    Hello again. You just said you love these 5 digital products and I do as well. There are so many different possibilities to print and sell. Amazing, how much time one can save when there are pics we can use, - perhaps with tiny modifications. Your videos are out of this world! By now I have watched many, many of your videos and learnt a lot. I am so grateful for all this advice.

      Yes you bet, there's a program called Affinity Design that is like Adobe (and you don't need a subscription, it's a one-time purchase). I use Affinity Photo (similar to Photoshop) and it works great.

    I've been with them for 10 years. A month ago a woman bought a Welsh dresser but asked if I could hang onto it for a while as she was having building work done. I agreed. A week and a half later, she asked if it could be delivered that Friday, so I organised the delivery. The next day she asked if she could cancel the order as she'd seen the "perfect" thing for her space, so I gave her a full refund reluctantly, as this woman had wasted a lot of my time. When I came to do my tax accounts yesterday, I saw that Etsy paid me £518.49, (it cost £550.00 with delivery) after the sale, but my refund was £489.11. They therefore ripped me off for £60.00 for a sale I never made! When I tried to contact Etsy "support", they just sent me a load of links that led to places that didn't explain anything. I want to leave, but they know it's a big job. I'll look into the platform you're mentioning.

    • @craftystax
      @craftystax  2 года назад +1

      Yes I personally prefer to have a store that sells either digital downloads or physical print-on-demand products (but not both). It tends to confuse the customers. It's possible to make it work but I think it's better to just have two different shops.

    What do you mean cleanup the images after you find the patent images? Thanks for sharing

    • @craftystax
      @craftystax  2 года назад +5

      The images on Google (Google Patents) are physical scans of paper. So sometimes the picture of the patent has imperfections on it (like shadows, dust, folds, etc.) So I would recommend running the patent picture through Inkscape to make a clean vector (and removing any of the imperfections).

    Hello, I have a few question. Like you showed me, is there any other store which sells the art work of other famous artists? Because there are stores which sells them. Also, selling public domain symboled art works is legal or illegal? Like Jean Bernard and Adolphe Millot, there are tons of examples. I want to sell some of the art works which has public domain symbol

    • @craftystax

    • @craftystax
      @craftystax  Год назад

      Yes when you go to make your listing on Etsy, you have the choice to list a physical product or a digital product. help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/115015628347-How-to-Add-Files-to-a-Digital-Listing?segment=selling. So basically you stick all your files in a zip folder and then upload then to Etsy. I don't have a video specifically for this but I appreciate this suggestion, let me see what I can do!

  • @A_Planner_and_a_Dreamer

    Really came through with this one, Zen. Question: are you referring to the original vector files when selling digital files on Etsy? Or you mean a high resolution copy of the file?

    • @craftystax
      @craftystax  2 года назад +3

      That's a good question and you could sell either one (or both). I typically sell SVG files (the vector) and then also produce high-resolution PNG, DXF, EPS, JPG & PDF files. So those 6 formats should cover everyone and then you sell that bundle (one design, 6 formats) and it's just a passive income sale from that point on (there's no shipping, it's just money in).

    • @craftystax

      There are a lots of different print on demand platforms-I love Etsy although I don't personally sell on it right now. I do however have a couple of partnerships where "we" are selling on Etsy (through their account). I don't get too heavily involved in any one POD platform because any of them could suspend or close an account at any time.

    • @craftystax
      @craftystax  2 года назад

      Yes great question - generally speaking, there are sites like Wikimedia and Rawpixel (the public domain section) that say if they are public domain right on the site (near the picture). Open Access at the Met has a bunch of public domain stuff too. Hopefully this vid helps too: ruclips.net/video/2cyNC1OZbkE/видео.html

    I love the patent idea and even though you said that most patents are in the public domain but you'd stay away from Lego, etc., how can you check which ones are in the actual public domain so you don't have Harley or Mr. Lego knocking on your door? Thanks again for another amazing video, as always!!! :)

    • @jennhall522
      @jennhall522 2 года назад +2

      I am also wondering that. The patent site for the US says to contact them before using any images, so that tells me they're not public domain...

    • @jennhall522
      @jennhall522 2 года назад +2

      Actually check this out:
      Patent information
      Patents are published as part of the terms of granting the patent to the inventor. Subject to limited exceptions reflected in 37 CFR 1.71(d) & (e) and 1.84(s), the text and drawings of a patent are typically not subject to copyright restrictions. The inventors' rights to exclude others from making, using, offering for sale, or selling the invention throughout the United States or importing the invention into the United States for a limited time is not compromised by the publication of the description of the invention. In other words, the fact that a patent's description may have been published without copyright restrictions does not give you permission to manufacture or use the invention without permission from the inventor during the active life of the patent. See MPEP § 600 - 608.01(v) regarding the right to include a copyright or mask work notice in patents.

    • @craftystax
      @craftystax  2 года назад +2

      Yes trademark and copyright are two different things. So the patent (as is) is not subject to copyright. But creating a piece of art FROM a patent changes the medium (from published patent to artwork). Generally I steer away from name brands (like Harley and Lego) and just focus on general inventions like pool table, hockey stick, laundry machine, etc. P.S. Thank you for the feedback, love the comments!
