Just as others have mentioned, it does need a dab of oil before you use it ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e - put a few drops in through the convenient screw cap and you are good to go! I have fished several weeks with a couple of these, and I will be getting more in the future. I put these against my Abu Garcia Pro Max reel, and they actually perform a bit better than the Abu with some of my lighter cranks, and definitely just as good with the rest of my lures. My Abu is a bit more low profile and fits my hand better, but these are definitely not bad at all. You can almost get 3 of these for the price of my Pro Max. My only complaint is the thumb bar sits pretty high compared to my traditional profile Abu. Bring that thumb bar down a little and I’m sold on these all day long.
My daughter asked if the bass you were catching were "Rock Bass", thats the joke from a 10 year old. Good job sir
Dad jokes on point
Got this post to 200
Good job to you sir! She’ll do well in life
That's pretty good. She's got a better sense of humor than 97% of RUclips commenters.
Donda
Glad you got my soapstone! I’d love to see you make a micro bait with the more blue soapstone I sent too. Good work as always!
Thank you for giving us content
thank for helping him make content
Legend!
Nice Work, Dad. Congrats for also Building a Beautiful Family. You’ll figure out Fatherhood Easier than You Have Making Baits. Enjoy. Thanks for Sharing Your Work with Us.
Man, some archaeologist is gonna find that lure thousands of years from now, and when they look into the internet archives for it's origin, they will find this video, and your face will be there right alongside your lure.
Congratulations my friend, you're immortal.
You say that like you're sure he isn't already immortal. There's no way to be sure of such a thing.

@@GoneFishing-8373 I wouldn't talk lol
Fun fact
As a metamorphic rock, it is very resistant to heat. In fact, soapstone is often used for casting metals, such as lead, pewter and silver. It has also been used traditionally for cooking pots, pizza stones and other cookware, fireplaces and wood-burning stoves, and even tobacco pipes.
Fbf outdoors, my soap stone pipe bowl holds the green leaf stuff. Would that qualify? 🥴
Thanks for the facts!
You need more likes. Thank you for the geology fellow introvert bait-making watcher.
@@BurneezyTooEasy yoir welcome and im not just a watcher Im also a fellow bait maker as well.
I never knew soap stone came that soft. When I was a kid in the 40's kitchen sinks were made out of soap stone. Shop sinks were made out of soap stone also. I never tried but I know it was too hard to carve with a knife. I'll have to look that up.
Making a lure from stone . You have truly mastered your craft . You are now a Master Bait Maker.
The reason behind this lure giving you such a workout is most rocks having a very high relative weight even underwater, like metals (lead and tungsten for example), making it have much more resistance under water. You can basically go by "the faster it sinks, the harder it's going to be to reel in."
Top marling bait lines.
“One day”
“Bj ponds”
“Chip, get out of the strawberries”
“Pike!”
“Be free”
“It’s o-fish-ial”
“Superglue and baking soda”
“Work sharp”
I prolly missed a lot of other lines😂
That was my chair I didn't fart
It's "super glue baking sod" now lol
And you forgot "Bob saget" 👍
“That was my chair, I didn’t fart” is another very common one 😂
It’s official bass like blank
„Do i fly fish? No im not gay”
This is a first “I have a rock” sounds like Patrick Star to me. Are you gonna use that to shower Mr. Baits.
“ Thanks I know, he’s got nerves of steel”
Lol
Nah.. reminds me more of Charlie Brown

Nathan Marlin
Had my grandpa help me make some pretty cool school projects using soap stone (inefficient axes, model sized huts and all sorts of wacky stuff) always imagined it being like a piece of soap lol. So satisfying to watch someone working this amazing material!
So you’ve done a block of wood, and a ball of wood, how about using a random rock on the river bank and fishing with it?
If you think that’s crazy just wait till he makes a lure out of dirt.
"I'm pretty much a mason now" I'm dead lol
Sorry for your loss 😉
I'd hire him
Please make a shirt that says, "that was my chair, I didnt fart"
Tried to give this 2 thumbs up!
Seriously I need this shirt.
