Hands down the most amazing voice I've ever heard. I was a youngster when those Levi's commercials aired, and I knew that voice was the kind of voice God would use if he talked to us verbally.
Ken Nordine! Wow. I had no idea Word Jazz (esp. Museum) was on RUclips. Wonderful, imaginative, thought-provoking work. I just shared the link to Word Jazz Museum with the Petaluma Radio Players, a troupe I founded three years ago. We do mysteries and comedies, and the actors will love listening to Ken Nordine. My parents used to write The Shadow when I was a kid in New York in the 1940s, and my dad wrote a murder mystery for TV with Rod Serling in the 1950s. What times those were!
I listened to Ken Nordine's interview with Bob Edwards on NPR. I remember him from his work with Jerry Garcia, that voice. I never knew what a talented grounded entertainer he is. Thanks for uploading. What a great guy.
One of my heroes. I met Mister Nordine at a festival in San Rafael, California with DJ and political commentator Travis T. Hipp. 1969? I was impressed by his decision to make every word as important as every other word.
My teenage brother brought Word Jazz and Son of Word Jazz albums home when I was 5 years old. I was mesmerized then. Gave me the coolest and sometimes most terrifying dreams. Been a fan for the past 53 years.
I remember those Levies commercials well, during my teen years back in the 1970's. my dad had his album "word jazz" , and he would put it on once in a while. Ken Had such a marvelous and distinctive voice! 😀
Wow, just wow! I've been a fan of Ken's Word Jazz since I stumbled upon it in Vinyl Bin at my local St Vincent De Paul when I was a teenager just wanting to break into radio. Which led to a long career behind the mic and occasionally getting to play the masters work on air in my Talk Back Radio Show on 4BC Brisbane late at night when Ken's mellifluous voice just wafted across the room.
My brother produced audio/visual presentations in Florida back in the late 70s. He wrote a 5-7 minute script for Yashica Cameras and contracted Ken Nordine to do the read. It was really pretty small potatoes, but Ken gave that read every bit the care he would have for a major production. My brother said he was about the most modest, polite professional voice he'd ever worked with.
Same here when my local public radio station broadcast Now Nordine on Sunday nights (?) In the mid '80's ... I even have a few cassettes of recordings off the radio!
I have always loved Word-Jazz... deep thought provoking stuff and I am so happy to find this video. Thumbs UP all the way and I wish Ken the very best. I had NO IDEA that he was the voice for all of those commercials! I was just locked into word-jazz, but it makes perfect sense. What a great Commercial Art tie in. Thank you!
My brother and I were introduced to Word Jazz and Son of Word Jazz in our house (on vinyl, of course) at the ages of 7 and 6 respectively. Our father was a great lover of jazz music and the spoken word, and we feel very lucky to have been introduced to this artist so early in our lives. I'm sure it shaped the literary and musical tastes we have today.
Oh my, how glad am I that you are still alive. How I remember you and once was your soul. I think in your frame and feel of everything you say and do. I love of all your work and that states my loyalty to you. I don't think, yet I know how this, the world in need of you so. You have all in my soul to believe we might still have a chance in life to make living a go again. I have been around since the beginning of time. Glad to have met a spiritual soul again. I will continue elaboration to the world on you and your channel. Yes your visual work is the same as your complete statue. This is all of proof nothing dies all it needs is a body again. Into all the words you speak, you give this, the world a notorious tweet. I'm as old as time and use to be in your infinite time. I'm a spirit that lives eternal life. You are the meaning of art. You have of so many dimensions and that of a genius mind. Your eyes that touch and feel. The meaning of your intensions has already touched souls. Ken Nordine: you know of only what the universe knows. You are like that of the "mystery, of the beautiful black hole. There is a way out only the secret is untold. I found you again, through the word of mouth of a wonderful friend and never will I lose you again. Help this, the world to live again as of only you know. That is of what is missing, the intentions of the soul your words of art told.
It’s now 8th Dec, 2018; r u still with us Ken ... ermmm, r we still with u, friend. Am seeking out ur Word Jazz vinyl PLs😎. I’d been wondering but finally March 2019 I find he has finally slipped into the jibble-jabble of his namesake poem Down The Drain, 16th Feb, 2019. I hope ur continuing to create There ... and what a cast u have to choose from Ken. Rest In Peace, friend.
Trying to figure out who made the vocals for the song thrills, by cake. People say it's this guy, but I don't think it sounds like him. Can someone help me find the origin vocals?
Someone put down your glasses. (As though that has anything to do with the subject of this video.) Actually, I think they look great on you! I compliment your good taste and good looks! I wish I could find a pair of glasses that looked that good on me.
Good to see after all these years people are still watching this and keeping the art going.
Makes me burst into tears watching this video. Ken, you are missed greatly.
He was very blessed to be born with such a resonant vocal timbre.
No one person more inspired me to pursue a career in media production than Ken Nordine. God Bless him.
Hands down the most amazing voice I've ever heard. I was a youngster when those Levi's commercials aired, and I knew that voice was the kind of voice God would use if he talked to us verbally.
HA! Well, the man and Mr Richard Burton, with Mr Orson Welles in reserve.
RIP to a genius.
This brings back so many memories.

