The majority of my locomotives are Kato. I own both steam and diesel all DC. They all run smooth and quiet and are dependable. For anyone starting out in the N scale hobby I would recommend a Kato starter set. I purchase all my trains online. Unfortunately there are no local hobby shops. Thanks for your videos!

KATO's quality is the GOAT. Next is Micro Trains, then Athearn then ATLAS, for me

So im looking to find out what a good strong durable N scale steam budget locomotive would be for pulling only a max of about 20 cars. Even 15 with a small grade enough for a bridge. Ive only got a span of about 2' x 10' ill be putting this on, So not a lot of space, but just put 1 bridge for 1 track to go under and over at the bridge. I could be flexible on the brand, but budget and as reliable as possible.
If it is able to only do a simple whistle as well and thats it, that would be great.
    Any recommendations?

I have to agree with you. Older Bachmann of course. That new motor is there worse decision ever. Even worse then the cracked gears. Model power is grate. Life like is good. Kato is A number 1 in my book even if your not on a budget. I would throw in atlas as well for budget just as they are reliable and reasonably priced. But I would say some of the bigger price brands. You get details over reliability. And that doesn’t sit well with me.