Marlin: “this might not work, don’t get ur hopes up” five seconds later “it works get ur hopes up”
Me: YAAAAAAAAY
The more I watch your videos the less picky fish seem to be about what they'll try to eat.
Great video, as always!
that lure RoCkS
I laughed on the inside
._d_a_n_g__y_o_u_.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha.
Dam..that was good.
I think that fun facts on soapstone would've been appropriate. Nevertheless, two vids in one weeks! Frikken yeah!
Thank you for being you man. Much appreciated
You deserve to be well known, i was very engaged throughout this video, i love your funny personality:) got this in my recommended and i see why, take ad revenue, you deserve it :)
When the master baiter himself makes a knew bait u stop whatever you are doing to watch
o h n o
Agreed
"master baiter" i agree. he has made some pretty master baits
Now that you say every noise isn't a fart, now we'll assume every noise IS a fart until you say otherwise. Also, did you get my Chip bait?
Just got to the end of the video. You DID get my Chip bait, but not the note! Well, 'twas I who sent it, as a thank you for teaching me baitmaking. I'd watched you for a while, but when quarantine hit I decided to try too. Thanks to watching you do it dozens of times, I found I already knew a bunch of the basics. You should know the Chip bait doesn't actually swim great. You should probably move the line tie. It was really fun to make though!
@@davidmattingly1574 you have a great skill to make baits
I have been in Thailand and have been following your channel for a while. I learned how and I raised you to be my teacher.
i can't decide what's more graceful... the action on that rock bait, or that jog down the dock
Hey. I live in straya, so when I get a notification from America, I need to click it fast. But this is earlier than usual .
"It's just a stupid lure!"
"It's not just a lure... It's a rock!"
I got that reference. “The pioneers would ride these babies for miles!!”
The way it carves, seems like it’d make an amazing material to carve a master for silicone molds.
Awwwwww!!! I wish my son was still that little. They grow up so fast. Hope you enjoy every minute. Mines 15 now and I gotta drag him off Xbox to go fishing with me. Great video, awesome channel. You're an amazing artist.
Think you've officially hit rock bottom.
Dum Dum psh
Me: Can’t catch a fish to save my life.
Marling Baits: Catches one on a rock.
The ending of your videos are so great.
Makes me chuckle & smirk all the time.
Love all your videos.
One day I hope to fish with you
Your passion is unmatched the way you said “isn’t this fun, experimenting” 10:58 is just like me when I’m mountain biking
All I wanted to hear was "It's official, bass like rocks"
Not watched TIL the end but the fact making a lure out of stone sounds SO cool / interesting il LOVE your vids keep going 👍👍👍👍
You never stop amazing me. Locking picking lawyer gets old because he just opens locks. You’re always changing it up
Dude! I got so excited when I saw this new video when you just posted one yesterday.
I hope you post more frequently. Love your videos.
Legend has it that if you say "ONE DAY!!!!" 3 times into a mirror marling baits shows up and makes you into a lure...
"I'm pretty much a mason now!"
100% what I would have said, and my wife would have just rolled her eyes at me.
You, sir, have a beautiful family. You are a very lucky man.
Man.. you are awesome! Thx for being you Nate.
One day I'm going to find that pike spot. I'm going to grab some goggles. And I'm gonna become rich.
Make a soft plastic with I lip.
I would like to see how this happens 😂
Can we take a second to appreciate the fact that Marling Baits, the king of lure making himself, is able to make a crank bait while having the hassle of recording very much everything he does all in one day. And also manages to keep his commentary detailed and entertaining enough for me not to fall asleep. What a legend.👍
May i just start by saying, ive been watching for the longest time, and the development youve made as a RUclipsr has evolved so much, you make something like bait making such an interesting topic to watch. Your great sir please keep it up
Yes!! the Rock bottom bait!! Or soap stone to wash out them dirty mouths of the fish!!
When you see him pull up with the mask you know it gonna be a serious lure
That is one of the coolest lures I've ever seen. Love the shape. So freaking unique!
Polarized lens to help show the action. Also your ability never ceases to amaze me. Artist meets engineer.
If bait making was metal, this would be as metal as it gets...