Us too! As a young child in the early 1960s, it really was both mesmerizing and a little scary, but we loved it!
I remember those Levies commercials well, during my teen years back in the 1970's.

1967? That is so amazing! I bet those were good times.
RIP Mr. Nordine

I was nine years old the very first time I did listen to my great cousin record with the " red baby " !!!
Saw him live at the Festival Hall in London in the 80s. Great guy.

Thankful for a lifetime of Ken's unbounded creativity. RIP
Thank you for the years of imagination Mr. Nordine!
Love the Devout Catalyst and Upper Limbo ( with Tom Waits is incredible )
and saw Ken Nordine at the Rosemont Horizon with the Dead
Amazing Man
I grew up loving his voice on commercials in the 70's and it wasn't until late in the 80's I learned of his Word jazz. Fantastic voice artist!
Same here when my local public radio station broadcast Now Nordine on Sunday nights (?) In the mid '80's ... I even have a few cassettes of recordings off the radio!
Loved his voice and Word Jazz. Worked with him as an announcer for the emmy's one year.
The voice of Bally Centaur just keeps on going!
Rest in Peace friend.
PLEASE PUT MORE OF HIS WORKS ON YOU TUBE !!!

He could probably do an interesting poem on TIE's ;)
EBULLLLLLLLLIENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ilove listening to word jazz It is relaxing.
The Greatest!
Such a wonderful, unique artist was Ken Nordine. I listened to him via WKSU FM throughout the 1970's and 80's. May he be blest by the Grace of God.
I must have listened to The Best of Word Jazz a thousand times. Cheers to you Ken!
R.I.P., Mr. Nordine. And thanks.
Just hearing Ken's voice is a stress reliever. Doesn't matter how mundane the subject is.
Talented, unique art he made :)
All I can do is laugh and cry at the same time. This guy has been Therapy to me. Carry O Sarge!!!
Fabulous doing the video for the Jackson’s , Can you feel it
RIP, Ken - gone at 98!

"Faces in the Jazzamatazz" is brilliant and wrenching. Probably one of his best pieces.
Geez I had no idea. I lived in Berkeley in the 70's &80's and thought Word Jazz was some local guy over at KPFK improvising.
Love that classic 'Whirlwind' guitar cable with the white shield on the plugs...used to have a few of those
Sad news...Ken Nordine has passed away...(April 13, 1920 - February 16, 2019)
OMG. He died the same day my dad did. My dad was a jazz musician and an artist.
This video is a treasure. I heard they were going to tear down his house in Edgewater. They should have made it into a museum.

Mad Love!!!!!!
Right around the corner
Wow, could many popular artists of today use a lesson in elocution from this man !

Hero!
the best
Wonderful interview, thanks!
I have to disagree with the use of the word "infamous" though. Doesn't make any sense.
I've been enjoying Ken's work since 1961, am wondering when he passed.
Thank you, Elizabeth. That was a good read for an old fan.

Apparently, the algos are deleting comments.
Again.
Without the other half of the conversation, I feel cheated.
Ken, you're by far the koolest kat to ever so subtly kick the establishment kooks in the krotch...
Wow...
A weird and awsome guy! Agreed on his voice hahaha
If Ken Nordine recorded for GPS, I'd totally buy a device. And I don't own a car!
❤
This is the first time I see his face
Not bad....not bad at all!!!!! :D :D :D
Just curious could Ken receive a WBEZ signal up in Highland Park? Is there streamable archives of his shows circa late 80s early 90s?
7:16 Chuck away your anti depressant drugs and listen to the man ;)
I'm sorry I can't continue watching this. I'm too upset
Too short, too brief. What a mind!
Is his "Concert in the Sky" online anywhere?
Trying to figure out who made the vocals for the song thrills, by cake. People say it's this guy, but I don't think it sounds like him. Can someone help me find the origin vocals?
this guy's glasses are ridiculous but I really love Ken Nordine.
Hey Ken, what time is it?
Dacron Polyester.....
Someone put down your glasses. (As though that has anything to do with the subject of this video.) Actually, I think they look great on you! I compliment your good taste and good looks! I wish I could find a pair of glasses that looked that good on me.
Is it just me or does Ken Nordine and Brice Armstrong sound a lot alike?
Apparently not everyone succumbs to old-man-voice with shriveled vocal chords.
you said it!
He had it forever!
Maintain your instrument:
* Stay hydrated
* Avoid noise louder than a conversation
* Avoid shouting.
Ken Nordine's WHITE?!?!?
Blackest sounding white guy ever!!!
His show is pure crap.
Infamous?
