Stil as fresh and witty as the day it was recorded. Ken was one of my inspirations to become a Radio Announcer and Voice Over Actor. The man was pure genius.
Nordine had such an incredibly creative imagination. Word Jazz is one of my all-time favorites. Makes you feel like you're at some smokey back alley Greenwich Village Beatnik Coffee House at night sipping a little espresso laced with brandy in the late 1950s, listening to smooth progressive jazz with the lights down low and flickering candles on the tables. You look around at all the cool cats that are wearing black turtleneck shirts and dark sunglasses. Then someone steps up to the mic and starts talking or recites some free-style poetry. You feel the mood. It's all so far in that it's far out. It's like crazy, man, crazy.
What a great clip!! No idea this existed. I'm a big Ken Nordine fan. Still trying to find the episode of his radio show where he goes back to his home town and they call him onstage at the 4H fair. He gets on the stage and this country 4H band really starts swinging. Being from the midwest tickled me to no end. Great post I 'm sharing this for sure.
Here we go ... mate priceless, bloody priceless ... there’s my annual intake of positive endorphins right there! 2020 he passed, wasn’t it? Well Ken RIP .. found Word Jazz and Son Of Word Jazz/old London label records here in Sydney & loving them. I think Ken Nordine was to NPR what the Goons were to “Aunty” in the UK & Radio National in Australia .. u’d so look 4ward 2 that radio segment. Saturday midday; The Goons followed by Robin Williams’s Science Show on Radio National .. the magic of radio🤓
Gotta love Ms. Barrie Chase. I watched this, knew that I recognized that dour expression: She played Sylvester’s girlfriend in “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” opposite Dick Shawn. She was only in the film for a few minutes but she was hilarious!
Wonderful, just wonderful. Never seen this one before. Wow, pure treasure to watch.
I've watched this so many times cause i enjoy it so much.
So different from the days with Ginger, but marvelous dancing, acting. Showcasing new talent.
This pairing of Ken Nordine and Fred Astaire-Barrie Chase is pure genius! They couldn't have choreographed "My Baby" any better!

She’s beautiful!
Mutual, I'm sure!
Love the expressions
I miss Mr. Fred Astaire so much, RIP Mr. Fred Astaire🙏😭
Wonderful. I heard this for first time about 45 years ago. Great to hear it again. Barrie Chase is really great.
R.I.P. Ken Nordine.

With everyone surreptitiously stoned on demon weed.
Lay it on me, daddy-o
@@steveknows62 You had to be very cool and stealthy about where and how you took your tokes!

very, very, very
Fred's "old" dancing is endlessly entertaining and Barrie does all the heavy lifting, except when he's actually lifting her.
Epic. I couldn't love this more.
OMG That's sooooo good and funny!! Thank you Rich Bowen!
Memories of WI public radio growing up. Thanks for posting
Pete. Thank you
In my humble opinion, one of Ken's best...
Absolutely that best, smooth cool
That's how cool things used to be.
That bow tie is one of Fred's very rare fashion faux pas.
Ken was the best
Been trying to see this for years, thanks for sharing!

Her sounds at 2:18 I heard in Lemon Jelly KY initially - did NOT expect to find that here!
I had never heard of that until I shared this on reddit. I'm glad to have been clued in!
I'll have what she's having.
Fred Astaire.
@@aitch3 XD
Fred [b.1899] was thirty-four years older than Barrie [b.1933]
And she's still alive! She's 85, and I bet her grandkids have heard all her stories about Mr. Astaire multiple times.

Fantastic. Wonder who the sax player is ... sounds like Art Pepper
I was also curious and found the album "My Baby" is from features The Fred Katz Group who credit Paul Horn on Flute, Saxophone and Clarinet.
@@projektor4 Thanks for that. Paul Horn -- another great.
@@projektor4 I just recently found this album on vinyl last year, after years of searching. Not that relevant, but I wanted to swag a bit!
@@richbowen5662 I just got this on 45 today, it references the TV spectacular.
'Another Evening' was 1959, not 1958. TX1 11/4.
You're better than that. You know it.
Weird...
why those men are old like grandpa at that time