Internet Rambler most likely he would make a blade bait
Eh, it's soft rock at most
Ryan Abbott totally underrated comment right there
Lol hahahaha 😂🤣 😂🤣
(In the voice of Nathan Explosion)
Bait making IS METAL!!!!! That's not metal, because rocks is not metal, metal is metal!!!!
Not gonna lie but when he pulled out the fancy carving knife I just thought “of all times to not use the box cutter because of the replacement blades”
What a great talent you have. I live around many ponds and lakes. May have found my new hobby.
Men you have inspired me to start a lure business here in east Europe, Romania. Keep up the good work.
So I've been polishing rock with a rock tumbler and I recently bought a dremel that can cut stone and I was thinking about making a rock lure... crazy
When will you start selling fishing lures
Ive never seen this channel before but i have to say you are one of the most chilled out youtubers ive seen
Great Job. I always love watching your videos and have seen them all
"not gonna explain anything....here I am explaining"
MarlingBaits
Him: "its official. bass like rocks"
my brain: "rock bass"
And so... The rock bass bit the rock lure shaped after the rock bass itself because the rock bass has enough audacity to attack a rock
This was incredibly satisfying and nerve racking at the same time!
Just wanted to say you're the reason i started making my own youtube videos!
Makes me wonder when people skip rocks.. how many bass end up swallowing them💀
though the same thing. he took it as it hit the water, seems like no time to see any action or see what it was, just an instinctive instant strike.
Right
When your girlfriend breaks up with you just lay down watch marlin baits and cry
Her heart is prolly made of stone, you should try carving it into a bait.
Kohta to bad it wouldn’t catch any
Ha had a good laugh at that pun
That stone carves beautifully and what a master Mason you've become!
You are the bob Ross of lure making
"will bass eat a rock"
“I have never clear coated a rock.”🤔
"I have a rock" probably the best intro you could have used to this video, and it had me dying from laughter! Please never change😂
Who knew that masonry drill bits were going to be parts of a bait makers tool kit, love this video!
So you never answered the question.
What’s your favorite bate you’ve made and fish the most?
You are the best keep making baits. Love your channel.
Love the vids been watching for five years you still got me interested
This is the first fish I have ever seen him catch and I have been watching for a while
2 Marling baits videos in 2 days
Well hotdamn its my lucky day.
2 videos in a week! Yes!!! Thank you
I loved the ending! I also just finished a lure (lipless crankbait w/ a spinner no weight). I made it watching your last video where you were wondering if someone was making a bait with you :). I hope moving has gone well!
You are crazy good man...a bass on a rock!
I’ve carved soap stone many times but never thought about a lure lol I’ve made cups silverware cooking pans it makes great knife handles!
Adorable family.
No it's so beautiful!!
Totally amazing.
so glad one days are back!
I can’t believe it only took 2 hours to make that? Amazing! That is one awesome looking bait! Very cool. Thanks for the video!
The Ojibwe craftsman and arteest are smiling down upon your path to Jesse's pond from the happy fishing flowages above🐾
Rasps and files make for easy shaping of soapstone. But you do you. Love your baits.
That was a pretty sweet lure build! Love it!
Nate, I have a tip for you. If you get snagged, you can attach a 2 liter (half gallon?) soda bottle onto your line and float it over the spot where it snagged. It allows you to yank it upwards and unsnag it.
The first day I saw your videos are really like that keep it up and your Lewers look great almost every video
My dream morning would be waking up to notifications of you making a lure for NDYakAngler followed by a notification of him using the lure, then a notification that Awesome Restorations found the lure and restored it
You’re the Bob Ross of lure making!
Love the consistency. Great way to take some time and enjoy good content. 🤙
I really enjoyed this.
"Bass like rocks..." Definitely... Great statement 😅🤙
It’s official!!! Bass like rock. Lol. Love it
Incredible!
I dig your abu garcia, I'm rocking the same and loving it.
I was so looking forward to this video. I watch all of your videos but I forget to like them. I didnt forget for this video
Awesome.....love it
it’s offishal- bass like rocks!
Such an awesome video idea man. 20 seconds in. I’m excited.
