one time. Gettysburg we will be back.
Many many years ago my hubby insisted we tour Gettysburg. Back then we got a cassette tape to pop in our car stereo and drive ourselves around the battleground. It was very confusing, We couldn't even figure out if we were on the right road, in the right area. This looked a lot more interesting than I remember, I may even agree to try it again next time we're in the area. LOL
Love the battlefield history. We used to live in Maryland and been to all of them. We lived in an area that was haunted by civil war soldiers. It was weird. There is so much history in this nation that everyone should experience. We learn from our history, good and bad, this is us, lets make it better, not ignore it and hide from it.
It's been 24 years since we were there. You video makes me want to go back. This time with the camper and spend a week. So we could do some ghost tours. Love you guys. Hope to meet one day. God bless
We really enjoyed watching this video . We have never had the opportunity to visit the Gettysburg area and didn’t realize how expansive Gettysburg is. Thanks for including a bit of history about The Underground Railroad….so many others leave out parts of our history, thanks again for telling this story.
I was there several years ago and remember it as being a sobering experience. The magnitude of the place and the lives forfeited there certainly gives on pause and a rekindled hope that this nation so conceived and so dedicated will not perish from this earth.
Gosh, another place to add to my list of must sees. Thank you for all the info and interesting things you did. I could easily spend several days there.
Great video, however would have loved to see more of the scenery. 😉 Thanks for showing the”underground” rooms. So much history! Nice reminder that we should remember and learn from our past, not erase it. 👍🏼 thanks for all you do.
Love Gettysburg! It was so nice watching it. So much history. We miss Pa. it is our home state and watching your video made us want to visit there again when we go up to visit family. Thank you for another great video. ❤️
Many of the monuments on the battlefield were erected by the men in the regiments that fought there. It's a sobering, amazing place. If you are a reader, I recommend any of Bruce Catton's books on the Civil War.
@@SwitchItUpLife a big thank you! I mean how have I been functioning without conditional formatting all my life?! I couldn’t master trip wizard, but The Google Sheet has been a game changer!
I believe by the Willis House, the place with the ice cream sign, there’s still a cannon ball in the exterior wall. RVerTv showed it in his Gettysburg video. And true such relevant words still today!
You did a good job of capturing Gettysburg and the history there. Did you get to see the medical museum by any chance? I remember being ‘wowed’ by it. Can’t wait to follow you to your next adventure. I’ll guess...Lancaster County PA? I’m not sure I mentioned I was born and raised partially in KS, moved to Lanc. Co. and now live in OC, NJ. So you are where I’ve been and you are from where I’m from!🙌💞
Gettysburg is great, so much history and so many ghosts. You need multiple days to get it all in. Dobbin House Restaurant is fantastic. Fun fact - a very distant cousin lived in a house where the first shot of the Battle of Gettysburg happened.
We went there in July and did a video on Gettysburg for our youtube channel. GREAT place to visit - I just found it SO moving. Gettysburg is a great experience.
Nice video of Gettysburg. We live a half hour away from Gettysburg. We usually do a self tour of the battlefield about once a year. Last time was this past July. Love all you videos and the craziness. Another interesting battlefield is Antietam below Hagerstown MD. Thanks
Todd, the place is sacred ground. Cant say it enough. Its that important to us. More Americans died there than any other battle on our history. Shiela gets it. Make a return trip someday.
Now this is right up my alley. I'm a history nerd. We went through the Vicksburg National Battle park in Mississippi. Spent 3 hours there and I could have spent 10 or more. My wife was ready to go after the first hour. She doesn't have that history bug like I do.
You guys are great! Went on the tour in September. Very emotional when you learn the facts of our history and how the misguided are trying to erase it. You guys need to do the museum tour and the 360 theater. Maybe next time your there, the theater bought tears to my eyes. Keep up the honest videos. Take care and be safe. Sincerely VITO
