You are correct except for one part. They still have to get it registered as if it is road taxed to get the free tax. You can’t just assume it is taxed if it is exempt, you still have to through all the same motions as anyone else does, except paying for it at the end. There has been quite a few cases of people being prosecuted for failing to ‘tax’ their vehicle even though they are exempt from it.
