Fred said that during their last telecast, they had to arrange certain movements so Barrie was shielding Fred, who could no longer complete all the dance movements....that's when he knew it was time to quit. He was modest and a gentleman, at all times....Gene Kelley's super respect for him embarrassed Fred...on What's My Line a blindfolded panelist, trying to figure out the mystery guest's identity, felt she was closing in. She was thrown off when she asked him 'Do you consider yourself a singer?' Astaire replied, "No." Afterwards, she told him she thought he was a wonderful singer. He gracefully (what else?) disagreed....

Wow, this is amazing and great to see Barrie is still active. But arrg way too short interview. Take a look at Barrie's credits, she was in ***all*** the great musicals. And Barrie also got training from Jack Cole. If you can get through his regiment you can go anywhere in dancing from what she said in a presentation few years ago in Palm Springs.
She also played the belly dancer who appears as hallucination in the movie "Flight of the Phoenix." Just a few minutes Barrie did the dance on hot desert sand which had to first be cooled with water to avoid burning her feet.

Barrie Chase was the smoothest partner Astaire had next to his sister, Adele, with only ballet experience and a cute figure.. She had a bit part in some '50s and 60's movies like "Cape Fear," with Gregory Peck and the menacing Robert Mitchum, with some unknowns Martin Balsam, Telly Savalas. Barrie appeared in NBC specials with Astaire from '57-'68. You must see them to see how she moves without looking at her feet, and she makes Astaire look years younger. Even though the dances with Fred in that series were of shorter duration, the timing and sync were incredible to behold.

I must say that they definitely cut Barrie off in this interview right in the middle of a fine speech about the term "class."
The cut-off was awkward and rude. Probably the Director's fault. 👎

Never say never because Astaire did indeed dance again and on a very large stage:

I'd love to see Barrie interviewed by Graham Norton but it ain't likely to happen.

What a jolt of an ending ! Thanks !! Bye bye !
They could have given HER a little credit ! She was arguably up there with Ginger as a great dance partner , and they totally paid her no tribute whatsoever . If it’s worth anything at all , I found myself watching Barrie far more than Fred during most of their numbers !

Although Barrie is still very fit, beautiful, and with fantastic legs, they are much too old to have them exposed up to her hips. The skin and muscles of legs that old cannot avoid wrinkling seen with that skimpy dress.

The 30+ age gap between Fred and Barrie was quite apparent in the film clip. Distracts from it being a romantic dance.... I notice that the hosts had to announce that the clip was provided by Mrs. Fred Astaire. When there was a special award given to Ginger Rogers, 'Mrs. Fred Astaire' would not allow them to use any of the clips unless they paid her a hefty sum, which they passed on.

Do those freaky BBC women have to sit there with those inane looking grins all the time?

Boy, they cut her off mid sentence. Not a well oiled machine that show. Should never cut a guest mid sentence they should have has time to be polite.
